      I am with you, but some if not a majority are overcrowded as it is. We need to have a jail like a animal safari fro the youth. They are monitored by trained staff, and live in tents like the Indians used to live in unless inclement weather is present. They ( if they are old enough) learn chuck wagon cooking. Other wise they help gather sticks, and the produce which is grown on the property by hand. On weekends if they behave they get cafeteria privileges. The facility would also teach life skills like wood working, gardening, painting and possibly horses back riding and rodeo.

    I made it 38 years in middle school. I watched it get scarier as the years went by. I only had two problems with students. One took a swing at me, luckily I got out of the way, because he was bigger than me. The other, a student put a large sharp screw under my tire. I had a blow out on the freeway. The only way I found to survive was to be strict about students following the routines of my class period and being super over-prepared for each day. I didn’t give the students time to get out of control. I have had family members and people I have met who were interested in teaching. For the last ten years, I tried my best to dissuade them all. The only thing that makes it worth it are grateful students and parents. Those have become few and far between!

    • @huntergman8338
      @huntergman8338 5 лет назад +7

      @jon doe Well, the thing with that is a lot of black families are single mother families. Fathers are quite rare there and that is a problem because fathers teach key lessons that form healthy humans, like self control and long term thinking. And this applies to every race.
      I would argue the real problem is the collection of ideologies, social justice, is driving everyone mad with it's attempts to form a very warped idea of an utopia. In the case of blacks, constantly being told you were slaves in the past will not help one's mind.

A system that anyone can participate in so long as you fulfill certain requirements, like not being dirt poor, being compatible nwith your partner, or having a history of violence among other things. you have to pass a number of tests to be sure you can have children. I don't think having children should be a human right, the stakes are becoming too high at this point. Like owning a car, having children takes responsibility and maintenance.

I was going to quit that afternoon, but a group of students came to talk to me during lunch and said I had lasted longer than other teachers in their class (3 days?!) and please stick with them - but finding the calmness to keep working with this student was very difficult. What is really sad is once these problem students leave high school, they have a difficult time getting along in their early adult years. If they go to college, they will find that the behavior that they got away with in high school is not tolerated on a college campus. In the work force, termination papers are handed to recalcitrant employees.
    I’m a retired US Army Sergeant First Class that had to process early uncharacterized discharges of young soldiers that couldn’t even make it out of basic training because of attitude and behavioral problems. Many of these problem students end up having criminal records and spend the rest of their lives in unstable circumstances.
    I used to substitute teach and would hear teachers and administrators remark about problem students “he’ll be gone this year, good riddance, he’ll be someone else’s problem.”

He calmly took the boy by the collar and marched him to the principal's office, and that was it, he was never seen at the school again. But things were different then. First off, the gym teacher was a WWII veteran, and second, it was easier to expel students. There was a time when male teacher in the school was a veteran of WWII or the Korean War. However, men bring stability, discipline, and physical strength that just comes natural to us. The older children get (especially boys), the more important it is to have real men leading. It came into existence because of the lack of parenting - yes, from "alpa-men", too - it came into existence because teachers were taken away their human rights - and kids know that - it came into existence because parents don't respect teachers for what they are which is studied professionals for education - and kids bring this parental mindset of non-respect into school, and it came into existence because teachers are lone fighters with nobody backing them up. You miss alpha-males at school? Obviously you consider yourself as such. Well, go on forward then! Oh, payment is bad? Well, there is yet another reason for this situation: if a teacher has to work three jobs to pay his or her bills not many nerves are left for your oh so precious kids!

    REALITY CHECK: The schools have been dumbed down to the point where the only credential that should be required to “teach” is a two year early childhood coordinators associates degree. Any academic lectures the kids are forced to listen to should be watched online delivered by noted experts in that field, and not the classroom teachers, who after all, are no longer allowed to generate their own material anyway. And coincidentally, teacher pay as it currently stands only warrants demanding a two year degree. But more to the point, with universal social promotion half of the kids are too dumb for high school anyway, would’ve been enrolled in shop classes back in the day or pre 1990s, and hence they’re not going to learn anything anyway, so having a bachelor’s degree now actually makes one overqualified for such a pathetic job as public school teaching has become. And never forget, the average adult in American society only has a sixth grade reading level. I’ve had tenth grade reading classes where many of the kids read at only grade level three and the smartest kid in the class only had an IQ of 90, which is ten points below average.

