That’s messed up because Anna was the first Play member, and why should she try to dictate who she wants back when she left? I heard Rosie backed out because Anna wasn’t returning. If this is true, management shouldn’t have allowed Faye to call the shots
I agree 100 percent. I heard Faye and Ana and did not get along towards the end one of the reasons why Faye left. Good for Rosie for passing since Ana wasn’t allowed back because Faye just quit again this time sooner. I feel like the only reason why they let Faye control that was because she quit before and probably wasn’t on board if Ana was in the band again and since let’s be honest Faye has the best voice and Ana doesn’t have the strongest voice so they just went along with it and then Faye just quits. I wonder what would of happened if it was just anais, Rosie and Ana. Probably would of actually went further since I see them all sticking it out longer than faye was willing to both times

The Girl’s Mind EP actually features an earlier recording of “Another Love Story” featuring Faye’s vocals.” Before this release, we only knew the version released on Don’t Stop The Music- edited to replace Faye’s vocals with Janet’s. When Faye first departed Play, she left behind maybe a few recordings for the third album.
I love your take on telling the story of this girl group. I love the little dash of humor you add to it while still sharing the serious moments. I actually found out more info about the girls on here than looking on my own 🤣 I’m glad they all moved on and found other projects that they were passionate about!
Fun fact: Rosie, Emelie, and Anais are friends with Tove Lo. They all went to the high school, Rytmus. She is in their Everygirl music video very briefly. Rosie is also friends with Icona Pop. I remember seeing her tweet about them many years ago.
Oh there also was a video circulating of the group with Emelie during some LA promo trips and the girls were singing an acapella cover of “Too Lost In You” originally by Sugababes.
I have all of Rosanna's old Myspace songs! most of them are in voice memo quality though :/ if you wanted them please let me know. I loved Play, I have a signed copy of Under My Skin & an old, full box of their CDs, other media, magazine clippings, etc. I've thought about making a video showing all of it for other Play stans to see, lol.

Actually, Emelie didn't record Destiny with the group. It's only Anais and Sanne. However, with Hearing Emelie sing acapella,she would be really close vocally to what we what have got if the lineup with Rosie,Anais and Faye.

It's too bad Anna's memoir (the English translation of the title is something like "You Are Replaceable" - ouch!) is only in Swedish, because I'm sure there's a lot to unpack there. Other random Play connections -- Janet competed twice in Melodifestivalen, the annual Swedish song contest to pick a Eurovision entry (2013 and 2014), but sadly didn't win either time -- you can find videos of her performances on RUclips. Anders Bagge, Laila's ex-husband, competed in Melodifestivalen this year and almost won! Thankfully, he didn't -- he was beaten by another former Swedish girl group member :).

Another Play connection I remembered: Anais' older sister Amanda was also in the music industry a few years before Play and released a very poppy, Britney-esque album, so it's really interesting to hear her talk about it now (she was interviewed for over an hour on another YT channel called Mariel Talks Pop -- I don't think she mentioned Anais or Play much though). IIRC, Amanda did appear in a Play video back in the day (for their It's a Hard Knock Life cover) as a body double for Faye, since apparently Faye was sick the day of the shoot and couldn't do all the group shots. The Mariel Talks Pop channel also includes an interesting interview with all five members of i5, who you mentioned in part 1.

I just realized that either one they didn't hire janet and just had a trio or two they writing there own songs and produced there own album and it would have been there biggest album at that time

I re-bought the Replay on CD. Their best album! Under My Skin is a second! "They were just hooting and hollering about being big girls and 'I Must Not Chase the Boys' and now they have a tween back in the group." "The stylist clearly hated Anais." Died! More like the stylist was jealous of Anais. I wish Faye would have remained in Play for at least one more album. They had so much unchartered territory left. No hate on Janet, but she set them back. Under My Skin was a makeup for that, though I wish it had a US release. I remember when they reunited. I was happy to see Anais and Faye back in the group but sad to see Anna and Rosie were not.
Emelie did not sing on Destiny. It was Anais and Sanne only. Faye called Laila and quit the morning they were due in the recording studio to record Destiny so there was no time to get anyone else. Emelie was hired a month or so later. She was cool, but without Faye's incomparable voice there was no realistic chance. She would always make the difference between a group that was good and a group that was great. We never will know what would have happened if Faye had never quit, the first time or the second time, but there is reason to believe the group would have gone on to big things. As for Anna, she was younger than the other girls and there was always some tension with her from the first iteration of the group, so when they got back together the other girls felt it was best to go on without her.
I REALLY want to know what happened with Anna in the group. I knew she was younger and now looking back I can see how Anais and Faye came across as cold towards her.

