RIP lead singer Eric Carmen. So talented.
I just heard this song on the radio followed by the news that Eric passed over the weekend. Sad. He had a fantastic voice, for ballads or power pop.
Lead singer AND rhythm guitarist!! 🌹
@@bobthebear1246 and played piano too!
When I heard the news it caused me great sadness.
This song was soooo big in 1972. RIP Eric Carmen.
Yes it was, and I loved it back then and totally forgot about it and probably haven't heard it for 35 years! Eric Carmen, one of the better rock vocalists to come down the pike, and Gotta love RUclips for bringing this gem back to life for me. I think I've played it 8 times so far, I can't get enough!
I remember as a teenager in '72 when this came out, I would listen to this over and over ad nauseam until my Dad said don't think you're gonna be going all the way anytime soon. I honestly didn't know what that meant and I wasn't about to ask him. It just struck a chord with my adolescent self and I love it to this day. Thanks for this, guys!
my sister bought the record and my mother wouldn't let me listent to it!
Your dad made me laugh!
Sounds alot like what my late Dad would have said....LOL
I totally feel you about not asking Dad, when I was about 9-10 somehow was reading a book from a church that was for young teens, it mentioned masturbation, I tried to figure out what it was by the context but couldn’t figure it out, my Dad was only one home with me that day so I asked him, well he hemmed and hawed, finally told me it was something boys did, and it would make you go blind. I didn’t tell him that I figured out finally what he was talking about, I’m not sure who was more embarrassed, him or me!
👊🏼👍🏼That's music 🎶 🎵!!
Eric Carmen is a musical genius. Basically 2 totally different songs that somehow work together.
I came here to say this. EC is classically trained.
I believe that Wally Bryson is responsible for the opening guitar riff.
-#cheers-- !-
Didn’t he do solo work in the 80’s?
That was the rap against them... two Beatles-like to be hard rock but too hard rock to be "the next Beatles".
It's 10.30pm Tuesday night 12/03/2024 and I've just flicked the T.V. over to Ch 9 in Sydney.
They were showing The Raspberries "Go all the Way"
I thought "Why are they playing that?" "Is Eric touring soon?"
Then I thought "Oh no he hasn't died" "Has he?"
My fears were confirmed by the news voice over person.
"Eric Carmen was 74"
Now I can't stop crying.
Not only did Eric help create one of the greatest, mind blowing Guitar riffs in Rock history, he then composed some of the most tasteful Ballads of all time.
Good quality Ballads are extremely hard to write.
Thanks for the great music and the brilliant singing voice Eric.
Eric lived a successful existence and died peacefully in his sleep.
"Come on Baby!!!"
RIP - Eric Carmen
Well said.
RIP, Eric, and thank you for some great memories of my youth.
Breaks my heart 😢 Eric Carmen was a talented singer/songwriter. He will be missed. Thanks for all the music RIP
Very well said. For "Go All The Way", the guitar riff was created by their lead guitarist Wally Bryson.
I'm crying too.....😢
RIP Eric Carmen 1949-2024 what an incredibly talented Singer -Guitarist- Pianist songwriter. First saw The Rasberries when I was 10 years old watching The Mike Douglass show with my grandma Hazel who would watch Mike religiously five days a week. They played Go All The Way. 51 years later the song still gives me chills!!
One of the most recognized riffs of the 70's
Goodbye and Godspeed to yet another icon from our youth. This seminal tune from my summer of '72 and time-trips back every time I hear or play it. Still have the 45 that I bought. RIP Eric.
RIP Eric Carmen. An incredibly talented songwriter/vocalist/musician and he was from my city, Cleveland...this sad news hits harder for us in Northeast Ohio. Please do more Eric Carmen reactions
What a songwriter. This is one of my favorite pop-rock songs ever. I went ape for it on the day it was released so so long ago.
