    Johnny Ramone told every kid in the world to just get a guitar and play. The Ramones put RnR back where it belonged, into the hands of the kids.

      That is a good point. Johnny proved that it isn't virtuosity that makes you good, it is good songs. He wasn't the best guitar player in the world..but he was the best at what he did. He 'served the song' better than just about any guitar player I can think of. Also, to add on what you said... He showed young kids that you don't have to be intimidated by the guitar or any other musican instrument. Once you have it in your hands, magic can happen if the songs are there. He might not have been the best technical players, but he was definitely one of, if not the most important guitar players to ever live.

    My babysitter dragged me to my first Ramones show in 1979 at keene st college iI was 10. I had the privilege to meet Johnny back in early 90's in Northeast. He was sooo kind. I also met CJ who was my age and new. Monty Melnick was very cool too. I went back stage several times those years. not once was I ever mistreated or that kind of "groupie" thing.i was treated like I was a lil sister. very protected. I regret that in those 2 tours I never got to meet Joey. I know now having been a nurse for 15 yrs. I was a young mother. Children are infectious and Joey was already sick. I get that. My second backstage visit I showed up with a tattoo on my upper thigh (93). I only did it thinking long and hard. Its permanent. RAMONES or something only ramones fans would know. simple Greco-Roman tat...'no melnicks" and yes 20 yrs later at the lake someone often approaches me cuz of the tat and says "hey, ur a Ramones fan". the guy who took me backstage was always VINCENT MANCINI a really tall tough guy. he would call me and tell me dates and addresses n lodging, cuz a couple times johnny said "she drank HOW many?" then it was comped and next time I was checking coats or getting their take outs. Mancini and i had some fun as my small 5 ft frame and he would just carry me round like a ragdoll on his shoulders. and I hope he wasn't one listed in 9/11. he was going for his firefighting cert at the time. Johnny and Mancini got such a kick outa that tat and Melnick blushed like a teen boy. I learned so much those summers. I was in paralegal school. each member had a different political view, so I listened and learned. Johnny was devoutly conservative and we talked, as too was my father. Marky, a libertarian, and then Joey a democrat. I got REEMED with info and loved every minute of it. Those summers I hold dear to my heart. Johnny especially shaped my political views. Johnny was always proper. I sighed when dee dee died from an OD. I mourned when Joey passed from Luekemia. I was inconsolable when John Cummings passed from prostate cancer. I felt like I lost a good mentor. I hold dear to me those 2 summers. That I learned so much from guys 18 yrs my senior. that I was treated so kindly and respectfully especially by Johnny. i'll never forget it.

      by all means, if you're gonna get a tat, get one you love. wear it proud. as Charlie Daniels said, "you can be loud here and be proud" if I ever get one, it'll be the 'stamp' emblem on the front of 'THEWHO LIVE AT LEEDS'.on my left forearm , at an angle like the album angle. when the deluxe edition came out which has the song 'tattoo', I really leaned towards getting it.

    They were right about Johnny hanging on for this show to happen before he slipped away. It is pretty crazy that he died 2 days after this show. Not even 48 hours after. Yet he was as tough as nails and was doing phone interviews right before show time. Dude was THE man.

    As a kid in the 90’s I always randomly heard Blitzkrieg Bop on the radio but never knew who sang it. It wasn’t until 2002 I got my first Ramones cd (Ramones Mania) at a thrift store for $5 because I saw it had Blitzkrieg Bop on it. I listened to every song and became completely obsessed with the band. I bought every cd, learned every song on guitar and started dressing like them, mainly Johnny because he was my idol. After a few months of becoming a super fan I remember trying to save up money so I could see them live. I don’t remember how I found out but when I learned that Joey and Dee had already passed I was devastated, but I kept my head up in hopes of still meeting Johnny some day. When the news broke that he passed in 2004 it was like a punch to the heart, I cried so hard that day 😭

    Richie was the drummer, songwriter and even sang songs for the LP's Too Tough To Die, Animal Boy and Halfway to Sanity. He wrote "Somebody Put Something In My Drink", for the band and other tunes. He also sang backup vocals and did live vocals. Richie started with the band during the Subterranean Jungle tour, when Marc/Marky was out of the band.

Anyway I love Johnny Ramone too. This is really a doc based on Ramones'life than Johnny. It's cool!! and Linda is taking care of his legacy and I am glad about that actually.

