  • Here's a step by step example showing how to implement the steepest descent algorithm in Matlab. I use the command window rather than write an m file so you can see every step.

Cool stuff, helpful for path planning. Thanks man

The d here, can it be assumed to be the learning rate?

Very very helpful video. After spoiling us with this treat, please consider explaining the other popular optimization techniques in a similar way (theory + MATLAB implementation) as well. On to the next 'Applied Optimization' video.

lets say i have my banana function having x, y and xy variables? it says undefined xy variable how do i deal with that?

Why is the dot element wise operator needed for the function? We are evaluating the function point by point manually, so some array-like operation never occurs in my opinion.

That "d" value is what would be considered the "step size" right?

I'm using my own book. It's called Fundamentals of Optimization: Methods, Minimum Principles and Applications for Making Things Better. It's published by Springer, but is also available on sketchy download sites around the world 😀
