    I loved this film and will watch it over and over. Rory Kinnear is an amazing actor, they both are, but Rory plays most of the male parts and brilliantly, including most together in a pub scene. It features glorious shivers up spines and the highly unexpected, plus unique extreme effects to bodies, including becoming the Green Man. It is a parable, within a folk tale, within a nightmare.

    It seems themes are drawn from the saying "all men are alike" in a psychological, possible sci-fi approach. Garland does a fantastic job at shedding light on truths grounded in reality and meshing them with hypothetical truths; often checking off boxes that classify his work as sci-fi, while establishing new trends that raise the genre as a whole. There is a reason that sci-fi enthusiasts love his work.

      Pretend me and you film a movie and it’s actually a masterpiece. And then we show the film to a few people , and they tell us this is good and they can help us get our movie in theaters and make us rich ! That’s where A24 comes in. They take our movie (masterpiece) and distribute it. Done . Me and you made the movie. A24 didn’t do a damn thing . They just distributed the film . • @davids7009
      @davids7009 2 года назад

      @@bombjelly5795 But it wasn't. It was just overly pretentious attempting to be deep but instead came off as dumb.
      Trying to make the most brutal horror movie imaginable isn't original. It's been overdone. People like Clive Barker and contemporaries already pushed those limits decades ago.
      That's why I said the Wicker Man was better because in that film there was a greater degree of mystery and surprise in the ending. Less predictable. Also more interesting and believable.
      Most of the film (midsommar) is an attempt to shock you with one thing after another. But if you've seen a lot of horror, nothing in there's that shocking. Standard run of the mill.
      There wasn't enough psychological terror in the film. I didn't feel on the edge of my seat with tension. This has little to do with jump scares. It's just one of those things you come to expect in horror. Hell even the old victorian novels had this. Edgar Allan Poe is scarier, and his stories are what 150+ years old?
      I think part of it has to do with it being filmed all during daytime. It's pretty hard to make a sunny day seem threatening, especially if combined with wide open spaces and lush vegetation.
      Typically you expect the opposite in horror: Darkness, desolate landscapes and small cramped confined spaces.
      However....there are exceptions.
      I think if you can make your story sufficiently bizarre enough and it can creep people out that it works. But these kinds of stories tend to work better if "everything seems normal but isn't" kinda thing. Think Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, etc.
      I actually think the easiest fix to the plot would have been to make the cult more normal and wholesome and familiar on the surface in the beginning. They kinda gave away too much early on by having her tripping within 1st 30 minutes of the film.