Yes, please do more Eric Carmen /Raspberries
Yes, I’m from the outskirts of Cleveland …proud that he was from here, and really sorry to hear such sad news.
Same here. I was born and raised in Cleveland and they hit it big when I was in High School. I found out about Eric passing 4 days after he did and I was stunned and saddened.
I live in Cleveland, and when I sing this one at karaoke, it brings the house down!!
RIP Eric Carmen!! Got up this morning and heard the news and I have to say....I really got teary eyed. I loved his voice and had such a crush on him when I was a young girl...back in the 80's. I loved the music from the Raspberries....I loved Eric's music when he went solo. In the late 80's when he cut his hair....MAN did I LOVE staring at him in his video "Hungry Eyes". He was such a handsome man.
I love the Raspberries. It's like a roller coaster ride. Up and down. Gets your body moving. Rock on!
WELCOME TO 1972! RIP Eric Carmen!
This is one of the BEST GUILTY PLEASURE SONGS OF THE 70's along with:
HOW LONG by Ace
DON'T PULL YOUR LOVE by Hamilton Joe Frank & Reynolds
WHO'S THAT LADY by Isley Bros
LOWDOWN by Boz Scaggs
MONEY HONEY by Bay City Rollers
MAGIC by Pilot
SKY HIGH by Jigsaw
SHAMBALA by 3 Dog Night
MAGNET AND STEEL by Walter Egan
HELLO ITS ME by Todd Rundgren
KODACHROME by Paul Simon
HELP ME by Joni Mitchell
ITS A SHAME by the Spinners
What's to feel guilty about??? Okay, I can see feeling guilty about Don't Pull Your Love, Money Honey, It's Magic, and Sky High, but ALL of the other songs you listed here are great, and I'm proud to say that I don't feel guilty about liking any of them!
This was my dad's favorite song from his high school years. He used to tell me when he was a sophomore in 1972, this song was playing in a juke box his school cafeteria had during lunch. He would literally cheer every time he heard this song in Guardians of the Galaxy and in Dark Shadows.
When he died in 2018, I was cleaning my room and had my windows open. Midway through the song, I looked outside and there was a cardinal watchinf me. I like to think that was him checking on me listening to his favorite song again 🥺❤
The Raspberries and Badfinger were the true inheritors of the power pop legacy of the 1963-66 Beatles
@Tessmage Tessera
Well in some ways yes but of course the female vocals are usually a huge part of ABBA's sound while the Beatles really never featured female singers at all. Badfinger and the Raspberries were similar to the Beatles in band structure and it is possible to envision the Beatles singing their songs.
Todd Rundgren invented Power Pop with "Couldn't I Just Tell You".
Ummm........have you ever heard of Electric Light Orchestra?
@Tessmage_Tessera Abba was just pure Bubble Gum Pop. No power at all. They are in the range of Captain & Tennille and the Carpenters. Just pure sappy pop.
@@JStarStar00 That is probably because they (Badfinger) were on Apple Records and were initially produced by Paul McCartney who wrote their first hit "Come and Get It".
The finest example of Power Pop ever recorded. The very epitome of the genre.
Jay & Amber, you'll love lead singer Eric Carmen's "All By Myself" and "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again" !!!! "Go All The Way" reached #5.
Great recommendations 🙋🏻♀️
Carmen's solo stuff was a little softer, but what a great voice!
Amen
@@jeanstrickland2445 thx!
He also sang Hungry Eyes from the Dirty Dancing Soundtrack. This song was also on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 Soundtrack.
Go All The Way is one of the greatest power-pop hits of the early 1970's, and has stood the test of time. It has been used in so many different movie/tv scenes, such as "Almost Famous", "Guardians of the Galaxy", and the television series "Life On Mars". Eric Carmen was a classically trained musician who wrote very complex musical works and GATW is his most famous and successful creation. One can't help but to immediately recognize the song after hearing only 2 seconds of the intro. A true power-pop anthem. I have loved this song since the first time it came blaring out of the AM radio in my Buick Skylark in 1972.
