    I met Funky Ned when I was a teenager just cutting my teeth on learning how to play bass. My music teacher Mr. Wright took me to H.D Woodson to play in their band. They were doing the Wiz. I was playing in the music room thinking I was doing something. I was holding my own till Ned came in. He checked me out for a bit then asked to play my bass. I handed him my Fender Jazz and he ran circles around me. Very nice guy and offered me some tips. One of the best bass lessons I ever got. He is just amazing. Very under rated.

    Great interview from a legend in not only Go-Go but in the music industry. One of my first mentors, however brief it was and aside from the fact we bumped heads because I was young and thought I knew everything. He taught me and my Huckabucks brothers so much. Love you life Funky Ned.

    • @Gogoloops
      @Gogoloops 2 года назад

      @Yahawashi_Is_The_Messiah he never said that directly but I think it was definitely implied because I don’t remember us ever speaking about reading music as a drummer

    • @Gogoloops
      @Gogoloops 2 года назад +1

      @Yahawashi_Is_The_Messiah one of the main things I remember is do it over until you get it right. No excuses. Good is not going to cut it, make it as close to perfect as possible. The other thing was keep it clean, less is more. I always had a lot of ghost notes on the snare, mostly unintentionally being a new drummer feeling my way. As I remember it really irritated him lol. As I grew older I understood more what he meant. I still have the ghost notes there but they are more refined and played with purpose.

      Oh yes! Remember The Huckabucks Band very well. Still have your bands two studio albums to this day.😁💯🎵❤️ Heard Funky Ned helped get your band started years ago. Remember when y'all came to bowling Green, Va. Town Hall. Right here in my hometown. Loved it!❤️💯🎵🥁😁

    My all time favorite bass player and I've seen and came to know a few not to mention my self,
    But Mr. Funky Ned just does it 4 me bro. I mean his favorite is Verdine White of EWF. And yes he is a perfectionist just like his parents, but Mr. Funky Ned has the spiritual gift not sayn VW dont.. But with the GoGo style Mr. Funky Ned is the 1.
    R&B Verdine White is 1.
    Man I miss his playing and seeing him and Footz, J Boogie, /mick. Blew me away in the 80's man. ya just don't know what I witness back then, 70's 80's time of the life.

    Wow! Aretha Franklin tried to carry Funky Ned and RE over some outfit video stuff.😱 Did not want to give them and autograph. Great he took that experience and made it positive. Great stories he told on starting out in go go music, then playing bass guitar 🎸 for Maxwell and N'Shell Dachello or however you say here name.🤣🤣 She really can play bass guitar too

Floyd at Rev Wrenn's Barbershop in DC in the 80s, he didn't give details, just said Aretha was a trip
