Chess players should be the ones interviewing each other. They actually know what to ask. Just look at Carlsen here-how often to you see him enjoy talking about a game like this? They’re having a blast. I want more of these videos where the two players talk to each other about the game, for sure!
RaifNW i think it’s just the nature of the character type of chess players. They tend to be more introspective and careful of what they say. More so when nowadays any analysis they give can potentially be proven wrong by a computer.
Any analysis? Hardly. A computer does not know an opponent's mindset. Part of Chess is reading how impulsive your opponent is playing and what their likely moves are.
There's a valuable life-lesson on display here. The more competent you are at a complex, difficult activity or subject, the less certain you are of your performance. Only simpleton idiots are 'sure' they are right. So, beware when someone goes on and on about how they are an 'expert.'
If you follow chess live, this kind of thing shows how utterly stupid 99% of the chat comments are. "waaah they missed x because the engine says...", shut up. They saw it all. ALL of it.
They see everything. We need to tell that chat the that are SUPER-GM's and they probably seen this position before in some random game that you wouldn't even bother to remember.
Just a suggestion: Add a chess board in the top right corner showing Magnus and Svidler's perspective of the board. Would be very helpful for players like us to understand what they meant while moving the pieces. Thanks for hosting this tournament!
Anyone who watches GM Peter Svidler's Banter Blitz shows knows that he's the real deal... this is vintage Pete! Carlsen is just enjoying Peter's passion and is grooving along.
This was wonderful. I like both players and seeing them analyzing their amazing game that ended in a hard fought draw in totally new positions from an unusual opening was just an immense pleasure. Thanks!
It is great to find Magnus in a personable mood like this. I don't think he would do such a thing with every grandmaster. Svidler has a good record against him, and so Carlsen probably shows him a bit more respect than other grandmasters. I wonder if there is a similar video featuring Carlsen and Nakamura.
1:33 - Check out the hand movement, omg. / And the mutual respect of two competitors who have JUST exited the same fire. Still radiating heat, far from cooling down.
i watched the whole video and couldn't understand completely a single line of their thinking process, maybe i was distracted seeing how fast they move the pieces and go back organizing them before some plays...
tornado100able moving the pieces is actually more of an exercise to keep their hands active. They already have most of the positions played out in their minds which is why they often talk about things that are not even on the board. What could supplement this is if someone actually laid out the positions they’re analysing on a GUI so that we normal folk can follow them better.
Interesting that Carlsen would consider Peter as part of his team for the preparation of this year's world championship. In all sincerity, Peter is a tremendous player, very solid, perhaps, not so much in the finals, but there, Magnus does not need help in the least. Also, if Carlsen has incorporated the madman of the IAN NEPO, how can he not consider this player that I consider to be far above in terms of technical level? Someday I'll ask the champion.
Wow and I can't even remember what I played on move 2. Watching these guys talk about the game they just played, really shows they are the best in the world!
I love the subtle insecurity that every other player in the world feels when seated opposite Magnus. The same is true of the subtle dominance that Magnus imposes whenever seated at the board. I love paying attention in these analyses how reluctant Magnus' opponents are to suggest potential lines. Even though they're thd top 10 or 20 in the world they seem like they're afraid that Magnus will point out an obvious flaw and make them look silly. They always seem to be willing to hop on board with his suggestions, too. I think only Aronian and Caruana really pick Magnus's brain in these post-game analysez. Most anyone else seems like a puppy in the rain.
Love the face of the mic guy. I dunno if he's a GM, or has a good ELO or if he plays chess at all, but he's like... I wish I knew what these couple of monsters are talking about. Lol
When Svidler suddenly goes through all the lines in his head picking up a lot of pieces (somewhere bewteen 3rd and 4th minute) and Magnus is like yeah I see what you mean, you realize these guys are freaking monsters. I mean, I think mayyybe I could do stuff like that if it were my game, but nowhere near that quickly and that confidently.
So this is how chess keeps improving, the best players go through every possible move in a situation in a game against each other, adding ideas to the collective knowledge of all GM.... huh
I wonder how many of the top GMs would consider this discussion as interesting? someone has probably spent a couple of hours studying this video, and making several pages of notes.. ?
Manoj Kumar I don't know what he's referring to exactly, but what they said was not planned. Maybe the cameras and the mic was planned, but they had just finished the game, so they had nothing to plan for. This is regular talk for players after the game, it's just never recorded like this.
I don't even know how to play chess, but I appreciate the passion. I am very passionate about other stuff. Things you know. So I guess I am a level two genius like Elon Musk. If you are judging me just remember that French Fries sometimes come without salt.
Peter talks too much. (Although he's pretty good at it, as we all know) But when you have the world champ analysing a game with you, you leave him at least some room to express himself. Not ones during these 13 ' (maybe at 11:00) did Peter allow Magnus to get into a deeper line without interrupting. What a waist for Peter.

yeah but then we wouldn't understand anything at all anymore
Maddie Pilz true! Until I get my super gm title! Lol
+kelly white so true!
Good point, haha!
I love how GM's are never sure of anything :D
lmao
RaifNW i think it’s just the nature of the character type of chess players. They tend to be more introspective and careful of what they say. More so when nowadays any analysis they give can potentially be proven wrong by a computer.
It's amazing that they're able to play any moves during the game after tanking on all those possible lines.
Any analysis? Hardly. A computer does not know an opponent's mindset. Part of Chess is reading how impulsive your opponent is playing and what their likely moves are.