Power Pop!❤❤❤
Absolutely agree this is one of the greatest power pop hits of all time. I'm from North Central Ohio so the Raspberries were local heroes. It is interesting that Eric Carmen wrote this from the woman's point of view, where SHE wanted to "Go All the Way" (that's why the "slow" part). This song went to #5 on the Hot 100 in 1972. I just wonder how big this group would have been had Carmen not left for a solo career.
Sadly, after Raspberries went through the personnel changes and released their fourth and final album, Starting Over", things went downhill and the band had a traumatic breakup in 1975. Eric Carmen said on stage during a reunion concert in 2006 at B.B. King's in NYC that "All By Myself" would have been the Raspberries next single if the band hadn't dissolved.@@dougclark7077
Where is it used in Almost Famous?
There is a scene in the film where a music critic, supposedly Lester Bangs, is shown dropping the neeedle of a record player onto Raspberries debut album and the opening riff begins to play. I haven't seen the movie in many years, so I don't know the exact point in time when it occurs.@@SpaceFlowerAesthetic
The song came out LONG before (in 1972) Guardians of the Galaxy. Another major hit for the Raspberries was "I Wanna Be With You." Lead singer Eric Carmen had his own huge solo career. You;ve done a few of his later songs, but you need to go into his 70s songs: "That's Rock and Roll" "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again" "Sunrise" "All by Myself" "She Did It" "Marathon Man" and "Hey Deanie"
Indeed... I got a chuckle when they referenced Guardians of the Galaxy
Hey deanie was covered by shawn cassidy back in the day
@@jimburow706 As was "That's Rock and Roll." Without covers, he'd never have had a musical career, LOL.
But I much prefer EC’s work with the Raspberries. The band was great.
The best in American power pop. The Raspberries ruled the charts in the early to mid 1970's
The lead singer of the Raspberries, Eric Carmen, was a musical prodigy. He was in a music program at the Cleveland Institute of Music at the age of three, began violin lessons by the age of six, played piano proficiently by the age of eleven, and taught himself to play the guitar after becoming unhappy with his guitar teacher's approach. His solo career includes such hits as "All By Myself," "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again," "Hungry Eyes" (from Dirty Dancing), and "Make Me Lose Control."
He was one of 3 lead-vocalists in the Raspberries.
He, just, happens to be the only one that most people know (ridiculously).
@SonicProfessor_a.k.a._T._Andra so was any band
Eric is a Cleveland boy! Our mothers were SHOCKED when my girlfriend and I belted out this song when it came on the car radio! We were so young we barely understood what we were singing about but we loved Eric just the same. My daughter met him years later when she worked at a high end clothing store he frequented. He told her that one of the proudest moments in his life was when a photographer took a now famous picture of John Lennon wearing a Raspberries tee shirt in downtown New York!
Aw! Wonderful, sweet stories!
The transitions have a purpose-the slow passages is the woman letting her feelings be known while the rockin side is the man's point of view and reaction. Other hits by the Raspberries-I Wanna Be With You, Overnight Sensation, tonight and Ecstacy.
Don't forget "Let's Pretend."
Love Overnight Sensation and That's Rock n Roll, so many great songs.
Great Lyrics:
"Before her love I was cruel and mean
Had a hole in the place where my heart should have been
But now I'm changed and I feel so strange
I come alive when she does all those things to me"
Rest in peace Eric Carmen. An amazing singer and songwriter who also gave us "All By Myself" (a big hit for both him and Celine Dion years later) and "Hungry Eyes".
"Go All the Way" was the Raspberries only Top 10 single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking @ #5 in 1972. They charted 7 singles in the Hot 100 before Carmen started his solo career. 1 in the Top 10 + 2 more in the Top 20 + 1 more in the Top 40 + 3 the the lower half of the 100 (#69, #86 & #94.) I like all of them.