    Bulletproof glass…….it’s the only way. Sad but true. I had one step behind me and put his arm around my neck. He whispered in my ear, “…..I could snap your neck in a split second, but I like you, so I’ll wait.” It was my babies first birthday. They did nothing. NOTHING. The next week he was back in school. They just put him in another classroom, with a MALE teacher. Administration said I shouldn’t have allowed him to get behind me. All my fault. The week prior we had radios for just such emergencies. But they too them away. I would have been able to push a button and gotten help. I quit. The end.

    Of course, ban one of the tools used, but never address the underlying reasons as to why the attack occurred. Punish all the students that need backpacks and bookbags to carry around the 30+ pounds of books and gear they need from day to day because one in a thousand students might have a knife. Completely ignore the fact that those problem children will merely tuck it into their belt, sock, or any other place that school administrators can't ban and won't look.
    I feel for this teacher and commend her dedication to the students, but stopgap, feel-good fixes like this won't actually change anything, and will only inconvenience and punish students who had nothing to do with it.

      Dulistan Tarigan teachers call parents when there’s a problem with a student. When the parent tears that child’s ass up at home, they go back to school, tell that same teacher and that teacher calls social services. Teachers need to pick a struggle! Period!
      When I was younger, if I acted up in school my mother tore my ass up in school. No social services were involved and not one teacher said a word. I got my act together and moved on. Nowadays teachers are teaching children to call 9-1-1 on their parents. Therefore, parents don’t have any rights to discipline their children anymore. Now you have the mess that is going on nowadays and children are out of control.
      My daughter threw a desk at a teacher. I tore her ass up at home. I bet you she didn’t throw another damn desk at a teacher ever again. She’s an adult now with kids. She’s seeing exactly what I told her!

    This teacher wants to ban backpacks in middle school.
    In contrast to this request middle schools where my kids and grandkids have gone here
    in California have gone the other way. I was an active parent as middle schools in my District have banned lockers thus bringing about a change REQUIRING our kids to carry backpacks in order to have a way to bring pencils and notebooks to class following locker bans and removal. The only exception is that there are still lockers in changing rooms for PE classes. Not just knives but now younger and younger students are bringing guns to schools carrying them in backpacks.

  • @philcrane2426
    @philcrane2426 5 лет назад +3

    It's not the knives, it's not the guns it's the behavior from an environment they live in. What helps is a father & mother, discipline and rules to live by. They don't need cell phones, violent or sexual video games and movies.
    I know because my wife and I raised 3 girls and 1 boy and they're all successful.
    Families have family time, travels and togetherness. To hell with diversity, tolerance and not paying attention.
    Parents should be in charge of their kids....not the government or political agendas.
    It will continue to happen because of teacher unions and teacher quality. These kids are being brought up with no moral understanding and teaching.

    Backpacks ban will not do anything, but put aside the reason children act out. Administrators and parents must support teachers by demonstrating and demanding respect. Education is a privilege not a right.

      My dad was a middle school social studies American history teacher for 34 years and nothing like this happened in the school he worked at but they had other things: two female students fighting and he put one in a headlock to break it up, the principal asked him once to witness some paddling/corporal punishment and a English teacher threw a stapler at a student like a baseball pitcher throwing a fastball. Oh there was a female student bulling another female student. He took the female bulling student and pushed her into the wall while she was still in her desk. There were good things though, although he told all of his students "YOU DON'T WORK YOU DON'T PASS" he made things fun sometimes like standing up on his desk and when they were studying world war 2 he dressed up as the red Baron and put on a Snoopy red Baron record. He put a mop on his head being Thomas Jefferson when studying the Constitution.

    I sat here thinking about this and the experiences I had teaching. I taught High School Auto Shop. There were some great kids. I had many that I am proud of. But the few that were problems were a danger too teachers and students.
    Two of the biggest problems are parents and the School board. Parental example- A student got in a fight at school got beat up that afternoon His parents showed up with baseball bats and a gun in the car looking for the kid he got in a fight with. Fortunately the police were close by. The school board will often overturn or block disciplinary action or make it so tuff to expel a student that has been a danger to everyone at the school. In 26 years I had shots fired into my classroom was told if I filed a complaint or identified the person that came on campus and beat up a student (this person was an adult) the gang would put a hit out on me. I was never called by the police to identify him. I think they knew already. Had a boy try to beat up a girl because she wouldn’t go out with him. I came in just in time to stop him. This was not an inner city school it was a about 100 miles from Los Angeles in a small city and rural community. There were many more incidents but I think you get the Idea.