    In allot of interviews of people talking about The Ramones I hear them say they were funny to watch. Some even say they were like a joke band. From the first time I saw them I was blown clear away and thought they were the greatest band ever. I never ever get the joke about this band.

    • @martinichip8969
      @martinichip8969 10 лет назад

      I think it was because they were so serious as performers but their lyrics were so extreme that it was incredibly funny. Loudmouth, beat on the brat, I don't wanna x, etc. They cathartically say what we all want to say but never do so that becomes funny. I mean, here comes a band that says it all unabashedly and seriously. The juxtaposition is quite funny.

    • @martinichip8969
      @martinichip8969 10 лет назад +3

      And I think in the beginning they were a bit awkward with the starts and stops on the songs, arguments on what to play next, and Joey falling over his own feet... I wish I saw it! Sounds hilarious (unintentionally).

    • @godfatherNYC
      @godfatherNYC 9 лет назад

      Martini Chip Yeah, if you see the very very first videos of them they honestly seem pretty ridiculous. (I'm pretty sure there's one of them doing "Loudmouth" that seems pretty weak.) They improved A LOT in a very short time, though. They definitely became one of the fiercest live bands you'd ever see. I saw them a bunch of times while Dee Dee was still in the band and they were AWESOME.

      "my ass. Democrats are OK with late-term abortions and war whenever “their guy” is in office. FFS, the DNC is trying to put forth an Alzheimer’s patient for President"
      Hey pssst. I'm no us citizen ok ? It's gonna blow your mind but Usa is just a "small" country and i'm talking about the world regarding ethic/moral and politics in general. I know that true leftism (not liberalism you dumb dumb) will always take care of the modest and the less rich working people. That's a basic i know about, because of free health care, free education, justice for all (and not justice only for who pays millions for a good lawyer etc...).
      "Finally, before you accuse me of being a Trump fan (as if that could shut down an argument), realize I’m not."
      Oh please tell me who is your political role model it's gonna be rich :)
      "FFS, the DNC is trying to put forth an Alzheimer’s patient for President"
      Trump is more dangerous than that tho, please tell me what sucks regarding this scumbag, prove it to me you don't like him.

    It's so weird, but almost nobody can do a very good Ramones cover. The Ramones just sounded so unique, that even great bands just can't do a good cover IMHO. I mean, the RHCP covers in this video are DREADFUL. Even Metallica, who I LOVE, don't sound good playing Ramones' covers to me.

      It is a tribute they are not trying to exactly clone the sound of the Ramones, just to show their influence. For an example of the same principle in reverse listen to 'Acid Eaters', an album of the Ramones doing covers in tribute of bands that influenced them. Most of the Ramones covers sound weak compared to the originals as well. I think this principle is constant among 'tribute' and 'cover' albums. Looking at your profile pic I see you are a Misfits fan. Project 1950 from the Misfits is another example of an all tribute/cover album that sounds pretty weak.

    My first Ramones show was in '83 when I was about 13. My MIND WAS BLOWN. Once Dee Dee handed me a pick from the stage. I still have it, in a frame with a nice B&W Ramones photo. Once Dee Dee left, I stopped going to see them. I couldn't stand them with that loser CJ on bass. Later I met Dee Dee in NYC and had a really nice chat with him. He was SO friendly to me. Coolest Rock Star ever. Well, Joey was too. :)

      Apdm I agree. he played peace keeper and if it weren't for that and the youthful energy he brought to the band, they might have self destructed after dee dee left rather than carrying on for the last 7 years...and those last 7 years were very important because they were able to play and inspire the next generation of 90s kids. wish I was 8 or 9 years older (I'm 29) so that I could have seen them live. RIP boys.

    Rock N Roll is a CONSTANTLY EVOLVING art form but some artists/bands/musicians are SEMINAL in that evolvement... Black Guitar Blues - Elvis Presley - The Beatles -The Ramones - *ALMOST EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENED AFTER THE RAMONES!!!* The Ramones were GROUND BREAKING in what they did and PARTICULARLY in what they inspired in other/later rock artists. They were the TEMPLATE for most forms of Modern Rock Music... MILLION SELLING bands of today like U2, Nirvana, Green Day, The Strokes, The Killers, the list goes ON AND ON AND ON, would not EXIST were it not for The Ramones... (The Ramones advocated an ATTITUDE that ANYBODY with a belief, a sense of purpose and a certain ATTITUDE could DO IT!!! It's just going to take a lot of work!!!) The Ramones changed the future of Rock N Roll... xx SF
