I would respectfully disagree that calibration includes adjusting an instrument. Determining and applying correction factors yes, but adjustment no.

What is the difference between correction factor and adjustment ?
In my understanding, adjustment is a physical manipulation of say a resistor or capacitor to obtain a desired readout or output from the DUT. A correction factor, a computer applied correction value stored in the DUT’s memory.
So in principle the same process used on typically older and newer devices.
And, a calibration is a verification of specifications, not necessarily including a manipulation of correction input.

You can even adjust an instrument every single time it goes for calibration. The key factor is giving the cal certificate with measured values before and after adjustment.
