I forgot it was also called the fool's mate
I always call it scholar whenever somebody tries/pulls it off.
Edit: im a dumbass I didn't watch the video I thought she did a scholar, but it was actually a fools mate pretty rare to be able to do it after 6 turns in the match.

The first thing Kobo did after Koyori opened up for the fool's mate was pick up the queen, at 0:43. She saw it right away, and let it go for a few more turns.
EDIT: Nevermind, the pawn was still there, and could've blocked. Could've still been a quick checkmate, though, and Kobo was definitely watching it.

Kobo Kanaeru (2699) vs. Hakui Koyori (2856)
    1. d4 c5!
    2. e4 f5!
    3. c3 Nf6
    4. Nf3 Nxe4
    5. dxc5 g5
    6. Nxg5 a5!!
    7. Qh5# 1-0
    [Analysis]
    Opening:
Even before the game begins, Koyori plays mind games with Kobo by claiming that the black pieces are stronger by virtue of their appearance. Confused but undeterred, Kobo plays d4, a cultured opening move. Koyori responds with c5, an unconventional gambit offering a free pawn in exchange for rapid activity. Kobo declines the gambit and opts instead to strengthen her control of the center of the board with e4. Koyori again challenges Kobo's center pawns with f5, another gambit with an undefended pawn. She also bluffs that she is not even thinking about her moves as a show of strength. Kobo declines once more and overdefends her d-pawn with c3.
    Midgame:
Koyori brings out her horsey to add another attacker to the undefended e-pawn. Kobo also brings out her horsey. Koyori draws first blood, taking the e-pawn by moving in an L-shape. As she does so, she verbally taunts her opponent, dealing psychological damage. Kobo, enraged, strikes back by surprise attacking Koyori's c-pawn with a diagonal pawn move. Then, calculating with all the power of Stockfish, Koyori begins a kingside pawn storm with g5.
    Endgame:
Mercilessly, Kobo takes the pawn, which has only 1 defender to 2 attackers. Koyori attempts to en passant the horsey on g5, to no avail. She then attempts to snipe the c-pawn in a straight line from the bishop, not realizing that they aren't playing FPS Chess. Finally, she makes her move: a5!! Just like AlphaZero, she begins a pawn storm on the opposite side of the board. This kind of flanking maneuver is a highly advanced tactic meant to overwhelm the target by force. Unfortunately for Koyori, Kobo takes advantage of Koyori's overextended frontline and deals a fatal blow: checkmate with the queen on h5. A long-fought victory without warning, leaving Koyori shocked and in awe of Kobo's hidden genius. The chess speaks for itself.

She was waiting for Koyori to move the pawn up to g7, which she later does. • @SpottedZebra
      @SpottedZebra 2 года назад +3

If a guide actually said that about E7, this is quite what it would have meant. It's normal for E and D to advance first to take as much of the middle as you can. It's (From the white side) F and G that should stay put to guard where you'll be after castling right and H should move on the first chance that you have nothing more important to do to avoid getting cheesed by the famous "back-rank mate."

Kobo was pretty close to being checkmated herself. a few more moves, and she would have been checkmated if she didn't notice the way her own king, queen and bishop were lined up had the match continued after that move.

    • @redace4821

Kobo was nowhere near being checkmate. She was safe the whole time. Sure the position is open if black queen come out early, it just gonna get hunted by Bishop and Knight while White develops normally.

@@redace4821 oh most definitely. but thats if she had noticed. but the way they were playing ,however, she seemed beyond clueless of that opening. i mean i could be terribly wrong on that and she had planned to cover that later and neither of them expected the checkmate coming so soon, but i'm just going by observation of how they were making their moves. in all honesty i would love to have a chess match collab with them as i absolutely love chess. even played against a competitive player once and got a compliment from them, still lost in the end, but the point still stands. but they would never bat an eye at a tiny insignificant 100 sub channel like myself.

If a king has no valid moves that wouldn't result in checkmate (ie if it's blocked in by its own pieces) and it's put in check it's instantly a checkmate. Here, the queen was able to attack the king diagonally and because the king's only possible move was diagonal which would still be in the same line of attack and has no pieces that could be moved to block the attack it's checkmate.
