- Robert A. “Bob” Hoover is considered by many to be our greatest living aviator and has influenced generations of pilots with his precision flying and gentlemanly demeanor. Nicknamed “the Pilot’s Pilot” by his peers, Bob is largely unknown outside aviation circles despite his staggering array of accomplishments.
The film, "Flying the Feathered Edge" captures every nuance of Bob’s amazing life story by skillfully interweaving vintage still images, rare historic footage, and exclusive testimonials from other flight legends past and present-bringing this legend’s incredible life and story into the limelight.
Selections from "Flying the Feathered Edge" are presented in this lecture by Kimberly Furst, who directed, produced, and wrote the screenplay. She is joined by Sean Tucker, National Aviation Hall of Fame aerobatic pilot, and Museum curator Dorothy Cochrane.
greatest stick-and-rudder man who ever lived..!! RIP Bob.... you had an amazing life !!
What a Pilot, What a Career he had...RIP Mr. R.A. Hoover.
Bob passed away yesterday......Probably the greatest of pilots....I was fortunate to see him perform many times in the aero commander
Rest in peace Bob. Truly one of the greatest pilots to grace our skies.
No comments? He's a legend for great sakes. The best aviator ever.
Some people coin the phrase one in a million, one in a billion that's not enough for this man he is the one and only. Never the like to be seen again. This man has been a lifelong hero of mine and future generations should remember this man for ever. Not only a unique flying talent but a truly amazing human beings. Rip my friend and soar high In that sky. Never to be forgotten!
His story is an inspiring one. Thanks for putting this together for the rest of us.
Thank you, SO much, for posting this. I am going to very much enjoy watching :0)
The world lost a great man today, may he rest in peace.
I had the pleasure to fly with Bob once in 1988.
Bob suffered from airsickness at first but with persistent training was able to overcome this and became a top notch flyer. A feel for the air was in his blood. Knowing what his craft could do and not do instinctively.
Saw him perform in Tasmania after the U.S. cancelled his licence, could not believe how skilled he was. Had the crowd of thousands stunned. Also a true gentleman. Will never forget the performances he did that day in the T-28 and of course in the Shrike. Brilliant.
When Chuck Yeager says he was the best stick and rudder man ever. I'm thinking he was!
Sean Tucker; you can't be the worlds best display pilot. I have never heard of you!
The guy was a legend...
A complete different breed not in existence any more.
We will love and miss you forever Bob. Hoover is the greatest who has ever lived and ever will live. Young kids....proove Bob wrong....thats what he wants.
RIP Bob, gone but not 4gotten:-(
I have been lucky enough to see a handful of Bob Hoover demonstrations with his shrike and p-51. I wish I could have seen his F-86 demo and others.
