So glad you loved it pal. The response at venice was crazy - kinda shocked it didn’t take the golden lion. Nice to see the love follow over to TIFF.
But yeah I was floored by the actual filmmaking of this film. Truly incredible. It’s certainly gonna be a big player next year. Hope you’re enjoying the festival. Xx

*The Holdovers was shot digitally on an Arri Alexa Mini, but they did some ingenious things to get that look by over exposing and other techniques to emulate that filmic look that was a “chef’s kiss” type of problem solving to recreate that 70s look and feel digitally.

Also, really looking forward to watching this film! I might be in a minority, but I really liked his Vox Lux feature with Natalie Portman who I thought she deserved another crack at the Oscars with another thought provoking and complex character study. It’s been far too long for Adrian to get praise and buzz once again. Hopefully this time, he doesn’t pull the same move like last time if he should win the Oscar lol

Brady Corbet is a super underappreciated actor, but with films like The Childhood of a Leader and Vox Lux, I believe his directorial career will be one for the ages..

hungarian jew here. Both sets of my grand parents were totally ridden with PTSD. 2 of them survived Auschwitz. One of my grandmothers was experimented on in Auschwitz. They removed and manipulated bones in her back. shocked that she survived that with no anesthetic. But her whole life she was crying. As a kid I never understood why she was always so sad. It wasn't until I got older where I started to get it. So the PTSD these people had was real. And brutal.

I just saw it at NYFF. I love this film. One of my favorite films of the year. Everything from the cinematography, the score, costumes, production design and etc. I see it being a film that people talk about for years to come.

The Holdovers was shot on digital as far as I'm aware... They employed some tricks to make it convincing mimic film. Pretty sure.

Sing Sing is the BEST MOVIE of the year and deserves nominations in most categories. The movie was shot on 16 mm film, in 19 days, with a very small crew. The DP, Pat Scola, should be nominated for an Oscar for cinematography because the visual look, the lighting, the film choice, all created the naturalistic atmosphere to tell the story. Accompanied with Bryce Dessner's score that sells the beautiful scenes and intimate facial expressions. And kudos to the director, Greg Kwedar, who allowed dialogue to be ad-libbed at times, which created the emotional essence throughout the film that tugs at your heart. The cast deserves best ensemble because 90% of the cast are the formerly incarcerated men that participated in the RTA theater program while in Sing Sing and that authenticity shines. And what can you say about Coleman Domingo.... he deserves the Oscar this year, his performance is perfectly understated, and he allows the other men to shine because this is their story. Well Done!! Also, Clarence Maclin and Paul Raci both deserve best supporting nominations. Their performances tie the strings that pull the film to its brilliance. Best movie overall in a very long time and well worth the emotional journey.

ا Thank you rayan casselman♥♥♥ for your own review about film ♥♥♥
    My own opnion the film
    part two to the pianist.
Same if aodry brodey make new part to former film.
    Part one the pianist.
    Part two the prutalist.
One film before world war and in the war.
    And
the part two after the war.
So i feel same film in two part and same role and charachter to same actor.

It makes no sense to compare it to Zone Of Interest - the two movies are very different, their topics are different, their scopes and lengths are very different, they take place in different countries, etc.

    • @RyanCasselman
      @RyanCasselman  3 месяца назад +4

@@ktom5262 in terms of Oscar talk or just a general sense?
Both have ties to the Holocaust, both don’t show the horrors from Holocaust but looms in the background and faces of the characters. Both take incredible creative swings and I saw both at TIFF and were both one of the best movies I saw at TIFF. I didn’t say the film were identical twins. So mentioning Zone made sense to me. Cheers!

Brutalist architecture is intentionally ugly communist design... is this a good movie or is every one here just rich leftists and they want more communism? It seems like it might be yet more corporate ESG score hollywood. A man gat because of the Holocaust decides we need ugly buildings? The end of beauty because the holocaust? This is why hollywood wants us to eat bugs?
