I feel this is a problem innate to franchises based on serialized manga. The books go on forever, so the shows also have to go on forever, because the original author didn't want to give up his job. Unfortunatly, we seem to be amoung a rare few who tires of this very easily, which is why single-season shows like this appeal to us. Start, Middle, End, all within reach.
Having only seen clips of this, and watched a good amount of Dragon Ball Z, I fully agree. At least Gaiking characters don't take freaking forever to power up. And they knew when to stop instead of inventing new more powerful bad guys for the sake of beating a dead franchise for more money
in super robot anime the plot revolves around some kind of enemy army (usually aliens) attacking earth, plenty of enemies to fight, they didn't have to stretch a single fight into multiple episodes. Besides some series had very interest plots, with some serious themes, like Voltes V, Daimos and Daltanias.
@SMDeathwind it brought a lot of people into mecha myself included it was also mind blowing. I know where it sits on the mecha timeline, but people need to remember that religious fanbase or not it DID do some impressive shit. Gaiking is still fantastic too though. And my personal fav is GGG anyway.
Its not about how hard you hit. Its about how much you can GET HIT, and keeo moving forward. How much you can TAKE and keep moving forward. That's how real winning is done.
SRW managed to do this scene really really well, I always have goosebumps everytime I use this move

By shrinking it, he condensed the power making it even stronger, giving it the ability to burst through his enemies attack.
Combination for greatness: Giant robots, no speedlines, awesome anime effects, and of course... epic finisher move screams!
