If Subaru offered a hatchback WRX/STI then I would have bought one. Looked at the Type R but it looked to boy racer for my taste. Ended up with a low mileage '05.

LOVE my 2019 STi.... Plan to keep it for a long time but interested to see what they come up with. On a side note, curbed my rim today, hate my life :( Love the video's mate!
I was lucky enough to find a factory original, unmodified 2006 STi with only 25k mileage 5 years ago, and I don’t think I will ever trade it for a new STI 😁
This is definitely the end of an era of a really cool car that's quite a fun analog throwback. Simultaneously, I'm a little irritated at Subaru. The S209 finally brings us another STI that is comparable to or faster than a M2/M3/M4 on a track. Awesome! Then they price it just as high as the M2. I think it would have been neater if they made most of the S209 upgrades across the entire product line of the standard STI and just priced the STI a bit/modestly higher than previous years so the last year of the EJ ended on a high note that more enthusiasts could more realistically afford and access.
Zac Paul, exactly, make the upgrades in 209 standard on all STI's and raise price to let say 45K. Add in forged internals and even make the price 50k, fine I wont be complaining. But 63k for S209 nowhere near worth it and such a limited quantity at that :(
Check this out. I bought my 2011 STI not the hatchback but four door sedan pearl withe for $36700 out the door and kept it stock. Payed it off in about four years and sold it back to Subaru dealer ship for 26k after almost six years of owning the car. The car had about 44k miles and in excellent condition. They really hold their value😁
If you want the old EJ then yes it is the perfect time- LOL. I really hope Subaru still gives the new gen an audible personality that separates it from its competitors. I always thought the EJ was like the Mustang 5.0 note in that it is/was immediately recognizable. Here's to hoping.
Just purchased a new 2020 White Wrx sti limited and Im super happy with this car 💯💯💯. Im also glad I decided to go with a 2020 because now subaru will delay the redesign wrx sti. So i will be able to have this for a couple of years maybe 3, then trade in for the new one 💯💯💯
If I was younger I would wait, but now that I'm older and hoping to be a father next year, I like the idea of knowing what I'll be getting. The next gen could have a new set of reliability issues, could be less safe, have less room, or the engine will be like the FA20 and have ELH's, and lose the rumble. All things that could add a premium to buying a used variant of the current gen. If it turns out to be awesome, I'll just wait a few years, and buy a new one then. If you're patient, I feel like you can't lose buying a 2020.
I'm hoping for a more custom look on the 2021. Maybe wider hips on the rear end, staggered wheel setup, more interior color options. Just overall different. Pls keep the big spoiler. It's the STi's calling card.
Dude, 9 more months we will know about the new baby WRX/STi. I'm holding back to make a car purchase UNTIL I know about the next Gen. But I will bet my last $10 that the next gen will be awesome. For the money this is the BEST car to own.
Love the comment the ej motor has been around forever since b4 dinosaurs roamed the earth! That's the funniest thing I've heard on RUclips car reviews for years! You the man!
There has been a source that has said a new STi will be coming out next year. It will have the 2.4L engine, and produce 400HP, and around 370TQ. If so, I would've waited. I still have my 04 STi that I bought with 10,000 miles on it, 15 years ago. I now only have 84,000 miles on it. I get offers to buy it all the time.
2020 limited sti with short throw shifter in CWP ordered September 7th. Got the VIN last week and delivery date of 11/13. I heard the earthquake and typhoon that hit Japan last week may have halted production.
Raiti's Rides maybe i should hold off on buying my 2020. Hard decision. If they’re doing an FA motor though, might wanna go with the EJ now and have some rumble
I'll wait for the 2021 WRX, which I hope will be a little longer. The only thing that I wished my former 2019 WRX had were rear AC/Heat vents for the cold or hot seasons. The only reason my wife allowed me to get the 2019 is because it got IIHS Top Safety + award compared to other affordable performance cars.