Didn't understand half of this but great listening to how super GMs discuss their games.
All post-game interviews/analysis should be exactly like this. This is GREAT.
This is immensely enjoyable.
If you follow chess live, this kind of thing shows how utterly stupid 99% of the chat comments are. "waaah they missed x because the engine says...", shut up. They saw it all. ALL of it.
So true.

THIS IS THE BEST IDEA SINCE A LONG TIME! WHAT AN EDUCATION AND ENTERTAINMENT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Anyone who watches GM Peter Svidler's Banter Blitz shows knows that he's the real deal... this is vintage Pete! Carlsen is just enjoying Peter's passion and is grooving along.
Peter is a cool guy and super strong, great to see Magnus and Peter friendly analysis.
amazing! the things they see during the game!
This was wonderful.
I like both players and seeing them analyzing their amazing game that ended in a hard fought draw in totally new positions from an unusual opening was just an immense pleasure. Thanks!

An 8x Russian Champion is easily equal to a 2x World Champion.
This shows the true love of chess they have.
1:33 - Check out the hand movement, omg. / And the mutual respect of two competitors who have JUST exited the same fire. Still radiating heat, far from cooling down.
Much more interesting watching them analyse over the board. Even though we weren't able to keep up
this is amazing!! Finally someone covered the analysis!!! thank youuu very much!!!
I don't know....
You need to make a video about this
Suren you are also here sir 😁 already following your channel
A Dubious comment
I couldn't force myself to do it.
suren penetrating the comments
The horsey thing moves in a little L-shape right?
two squares forwar, backward, left or right, and one square to the left or right of that.
lol
Bruh... Chill don't go super GM level so soon
lmao ok this was funny.
Nope it jumps off the board
Their 1 minute thought=our 1hr thought😂😂
😂😂
In my case it could be 1 month thinking or so. Or, more sincerely, there are variants that would NEVER come to my mind ;)
Jesus.....now you know what you're up against if you have to play one of these guys.......no chance.
i watched the whole video and couldn't understand completely a single line of their thinking process, maybe i was distracted seeing how fast they move the pieces and go back organizing them before some plays...

lol no matter if you're elite GM, always set the board at the end #manners
this is just awesome.
Exhibit A evidence for there needing to be a rank above grandmaster. These men are super human.
Great content.
Highest level.
Watched the game live, and had no idea what was goin on, even when my engine was up
that man quietly holding the mic without interrupting the players in middle, has my respect
Amazing - they are hitting the back button and then forward a crazy number of times and discussing various what if scenarios...
This is the best i ever seen in chees history... get more of this....with analysis of a game between two players :)
The one holding the microphone aged 10 years during this analysis interview.
It's so fun to watch great minds relishing each other's company over chess.
@6:36 Vidit looking back in total awe. lol
this is how chess engines work, in human form lol
all of what they did in milliseconds
It's Svidler-Magnus, the title is wrong
Fascinating how they remember all the moves and variations.
Best chess video I’ve ever seen

Alpha Zero be like " Stupid humans...! Discussing all the wrong variations ."
Alpha Zero would be saying that about Stockfish!
Who cares about Alpha Zero?
God...."That stupid Alphazero......it can't calculate to mate from the first move"
alpha zero would be looking for king e2 and laughing at their prep
Wow and I can't even remember what I played on move 2. Watching these guys talk about the game they just played, really shows they are the best in the world!

Cool Conversation! Thanks for uploading!!
The mutual respect these two have for one another, is rich and profound.
They handle the pieces sloppier than a doctors handwriting.
I am a doctor and this is way sloppy
Even GM's wish they could have such a nice post analysis with Magnus.
I understood all of that and think they are both totally correct in their evaluations :o
lol?
LOL !!
lol
lol!!!!!!!!!
Ha ha ha !! Good one!
amazing Gukesh in the background, 6 yrs later he becomes the youngest ever world championship challenger!!
"Objectively", they are right.
These two should never be invited at a party together
likely, possible, maybe features a lot which shows GMs are quite human after all !
Magnus can't get a word in ;) Lovely vid!
Awesome
impressionante como eles analizam rapido
So this is how chess keeps improving, the best players go through every possible move in a situation in a game against each other, adding ideas to the collective knowledge of all GM.... huh

I wonder how many of the top GMs would consider this discussion as interesting? someone has probably spent a couple of hours studying this video, and making several pages of notes.. ?
very nice
Was this spontaneous? or planned?
Jenny Bonah spontaneous

How could this not be spontaneous? Can you not feel their enthusiasm and energy?
Amazing! Grandmasters analyzing
Why they hit the table?
this super gm's love to talk , what could be possible concrete tree of variations :)) cheers mate :))
If chess grandmasters are so smart, why haven't they considered yet that some fans may not follow whats happening...
Tks very much
Way too difficult for me, but interesting to see.
What happen in the real game?
i dont play chess and for me they are just moving those pieces around randomly in the heat of conversation
This is very good :)
I don't even know how to play chess, but I appreciate the passion. I am very passionate about other stuff. Things you know. So I guess I am a level two genius like Elon Musk. If you are judging me just remember that French Fries sometimes come without salt.
which language
As someone who just started playing chess........I uhhh.....well.....im lost
Wrong title
He isn' t Karjakin
Microphone guy is thinking .."I just born at the age of seventy "..... seems like he just wake up from time capsule !

Эх, успевать бы понять, о чем они говорят, вот было бы здорово...
Its easy to be a general after the battle.

This is funny, interesting, and boring at the same time.