Thanks Wiki
@@markmaioli4 Really? What a great attitude, music does this to people that aren't part robot!
In 1972 I was 11 years old and THIS was the song that introduced me to rock music. 'Go All The Way' was all over the radio in 72 and I couldn't listen to it enough. Still sounds cool today!
Quite possibly my favorite song of all time.
Rockers..."I Wanna Be With You"..."Tonight" ...""Ecstasy"....."I'm A Rocker"......quiet tunes...."Don't Want To Say Goodbye"..."Let's Pretend"..
...GREAT BAND! 😎
One of my favorite tunes. Glad you found it. Now, give Sugarloaf, Green Eyed Lady a try for all of us.
They did Green-Eyed Lady a few weeks ago.
Don't Call Us, We'll Call You from Sugarloaf next.
Couldn’t I Just Tell You by Todd Rundgren .
Yes Green eyed lady.
OK guys this song was groundbreaking. Please imagine a 13-year-old girl in a very small southern town. Our local radio station would not play this song because it was too racy. I bought the 45 and had to turn the record player down very low so my daddy would not hear the lyrics. This group and this song, all the rage. Also, Eric Carmen, the lead singer sang some of the songs from dirty dancing I’m almost surprise d you didn’t recognize his voice. My favorite by this group was Ecstasy.
Rest in peace Eric. You will be forever loved and missed. 🕊️❤️🕊️❤️🕊️
Those of us in our teens in the 70's had the best music ever!
Love this song. Was on the radio a lot in 1972.
This came out in 1972. Singer writer Eric Carmen (who later had numerous solo hits), said he had been going for a 60's vibe on the verses, and more "power pop" between. 400K !! Wow kids, congrats !!!
Rest in peace Eric.
The premier power pop band. RIP, Eric.
FYI, the band is new but the singer is not. You've already done Eric Carmen. The Raspberries was where he broke out. This is definitely one of my favorite songs of that era. Great hook, great riff
When the vocals come in, the music leaves room for those sweet harmonies.
When the Raspberries formed, they were more concerned with the vocals and harmonies. That just wound up rockin' a bit more than they originally intended.
Eric Carmen was a huge fan of the The Beatles. But, the record company, Capitol, tried to pass them off as the "new" Beatles, which pissed the band off. Also, Eric Carmen hated the way it turned out as far as the sound quality was concerned.
@@platterjockey I don't know what he was referring to as far as the sound quality goes but I absolutely love the guitar sound they got. Then I learned how to play it and it is such a cool riff.
@@jeff90125 Let me put it this way: Eric Carmen is an audiophile.
Congratulations on 400K Subscribers Amber & Jay!! Well deserved!! Awesome reaction! Here's to 500K and beyond!!

One of my all time favorite songs growing up, even though I didn’t realize what it meant. Rest in peace Mr. Carmen.
Go All the Way, Tonight, Ecstasy, and I Wanna Be With You are the Raspberries' horny singles. Very melodic and complex for pop songs. Teen boy wanting to take it to the next level with the girl he loves.
@Tessmage Tessera they were on the same page, definitely. Crazy kids. 😀
Eric Carmen was a great talent. Rest in peace. Love this song 70’s rock! 🎶🎼🎵🎤🎸🥁
Eric Carmen is an American singer, songwriter and musician who is best known for his 1975 hit song "All by Myself" which reached the Top 5 in the U.S. and Canada. He was born on August 11, 1949, in Cleveland, Ohio, and began playing the piano and guitar at an early age.
In the early 1970s, Carmen was a member of the Raspberries, a power pop band that enjoyed commercial success with hits like "Go All the Way" and "Overnight Sensation (Hit Record)." After the band's breakup in 1975, Carmen embarked on a successful solo career and released several popular albums, including his self-titled debut in 1975 and "Boats Against the Current" in 1977.