Please read if you can’t decide! It’s been the same under the hood for both cars (minus some very minor tweaks) since 2015. Anyways my point is that you should get the WRX. Why you ask? Well google BHP which is the actual horsepower of a vehicle. Both the wrx and sti have similar bhp and torque. I would say the wrx is more torquey but it just comes down to the driver. So save yourself some money and invest on the wrx and make it faster than the sti. Also buy a subie right now... don’t be a guinea pig next year.
I really want this car.been trying to get behind the wheel of a STI ever since I’ve been able to drive.but I really don’t want to to give up my MK7 GTI for it. The struggle is real 😩
Now is definitely the time to buy but those wheels, don't like them, not a fan of silver/chrome. Would never buy the first model year for new generation. Hood scoop, wing, rumble, turbo, quad exhaust, aftermarket, manual trans, and community. For me it's just about perfect, checks all the boxes. Pretty much my only gripe is lack of forged internals. However I think 2019+ is better in that area. Then again forged internals easily obtained via aftermarket. I can't wait for you to cover the next generation :)
The Japanese STI EJ20 Final Edition Specs will be confirmed around Oct 23, just before the Tokyo Motor Show. So far only cosmetics and images, Recaro seats, gold rims, logos and red lines, nothing on tech specs such as hp and drive train. Will see next week!
Not much more than a regular WRX STI. 308 bhp, regular steering rack 13:1, brembo 6 pot front and 2 pot rear, not much in the way of suspension and handling enhancements, nothing like a Type RA or an S208.
My opinion, if you want a "tuner" car and you want a manual transmission, Then yes, you better get it now, as the new 2021 might not have those. (reason why I got my '19) If you are not a fan of the ej - which many people aren't, then you would be better to wait for the 2021
I'd suggest for someone to wait until the 2021 gets announced and all the info is out, and then from there decide whether it's worth their time, or whether to get a 2020. Also to answer your question, McLarens have hydraulic steering pumps still 🙂
I got the 2020 wrx but on a lease, with every intention to buy it in 3 years - but it gives me an out of I really fall in love with the new design ... I can switch in 3 years ;-)
Once my lease is up, I want to get an STI. I was a guinea pig for the Stinger and I am willing to do it for the 2021 STI. I predict a highly modified 2.4DIT with a 6MT. There’s been talk of hybrid power. If that happens, I hope it’s just a mild hybrid. I am willing to get the sedan, but if they bring back the hatch, I have to go for it.
If you think about it, an FA STi won't have bugs... They been running an FA in the wrx for years. Now compare... EJ205 ->wrx EJ207->STi EJ255-> WRX EJ257-> STi Main difference was really crank, turbo and tmic and tune.
I have 2017 STI trade in for 2019 STI. Never regret it. In my opinion the 2019 STI is more refine than the older generation. That being said I own 2004 STI.
Not really, majority of people are complaining about why Toyota didn’t make their own car instead of bmw making it. Secondly, people wanted a newer engine, not the 2JZ again, people were expecting a 3JZ.
I don’t think Subaru will stray away from the glorious bulletproof 6 speed. It’s perfect the way it is and going to a new trans could lead to issues. As for the ej, I’m thinking possibly a FA25 2.5L?
There are only three things I want on the 2021 WRX STi: (1) functional hood scoop, (2) functional rear wing, and (3) 6-speed manual transmission. If Subaru gets rid of any of them, I'll snatch the 2020. Honestly, those three things are what makes the STI and STI. Sadly, Subaru's current direction is moving away from the niche driver who wants a fun experience and more towards the generic average daily driver. So it's possible that we may lose one of those three things
If they put a DCC in the new STI, subaru will be shooting themselves in the foot. STIs are meant to be manuals. They are one of the only cars keeping the stick alive, and it would be cheaper for them just to put the same STI trans in the new model.
