Firstly Happy Father's day to Unclejee and you as well(in advance) Rajat, As for the color of Dal, same happened with me, I got my Black dal (Rani Brand) from Patel Brothers in LA, and when I washed it to prepare all the black water washed off, and the dal was green---My friend said the same happened with her , she got her dal (Deep) from one of the indian stores in Cerritos---Hum soch rahey they key yeh logon ney color chadhaya hoga--But looks like ithappened with you too, Did Auntijee get this dal from India?

Yahi same culture mere papa and dada ji ke bich bhi tha woh bhi kabhi dada ji ke samne drink karke nahi jate the kyoki bado ke samne sharab peena hamara culture nahi hai. Essa nahi hai ki kisi baat ka darr hai but i think Bado ke or hamare bich izzat ki ek line hoti hai jo humko kabhi cross nahi karni chahiye essa mera manna hai.

Black dal is originally green in color….. if you wash 4-5 times properly it will turn green . There is no problem so you can use any brand.
