  • A recent rollingstock project has been tait car 472M. This car incorporates a lot of recent changes to how I build rollingstock, making extensive use of 3D printing and modular design to make building multiple cars easier. This has also considerably cut costs and improved manufacturing time. Even the wheels were custom made, the only commercial rail hardware is the micron radio and motor controller. Like all the other Australian rollingstock it is 1:24 scale, though here it is still running on 45mm gauge. The long term plan is to eventually convert it to 64mm gauge, otherwise known as gauge 3. In 1:24 this works out very close to 5'3" broad gauge of the real thing.
The tait trains were Melbourne's first purpose built electric suburban trains, entering service from 1910 as loco hauled stock and then electric when the wires went live in 1919. Some remained in service until 1984, eventually being replaced by the new comeng trains. 472M was one of four tait M cars that were modified with driving controls at both ends later in their careers for off peak and weekend service on the Hurstbridge Alamein and Altona lines. This model represents 472M towards the end of its career in the 1980's.
Two of the double ended tait M cars survive to this day, 470M has been fully restored by Elecrail.

Wonderful to have you back! I recently showed my girlfriend your videos, and she was so excited to see that you had uploaded a new one! We had to watch it immediately! Hope you're doing well, and looking forward to more videos when they come!

Thank you so much for being back with new rolling stock and a lone female passenger. Beautifully done video. I loved the butterflies, far fewer here in Canada now. Having worked at Melbourne Uni in 1964/5 I vaguely remember that type of powered unit.

Yes the train is a bit quiet at the moment, though probably not unusual for an off peak service in the 80's. I need to paint some more passengers. I'm sure you would have traveled on this type of train if you went on Melbourne suburban trains in the 60's.

This is the best model railway ever. It just looks so beautiful, cute and realistic

Most garden scale train’s I’ve seen retain a very plastic toy-like appearance. It’s amazing how good this scale looks when someone makes an effort to pack all the details in. I love the way you’ve blended your railroad in with the landscape. It must be a battle keeping all that tropical vegetation from tearing up the track. I’m not sure it could be done up here in Canada, the first frost would wreak havoc on the track and overhead!

I have special maintenance vehicles for clearing vegetation, though we're pretty far from tropical here! There's certainly a community of garden railway people in Canada from what I hear, though I don't know how different their construction methods are.

Great to see you back Sir! The Tait is a beauty! You can tell it rides nice with the sprung axles! I'd love to see a video on the drive train , as it seems to run very nicely at slow speed!
Thanks again for another relaxing and almost magical journey.
    Cheers Gregg.

It definitely makes a difference on my bad quality track. I might do one taking a closer look at some of the technical aspects in future, this one uses a new type of axle hung traction motor developed especially for more heavy duty rollingstock. So far they've been working pretty well for speed, tractive effort and most importantly low unit cost.

    • @FishplateFilms
      @FishplateFilms 6 месяцев назад +1

@@melbournesparks3828 That would be great! Using axle hung TM's is getting pretty real , and if someone made O scale locos with them , I'd swap from HO tomorrow..LOL . Your track work is pretty damn good IMO, considering the terrain and conditions, and of course the cantanery is a work of art!
      Cheers ,
      Gregg.

You're back, AWESOME!! Lovely railcar and lovely shots. Is this one runny 'dead rail' with a battery inside with a purely cosmetic pantograph? It just seems to run so smooth.

    • @melbournesparks3828

Good to see you back! I love you’re garden railway! Where do you get all of your railway equipment from? I personally use a small Melbourne distributor called ‘Argyle Loco Works’ I’d recommend you check them out if you’re interested! (They sell the live steam puffing billy!)