Hatchbacklife!!! Had 3 in a row..Xj Cherokee, Focus St, 04 Wrx wagon. But tbh Im aboutt to maybe buy this identical '20. I'm so undecided..Gr or Va..argh
Bro your arms are getting back to standard. Good job. I'm sure you'll say they have always stayed the same but I been watching you since you had only 800 subs. Your arms did suffer lol. Now they back
Afraid Subaru/Toyota will screw up the 2021. Needs to have a strong manual trans, exhaust rumble, hood scoop, and more low end torque than the 2.0L WRX. A 2.4L 350HP turbo hatch would be great. No confidence Subie will make one. Since the 2020 is no big change from a 2019, I just bought a nicely discounted WRC blue Recaro 2019. I’m 56 and it’s awesome.
Man oh man I wish I had money & the License for this gorgeous World Rally Blue 2020 Subaru WRX STI with those great looking Wheels ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤. Would love to see a 2020 Subaru Impreza 1 day. Thanks Joe. 🙏🏼

Rumors regarding the 2021: Japan to receive the 2.0 at 315hp US to receive 2.4 at 335 (basically a turbo’d version of what’s in the Ascent) There will be no dual clutch. Current rumors are manual only. Possible reveal at Tokyo auto show (concept). Wheel size likely to remain 19’s with 6 pot. But that’s only obvious at this point. More aggressive / flared fenders have been mentioned. I suspect the Camry comments were noticed. I would think the D steering wheel returns with similar seats as standard now. In terms of interior, you only need to look as far as the Impreza / Cross Trek to get an idea of the setup. I’m sure the boost gauge and info screen return. Whether the bigger touch screen from the 2020 Outback gets implemented is more intriguing to me. Last. There will be 100 different special editions and stupid color series just like every other year. If you want the headaches of a first model year, grab a 2021. If you want the version with upgraded tech and implemented customer feedback, buy the 2024. In short, buy a 2020 now and trade for the 2024...
The GJ/VA WRX & STI for awhile has always came off slightly old given the Impreza moved onto the GK platform underpinned by the new Subaru Global Architecture and is a much better base car than the outgoing Impreza on which the WRX & STI is based on. Yes the rally twins are much more special than the cooking Impreza, but one just gets a sense you're buying a souped up version of an older car than a brand-new vehicle.
I own a 2017 STi. My lease ends when the 2021 has come and I can read the reviews. The rumors I’m hearing I’m not really impressed and I hope they are wrong. I love the car but I just want alittle more
What I would like to know what’s inside the engine, trans, what is different from the other STIs that always had engine problem(heads blowing off, pistons, etc) did the car came with better quality parts such as forged pistons? The car is basically the same as of cosmetic few changes here and there but we did not heard what is new on the inside of the engine it’s what matters? Better parts??
Jesse I think I'm going to wait, I think it will have the new engine like the BRZ with updated interior just with turbo, hopefully better seats and toe heal, New, as long as you get the warranty we should be good
If the new sti come in under 40k and has a twin scroll on a fa24, and body is nice, I'll probably buy it. The fa24 has already been pushed to 500whp and 480-500wtq on bolt ons. By prime motoring. With over 56 recorded dyno pulls. And that is these accent fa24. Sti could get a better fa24. Or they could give it a sad fa20.
I answered it for myself. I bought a 19 sti that I plan on keeping....forever lol.

They say you are fast becoming a Legend in those parts.
WB Wayne you are awesome!
2020 limited sti with short throw shifter in CWP ordered September 7th. Got the VIN last week and delivery date of 11/13. I heard the earthquake and typhoon that hit Japan last week may have halted production.
Congrats Jeremy! I hope it gets here sooner rather than latter!
Your sub count has really rocketed since I last saw congrats
Thanks for taking the time to say that!
Friend of mine that works for Subaru apparently said the STI is on a 7 year rotations. Might be waiting until 2022 for new gen
It is a done deal Sergi. It is happening next year.
