American Workers, American Economy, and the Struggle Against COVID-19

The current public health crisis initiated by COVID-19 has thrust the U.S. economy into a moment of instability marked not only by volatile markets but also reduced hours for wage workers, pay cuts for tipped workers and those in the "gig economy", and loss of employment for many. During this study group, held on Wednesday, April 8, 2020, participants discuss the impact COVID-19 is having on American workers' economic security and livelihood. They also examine the systems currently in place to support affected workers and explore efforts to institute new forms of relief.
The study group is convened by Ash Center Democracy Fellows Johnnie Lotesta and Gali Racabi. Invited speakers include Rachel Lauter, Executive Director of Working Washington and Laura Padin, Senior Staff Attorney for the National Employment Law Project.
