For me, Jan is the best chess commentator on youtube. Close behind are Eric Hansen, Peter Svidler and Yasser Seirawan. Thank you so much for these videos!

It's a matter of meanings, of course. Jan is, of course, pretty good, however I think Pepe Cuenca is unbeatable. Pepe Cuenca is the best: deep, precise, and allways making fun.

Daniel King is the best and most consistent. Pepe is annoying. Jan is great. Chessnetwork is slow and steady and great for noobs. MATO skips over too many possible continuations and important tactics plus I'm getting bored of the "pause the video" feature he has.

I agree with all of those, Ben, but I didn't know about Daniel King. I'll look at his channel now, thanks for the heads up!

Jan and Peter together cannot be topped. Their analysis is amazing, and they keep it fun.

Pretty rough that you have to record videos twice. I don't mind if you just throw english subtitles on the german videos

      I do

Just curious Ben, would putting German subtitles on an English video also bother you?

Dave Cradle I mind if we end up only getting one video when we can have two. The system isn't broken. No need to streamline it.

That's fair, Ben. But the point was that each video needs to be recorded twice (by the same people). Would you prefer half as many videos in two languages, or twice as many videos in one language. I realise that is an over-simplification so let's just say "more single language videos" and "less two language videos"? Personally, I would like to see analysis of more games, but I personally would struggle with German language, English subtitles. Possibly German speakers feel the opposite. :-)

I don't really understand the choice of preferences you offered. I would have thought that having the videos in two different languages would have led to twice as many videos, because they were recorded twice, not half as many.
Subtitles are a last resort. Subtitles fail to capture all the nuances of the speaker, and Jan has many many nuances. Why have a reduced version of what the speaker is saying when they are getting paid for every video they make anyway? Jan also enjoys speaking in English. How much more work is going to have to be done by the poor bastard who has to write the subtitles? Do you know how long subtitles take to make?
Seems simple to me to prefer to have the higher quality product. There are so many reasons.

Please cover the game between Kramnik - Wei Yi from round 1

Did Peter Svidler give too much respect to Kramnik? He was less lost than So was against Fabi according to computers (I know that might not be a good metric, but it would be even sillier for me to try to analyze the positions myself).

xdmx Svidler had no counterplay. Easy conversion for Kramnik, while So, as it happened in the final moves, had a few tricks.

xdmx Peter is notorious for early resignation. I'm sure he does it out of disgust at himself for playing badly.