Raiti's Rides maybe i should hold off on buying my 2020. Hard decision. If they’re doing an FA motor though, might wanna go with the EJ now and have some rumble
I can’t get passed the low mpg’s for the STI but I would never want to buy the first model year of any car
Victor Rodriguez good points!
It will be intersting to see how it turns out!
Thanks for sharing your input and perspective! I really appreciate you watching!
The more i drive mine the more I like it. I’m making allot of changes to make it mine now so it will be a keeper for a while.
Andrew Munczenski congrats Andrew!👍🏻
Should be intersting to say the least!
Not much more than a regular WRX STI. 308 bhp, regular steering rack 13:1, brembo 6 pot front and 2 pot rear, not much in the way of suspension and handling enhancements, nothing like a Type RA or an S208.
Just bought a 2020 STI today!
Congrats! You are going to love it!
Thanks for the video reviews very informative and fun.
We don’t want just the hatch that’s why, people wanna be able to choose between the hatch and a sedan
If the 2021sti has those canted rods like the fa20 then EJ is the way to go.
Joe is THE BEST SALES PERSON!
My opinion, if you want a "tuner" car and you want a manual transmission, Then yes, you better get it now, as the new 2021 might not have those. (reason why I got my '19) If you are not a fan of the ej - which many people aren't, then you would be better to wait for the 2021
It will be interesting to see how this pans out!
I'd suggest for someone to wait until the 2021 gets announced and all the info is out, and then from there decide whether it's worth their time, or whether to get a 2020.
Also to answer your question, McLarens have hydraulic steering pumps still 🙂
Buying my first STI tomorrow from Lokey. Being transported at this moment.
I have a 2014 STI hatchback, the amount of people who wanna buy it now is crazy lol
I got the 2020 wrx but on a lease, with every intention to buy it in 3 years - but it gives me an out of I really fall in love with the new design ... I can switch in 3 years ;-)
By the way I’d really love to see a video on the WRX with the performance trim (Recaro seats and Brembo brakes)
Great way to go!
As soon as they get one I am all over it!
Raiti's Rides thank you can’t wait ! Love your videos!
Jus bought 2020 STI magnetite grey ☺️☺️
Congrats Joshua! Great color!
After watching this I think I will drive my Subie to work tomorrow and give the DD a day off.
That sounds like a fun drive in!
It's going to be interesting to see how this all pains out!
don’t hate the new style of the wheels but for an Sti?? It just kills it for me!
I agree with you Gus.
If you think about it, an FA STi won't have bugs...
They been running an FA in the wrx for years.
Now compare...
EJ205 ->wrx
EJ207->STi
EJ255-> WRX
EJ257-> STi
Main difference was really crank, turbo and tmic and tune.
Granted we didn't get an ej207 in America.
Ej20g vs ej20k lol
Anything new built either by robots or humans can have issues.
@@RaitisRides I'm just saying, the FA motor is getting it's kinks worked out before it goes into the STi, feel me?
I have 2017 STI trade in for 2019 STI. Never regret it. In my opinion the 2019 STI is more refine than the older generation. That being said I own 2004 STI.
jhovene16 yes sir! Congrats man!
Raiti's Rides thank you!
Of course my friend!

People complains the new Supra doesn't have the old 2JZ
People complains the new STI has the old EJ
People can't stop complaining
MikeM this is true
Not really, majority of people are complaining about why Toyota didn’t make their own car instead of bmw making it. Secondly, people wanted a newer engine, not the 2JZ again, people were expecting a 3JZ.
@@Curlyheadrae24 well what people weren't expecting was a car that was basically built by bmw.
I don’t think Subaru will stray away from the glorious bulletproof 6 speed. It’s perfect the way it is and going to a new trans could lead to issues. As for the ej, I’m thinking possibly a FA25 2.5L?
No you are right about the gearbox Nick.
Very good points!