I honestly feel like the Don't Stop the Music era could've been savaged if handled better while yes musically it was abit of regression but I think they still could've gotten some hits from it. The title track, Seven, You Found Me, Another Love Story & Hand In Hand could've made some decent singles and got some hits they also maybe should've snuck on a few mature sounding songs to balance it all out. As for the third line-up. it took me a minute to warm up to Sanne due to her vocal tone being such a contrast to Play's sound but she's an incredible vocalist and her, Faye & Anais gelled so well together and Under My Skin a great solid album. It sucks it wasn't able to get any traction here in the US cause Girls, Second Hand Love, & Not The One were screaming to be US singles. I was disappointed when Faye dipped out the group again and as for Emelie.... no shade to her but she wasn't there long enough for me to count her as member. She's like the Farrah Franklin of Play her stint was so short. Sanne is now a mom now (I follow her on IG) and has a new band called House Of Say and the music is awesome. Rosie & Anna are moms now aswell. I hope one day can get a reunion with the OG lineup (i won't exclude Janet or Sanne but i don't see either one of them returning to the group but a 5 piece reunion with either one of them would be awesome). Great documentary overall.. Play deserves their flowers
I doubt we'll ever see them together.Mainly Faye...I'm not certain but based on what I've seen (Mainly dealing with Anna) she seems like a mean girl who was also on the fence about the group in general. "Under My Skin" was a fantastic album. Under My Skin,When Love is Bleaching Bad and Consequence of you are great vocal tracks. Sanne was the perfect bridge between Anais and Faye (Anais seemingly being vocally weaker than she was as a teen) and Faye also seeming to be untamed vocally. Her voice was higher than it was a teen.
@iKETOURAGE I think with the right opportunity, they'll do a big one-off reunion performance at least. Yeah it was said on Made in Sweden while they were recording they were recording the album Anaïs hadn't sung at all since Play had first broke up so she was out of practice vocally

also ghost vs sanne is a good album - recommend it if you like her voice

I honestly feel like the Don't Stop the Music era could've been savaged if handled better while yes musically it was abit of regression but I think they still could've gotten some hits from it. The title track, Seven, You Found Me, Another Love Story & Hand In Hand could've made some decent singles and got some hits they also maybe should've snuck on a few mature sounding songs to balance it all out.
As for the third line-up. it took me a minute to warm up to Sanne due to her vocal tone being such a contrast to Play's sound but she's an incredible vocalist and her, Faye & Anais gelled so well together and Under My Skin a great solid album. It sucks it wasn't able to get any traction here in the US cause Girls, Second Hand Love, & Not The One were screaming to be US singles.
I was disappointed when Faye dipped out the group again and as for Emelie.... no shade to her but she wasn't there long enough for me to count her as member. She's like the Farrah Franklin of Play her stint was so short.
Sanne is now a mom now (I follow her on IG) and has a new band called House Of Say and the music is awesome.
Rosie & Anna are moms now aswell.
I hope one day can get a reunion with the OG lineup (i won't exclude Janet or Sanne but i don't see either one of them returning to the group but a 5 piece reunion with either one of them would be awesome).
Great documentary overall.. Play deserves their flowers
I doubt we'll ever see them together.Mainly Faye...I'm not certain but based on what I've seen (Mainly dealing with Anna) she seems like a mean girl who was also on the fence about the group in general. "Under My Skin" was a fantastic album. Under My Skin,When Love is Bleaching Bad and Consequence of you are great vocal tracks. Sanne was the perfect bridge between Anais and Faye (Anais seemingly being vocally weaker than she was as a teen) and Faye also seeming to be untamed vocally. Her voice was higher than it was a teen.
@iKETOURAGE I think with the right opportunity, they'll do a big one-off reunion performance at least. Yeah it was said on Made in Sweden while they were recording they were recording the album Anaïs hadn't sung at all since Play had first broke up so she was out of practice vocally
In a way, highs n lows; PLAY was indie n zero effs in spirit. Sure the reality was splitting n such. Yet those songs are timeless. Plus Age ism n validity into charting on music charts; are a speck of zero effs to the public domain. For while PLAY may not be PLAYING around anymore; their songs live on. For music is another life from the person that recorded it. Facts on Facts.