In addition to "All by Myself," some of Carmen's other notable hits include "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again," "She Did It," and "Hungry Eyes," which was featured in the movie "Dirty Dancing." Carmen has continued to write and perform music over the years, and was inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2018.
Eric Carmen was a brilliant songwriter and singer. The Raspberries were a great band. Eric's Solo stuff was amazing. Go All The Way was a #1 Song here in Canada 🇨🇦
The lead singer of this group, Eric Carmen had a solo career for awhile and had a few big hits. "All By Myself" that Celine Dion kis known for was his big hit first, and he wrote it. He had another great song, "Boats Against the Current." The only other big hit I can recall by The Raspberries is "I Wanna Be With You" which is a great more rocking song with some 50's vibes.
He wrote "All By Myself" and "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again" with a big assist from Sergei Rachmaninoff, whose descendents successfully sued and got a chunk of the royalties.
"I Only Want to Be With You" was the Bay City Rollers. I think you're thinking of I Wanna With You. Great song. The Raspberries also had minor hits with Tonight, Don't Want to Say Goodbye and I'm a Rocker.
@@debjorgo yes I noticed that. It's I Want to Be With You.
@@breckrichardson390 I love Never Gonna Fall in Love Again.
@@breckrichardson390 They got 12% for each one.
I've always loved this song. I was 14 when I first heard it. My mom thought it was indecent for me to listen to it at 14.😂😂
A lot of people thought that, in fact, there were some radio stations that wouldn’t play it because it was too suggestive.
You too 😅
Congratulations on 400,000 family members!!
What a great song. Never gets old.
I remember when I was a high school freshman, and this was a huge hit. I bought the 45. My mother had apparently seen a news item, in print or on TV, about how pop music was negatively influencing young people like myself. She was concerned about what music I was listening to, and asked me to play what I was listening to. Guess what happened to be on the turntable? THIS! LOL! I was 14 years old and really didn't understand what "Go All The Way" meant. I just loved the guitar work!
RIP Eric. Thanks for all the smiles and joy. Rock pop at its finest. And a famous 12 chord riff. Same as I wanna be with you...his other hit.
Paul McCartney's favorite bands. One of the top 5 songs ever written.
Raspberries lead singer and bass player Eric Carmen wrote this song. He went on to fame as a solo artist ("Hungry Eyes") and songwriter ("All By Myself").
This song is about a girl trying to convince a guy to "Go all the way," meaning to have sex with him. Carmen told Blender magazine in 2006 that he was inspired by The Rolling Stones performance of "Let's Spend The Night Together" when Mick Jagger had to sing it as "Let's spend some time together." Said Carmen, "I knew then that I wanted to write a song with an explicitly sexual lyric that the kids would instantly get but the powers that be couldn't pin me down for."
When this pop rock band formed in Cleveland, they had no name, and some of the suggestions that came forth were outrageous, bringing lead singer Eric ‘The Kid’ Carmen to a point of desperation in which he cited a favorite expression from the classic comedy The Little Rascals Our Gang where Stymie said, “I’ll get you, you little punk!” and Spanky responded “Aw, razz-berries!” The group is called The Raspberries, but they are not the edible fruit. Blowing a raspberry is a is a lot like making a fart sound and it is done by sticking out your tongue and blowing hard.
Eric Carmen isn't the bass player for the Raspberries. Dave Smalley was the bass player along with Jim Bonafanti (drums), and Wally Bryson (lead guitar). Eric Carmen played rhythm guitar.
Listen to the song a few times more and the contrast will feel like more of a flow. It's a really brilliant mix and the softer part is actually very catchy.