I'm gunna hang on to my 1999 sti until I'm really impressed with a newer one
I would hold on to it forever!
If they put a DCC in the new STI, subaru will be shooting themselves in the foot. STIs are meant to be manuals. They are one of the only cars keeping the stick alive, and it would be cheaper for them just to put the same STI trans in the new model.
I totally agree with you!
Another great video Joe and a nice send off to the 2020...If they get rid if the hood scoop and rear wing on the 2021 Subaru will lose a lot of buyers
Hatchbacklife!!! Had 3 in a row..Xj Cherokee, Focus St, 04 Wrx wagon. But tbh Im aboutt to maybe buy this identical '20. I'm so undecided..Gr or Va..argh
Ive always wanted a wrx . hopefully one day I'll get to try one out .
JoeyJoe make it happen brother. 👍
You can do it Joey!
Dreamy yes sir!
You won’t regret it , they are amazing. You can take turn so fast , like the car is glued to the road .
I just bought a brand new 2019 WRX STI 3 days ago.. 1.9 APR plus cash back.. I traded in my 2018 Mazda 6 Grand Touring Reserve Turbo for it.
Great job! Congrats on your NEW STI!
moe malik I bet you miss the Mazda a little? But that 6 speed is nice
Not a fan of the new wheel colour, but the vents are a nice touch.
In 2004, the STi was 30k...
But with inflation that 30k is 40.75k
Holy shit. I was ready to call bullshit then I actually looked it up. You right tho...
AGREED!
He is good!

Man oh man I wish I had money & the License for this gorgeous World Rally Blue 2020 Subaru WRX STI with those great looking Wheels ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤. Would love to see a 2020 Subaru Impreza 1 day. Thanks Joe. 🙏🏼
I am getting it soon brother!
@@RaitisRides Thanks Joe
You are amazing at talking without saying a damn thing.
That is because you are not listening.
@@RaitisRides Or was I listening? That's one of the great mysteries. Do you know if I was listening? Who likes to listen? Talk about it in the comments below. (
Oh man that’s my car , i bought it is funny because i saw your video before buying it and i didn’t know it was the same dealership 😂 my baby was driven by a youtuber 🔥💪💪
Congrats! It is a great car!
Rumors regarding the 2021:
Japan to receive the 2.0 at 315hp
US to receive 2.4 at 335 (basically a turbo’d version of what’s in the Ascent)
There will be no dual clutch.
I think you brought up some great points!
Great info! Thank you for sharing that!
This is way better buy than the type r more options for that kind of money my opinion great review
I totally agree Angel! Thanks for letting me share it with you!
I hate how alot of car manufacturers put the the side mirrors on the doors instead on the window. Just my opinion.
Can you do a 2021 sti review for the heck of it Joe? Also is subaru keeping this sti body style the same in 2022?…:.I heard it was
I own a 2017 STi. My lease ends when the 2021 has come and I can read the reviews. The rumors I’m hearing I’m not really impressed and I hope they are wrong. I love the car but I just want alittle more
Great review Sir!!!
Thank you Luis! That means a lot!
just got a 2020 STI on saturday nothing can compare.
Congrats Jason.
@@RaitisRides thx to u keep up the good work
When do you think they’ll reveal the look of the new 2021?
I am hoping NY Auto Show in April.
17 city 22 hwy. Mpg Kills it for me. CTR get 25/30 mpg. My legacy gt was terrible on gas and only premium.
This is true!
Picking my 2020 sti up Saturday needed one b4 they changed the motor
Currently torn between getting this last generation STI, or wait for the new one 😓. Help!
I would jump on it now!
Jesse I think I'm going to wait, I think it will have the new engine like the BRZ with updated interior just with turbo, hopefully better seats and toe heal, New, as long as you get the warranty we should be good
Knowing Subaru don't wait for the 2021 it will be plagued with problems. At least the last two STI's got a slightly refreshed EJ25.
