- Alex Phillips is asked by Talk viewer Paul about her opinion on Halal meat.
Halal meat is central to Islam, based on principles of humane animal slaughter the same way Kosher meat is prescribed in Judaism.
However, traditional methods without stunning have been criticised by animal welfare groups as cruel.
While UK and European laws require stunning before slaughter, exceptions are made for halal and kosher meat.
According to the RSPCA, 65% of animals slaughtered for halal meat are stunned beforehand.

It's not just shops it's in a lot of eat out places as well....i always ask now if the meat is Halal...if yes...i just go elsewhere.
@@azenkwed When you nearly walk into a coffee shop and you see the Hala sign, I would say yes. I want to know where my meat is sourced. At least I know I can eat bacon.
I ask at every butcher and store, ensuring I never eat HALAL.
Just look at most of the halal butchers shops, they’re absolutely disgusting, makes you wonder why health & hygiene don’t close them down. 🤔🤔🤔
Really? I have lived in many of the UK Cities and Halal meat is always of a higher quality then anything you can pickup at your Local Supermarket.

@@azenkwed all none stunned killing of animals is inhumane. But just a side Supermarkets,Take aways don't mass kill animals and advertise it as Halal for people who don't need to eat Halal.
Its the creeping islamisation of this country. Keep making exceptions and your rules and your LAWS come to mean nothing. Then of course you have lost control of your country, your life and your liberty!

All New Zealand lamb is Halal and we were swamped with it last Easter and it was cheaper then our own reared lamb. I refused to buy it. It’s disgraceful that they don’t have bigger labelling on. You only know if you have been told or looked it up yourself.

In some schools, I think you would be surprised how much of the meat on your supermarket shelves is Halal slaughtered. There is no legislation to enforce the labelling.

There was a man outside being very very friendly to my neighbours cats. He had a big empty bag for life with him and was there AGES. Fortunately my neighbour happened to see him outside and went and asked what he was doing. The guy made some excuse ,laughed a bit and walked off. Might just have been a cat lover but was there AGES.

@@LewisThomas-c5f different people do it. The will to survive is strong and then when you are used to your own way of living of course that's what you're going to do. It's not that far fetched but no big deal it will get itself straightened out I don't live there but I certainly have first-hand knowledge of strange things people will eat but they're only strange to us because we are used to farm-raised beef lamb stuff like that turkey geese got to laugh about the Christmas goose though usually don't go to the public park and fish them out of there to get your goose. Definitely leave the public geese alone😅 that's theft

I bought hallal meat once, it was mutton dressed as lamb and tasted rank.
Halal affects the taste?
You only know if its halal by reading the small print on the packet, assuming the producer is honest enough to declare it.
We do it in this country though. Both muslims and jews aren't required by law to stun animals for slaughter. Jews require a license but muslims do not which seems a tad unfair.
It should be law any company selling Halal should be forced to advertise it.

I live in Thailand and nearly everything has a halal stamp on packaging. Ok but to see it on orange juice etc is going crazy. Thailand is Buddhist but the government seems to bend over backwards to keep Islamic tourists happy.

I think you’re all confusing halal meat with kosher meat - 90% of halal meat in the UK is stunned, whereas kosher meat is never stunned.

Morality has to be separated from the financial question. It's a barbaric practice and shouldn't exist here.