This is the quintessential power pop song. You want to hear a rocker by the Raspberries? Yall need to check out "Tonight."...I have gone through their whole discography and it's their heaviest song, in my opinion. "I Wanna Be With You" is another good song from them. I wish you guys would react to another great power pop song called "I'm on Fire" by the Dwight Twilley Band, who's from Tulsa. I've requested it several times. It made it to number 16 on the Billboard top 40 in 1975. Dwight Twilley and Tom Petty were great friends, and on the same record label, Shelter Records out of Tulsa. The Raspberries, Badfinger and the Dwight Twilley Band are all examples of '70s power pop at its finest.
Lord have mercy this song is amazing. Thank you❤
I LUV to see younger kids hearing 70's music for the first time. The writing and the instrumentation is SO much better than today's Pop music!
Anything is better than todays music. The music died in 2000 and hasn't recovered since.
This is what I like best about the older music, most of them go from slow and soft to fast and rockn and back again!!! Love it!
My era, Eric Carmen one of the great singers of my era. Another one is Level 42 Something about you is fire 🔥
Or Lessons In Love - both great.
They definitely gotta check out Level 42. Mark King on bass!!
I love Level 42. I'm from California but spent most of 1986 in London. The World Machine soundtrack was playing everywhere (including my Walkman CD player).
Love Carmen's voice. Love the transitions. Love the whole song throughout. Very popular back in the day.
The transitions reflect real life with its strong and soft sides. Great song.
"I Wanna Be With You" is their most Rockin' Song and IMO, their best song.
Ah! It's sweet beautiful music and lyrics about young love. What else can stir the soul like this beautifully performed and produced masterwork!
Eric Carmen, Born in Cleveland, lived in a nearby city that I lived in for a while, Mentor, Ohio. The band was actually formed in Mentor. GO BROWNS!!!
...And we listened to them on WIXY 1260, CKLW, 1220 WGAR, later The Buzzard Powerhouse WMMS 101FM Cleveland, OHIO! Gotta Get Down Damnit.
Looooove this song!!!❤
Also check out the Raspberries' "Overnight Sensation" and "Tonight" -- the first is a beautiful power pop ballad, and "Tonight" is power pop perfection.
Rest in music, Eric Carmen -- a gifted songwriter, arranger, and performer.
That drop to the softer part was what made this song iconic and memorable when it was released. And it still stands up well all these decades later. Enough to be part of the soundtrack for a major motion picture!
And then the lyrics.....5 young kids singing along in the back seat and not having any clue what "go all the way" might be implying. Mom had a struggle but ended up singing alone while dad just drove....LOL! Oh those dang memories!
Ha, ha, how true! I had my first date, which was a double date at the age of 16 in 1974 (roller skating and ice cream) and this song was blasting on the car radio. I thought I was going to die, LOL!! Such innocent times, but I would not have changed anything! 😊
@@debbiepochy6751 same here! Wouldn't even wanna know what the lyrics were saying. And a prepubescent me was able to hit those nice smooth higher notes. But today I could to bass for choir 😁😁😁
Hi Kids! This is NOT the original recording!! It has been remastered and is no where near as clean as the original ... sorry you had to hear it this way! :(
Raspberries were a POP ROCK band
Listen to Let’s Pretend by Raspberries. One of my all time faves!!!!
Trivia. The song "Go All The Way" was banned in England for awhile for its "suggestive" content.
Excellent choice. Early power pop, and a lead singer with an amazing voice.
I wanna be with you ,,,,is their best song...RIP Eric carmen
Saw the title and immediately thought of a similarly named 80’s New Wave hit by the band Sly Fox (the title is “Let’s Go All the Way”. Worth checking out when you want a fun 80’s tune with a great beat!
Love that opening guitar riff! Great tune! Saw Eric at our local state university back in the day. Thanks!
When I heard this song in the 70s, for years I was convinced it was Paul McCartney and Wings. And I thought, McCartneys getting better.
AWESOME post-Beatles pop, in the vain of Badfinger! Love it! I have a short list of perfectly constructed pop songs, and this is one of them.

One Of the first power pop songs ever.
