    Should tournaments be playing loud music for the fans? Madrid WTA match today between Baptiste and Saville... they had a very loud concert going near the court and they had to play through the second set with that distraction. That concert was very loud!
    Can't wait to use this serve information this weekend!

      A local tennis club plays has speakers on every court playing loud music. It's very annoying b/c you can't hear your opponent calling out or the score.

    I practice flat serves out wide, I use the mini cones and try to hit them. I use a flat serve out wide in doubles, but I will practice the slice serves my next practice. Thank you Coach Nick

      Omg, he really threw the ball so far to the right most guys wouldn’t even reach there with their wing span. And the other player, as soon as he saw the crazy toss, he knew he had to go right, but it still wasn’t enough. Monster serve really.
      My usual hitting/match partner often throws the ball too much to the right, but I never have to anticipate the extreme slice, because he can’t do the slice serve. Instead I can ease up, because he always nets the ball from that toss position :) On the other hand, I can curve the ball with slice, but it’s almost always a body serve. It’s very effective, but I really want to learn hitting a short angle and just can’t get the right direction.
      Btw. what happened to Opelka? He kind of disappeared from the tour.

    Andy Roddick famously said that Sinner needed "the Sampras tail" in his wide serves. “You can serve it 111 [mph] out wide, but if it’s coming straight, it’s pretty easy for the opponent to square up. “But if you have that [Sampras] thing, where it’s 108 out wide, but in the last little bit before it gets to you, it tails away and grinds against your racquet strings, it makes it a lot tougher.”
    If Sinner is not good at slicing, maybe he feels more comfortable banging it out wide at 125mph on the deuce court.

    Your content is very helpful.
    Would you please make a video that teaches how to develop directional control over the serve?
    I was originally taught that a right-handed player can move their serve more leftward in the service box by adding progressively more slice to the serve. Conversely, I was taught that a right-handed player can move their serve more rightward in the service box by hitting more flat. So, I don’t understand how to hit a flat serve in the left side of the service box, nor a slice serve in the right side of the service box.
    Thank you.

    Hey Nick, great video and big fan of the channel. I have a question I’m sure a lot of other people struggle with and wondered if you had any insights. I’ve been on a pretty bad losing streak recently, losing matches with very uncompetitive score lines, many of which were completely winnable- but I can’t figure out why I’m losing. I’ve fine tuned and fixed my technique and am very consistent, I play with high intensity and split step, I understand court geometry so I know where to stand and I make an effort to always hit to big and consistent targets, and I even pay attention to momentum and monitor my rhythm. And yet, somehow I still keep losing all these winnable matches. How do I learn to pull it all together and finally get over the hump?

    Great tip about standing close to the centre line to get slice on the ad court. I've been writing about this since the 2000s. It's the principal reason Sampras' serve is a level above many of his contemporaries and modern players. An example, this is clearly something Alcaraz did not work on growing up, and is now proving an issue at elite level.

    Naive question: can a wet court and ball neutralize the spin?

    • @IntuitiveTennis
      @IntuitiveTennis  2 месяца назад +1

      Wet hard court will generally make the ball bounce lower or not at all. The curve can also be negatively affected.

    What people fail to understand is every serve doesn’t to have a name. Yes there’s flat slice and kick, but there also everything in between. It’s just a serve man.
