Fix for fridge that's against a wall

  • The biggest problem in my kitchen for YEARS has been the placement of the fridge. It’s up against the wall, which means the door won’t open all the way and the corner has been damaging the drywall.
When the fridge broke recently and I needed to replace it, I took it as a sign to finally address the functional problem too. Watch to see what I did!
This is a great example of how the smallest change can have such a huge impact on everyday life. Always be willing to think outside the box when faced with problems!

You would think the person who laid out the kitchen would think of this.

Right? I guess it's a problem you never think about unless you've lived it.

Hate that the fridge has a clear spot for it but its not the right size. My fridge has that too and iits just awful. But its hard to fix probably bc they make different sizes of fridges these days.

Yes, I could get a smaller fridge but then I would have a huge gap next to the wall, and would not have as much storage space inside for food. This solution worked best for me :)

Or you could get a fridge with 1 door instead of 2

If I had a one-door fridge with the hinge on the right it would be the same problem. If I had the hinge on the left the door would be super annoying to open every time because of the angle

Our builder laid 2 foundations, no vapor barrier, 8 bends, 3 Y pipes, and a semicircle in the sewer piping causing sewage backup in the basement (8 times in 3 months). We've only lived here 9 months. A 36 foot trench, a complete recipe, gutted bathroom (where we found moldy insulation and a cracked water pipe caused by cheap plastic fittings over tightened), concrete releveling, mold remediation, drywall, flooring, and complete bathroom reconstruction happening now. So angry. Previous seller? "We never used the basement." Which was finished and full of arcade games when we viewed the house. THEY KNEW there was a plumbing issue. So many other builder issues. Money pit.

OH my goodness, what a nightmare! My fridge problem seems like a blessing in comparison. Hope you get through everything quickly :)

Outdated cabinets devalue home because kitchen and bathrooms matter.cabinets on top of refrigerator are the least used cabinets in my home so I got rid of them and ordered taller customized refrigerator with doors that matched the wood cabinet. Everything became seamless, ceiling looked taller and I can fully utilize shelves that my refrigerator is standing on.😳🙆‍♀️

    Fantastic solution!!!
But also, are there no single door fridges in America, or? I mean fair if you just didn't want one of course xD this solution was great and also looks fantastic

We do have single-door fridges but I like the visual look of the 2-door better. Functionally speaking, a 1-door wouldn't have worked for me, though. If it had the hinge on the right, it would still be up against the wall. If the hinge were on the left, the huge door would open into the room at an inconvenient angle, since all the kitchen workspace would be on the left of the fridge. Thanks for the compliment on my solution :)