All parts were good! The rocking and the vocals. See the Rasberrys "I wanna be with you"
This was my favorite song, his voice is swoon worthy.❤ the rocking part was awesome. My favorite solo song of Eric Carmen is...... yep you guessed it "Hungry Eyes". Love it still today.❤
Gettin back to my teenage years; this song was one of the first 45s I ever bought; the other being The Spinners “I’ll be Around”.
As a 9 year old kid I was into the Jackson 5, the Archie's and Partridge Family and while listening for my favorite songs I heard this song and was a rock and roller for life!!!!!! Thank you Eric Carmen and the Raspberries for opening my eyes (and ears) to some of the greatest music ever produced
I totally forgot about this song’s existence. This is a great song.
When the Beatles broke up in 1970, the hunt was on for bands that had that "Fab Four" sound and the two best were Badfinger and the Raspberries. "Go All the Way" from 1972 was the Raspberries first hit and they it followed up with several more fine singles, including "I Wanna Be With You", "Let's Pretend", "Tonight", "Ecstasy", and "Overnight Sensation."
I seem to recall a video from American Bandstand for this song. As I type this, Eric Carmen, lead singer for the group, passed away on 11 March 2024 at home.😢
One of my all time favorites🥰
This song was all over AM radio when I was a kid in the early 70’s. Fantastic power pop.
and on daytime television at least once😂
Overnight Sensation is another great song by the Raspberries.
Hearing this song gave me instant flashbacks of summer vacation as a kid, hanging out at the Dog n Suds listening to the outdoor sound system. I checked, and sure enough, it was released in July of 1972 when I was 7. Such happy memories.
If you want a fun follow up song from this group, go with "I Wanna Be With You". Just fun power pop. Nothing more or less.
That riff! 😍 And yeah, Eric Carmen is a musical genius! For years I thought the opening section of this and the main chorus were two different songs. Only in recent years that I find out they were one and the same.
Its got that 70s rock guitar and a 50s background vocals. It works !
Such an under-appreciated band
Hilarious!! Haven’t seen Jay this confused since Rock Lobster!!
Excellent reaction!!
Jesus!! Jordan has such a Simplistic One-Dimensional mind & musical taste.
My favorite band’ The Moody Blues the Story in Your Eyes, you need to hear. Yes, I like the Raspberries too.
I have suggested The Moody Blues, not sure why they're not near top of their list but oh what a treat when they finally get to them! So far they've only done Nights in White Satin, I believe. . Sooooo much more is out there from them. I'd stick to their releases prior to 1980 😊
This is one of my favorite songs from the 70s. When it came on the radio, I would stop whatever it was that I was doing, just so I could fully listen. And your listeners always provide great background and trivia. 😊
I was graduating from high school in '72 and this song was on repeat! Eric Carmen, RIP.
That is what makes the song great. It's got that rocking part in those sweet hooks. This pop song takes you on a roller coaster ride. You go swooping down that hill and then it's slowly brings you up for another big swoop. It's easy to stay on one track put the bride is more fun than they can switch back and forth between lanes
In 1972, I was 13 years old when this song came out and growing up in Northeast Ohio. I listened to this tune literally thousands of times (still do). When I found out these guys were from Cleveland, it made me believe anything was possible. I still believe Etric Carmen had one of the greatest voices ever for rock ‘n roll and guitar player Wally Bryson made them rock! Jim Bonfanti was / still is an excellent drummer and Dave Smalley was a rock solid bass player. Their harmonies were as good as The Beatles & The Beach Boys and The Who had nothing on them when they decided to kick it up a few notches. What more could you ask for at 13?
Eric Carmen's voice is such a beautiful treat! Check out the Raspberries 'Ecstasy and 'Tonight', both great songs a bit more on the rock side. The Raspberries are credited with the 'power pop' sound.
Also you should check out the Hollies: 'Ling Cool Woman' and 'the Air That You Breathe'.
