    TO LEARN ABOUT BEST SOLDERING TIPS FOR JEWELRY MAKING
    Please watch my video:
    • Soldering Tips and Tri...
    Hi!!! I am making my dreams come true and finally allowing myself to learn things I have been wanting to learn for a while!!
    So this is soldering baby! Soldering jewelry has been on my bucket list for some time and I finally started it!!
    So I got my supplies from Amazon - I will try to support local shops in future, but I wanted supplies NOW so I had to get them.
    Soldering is not that hard actually and it is very meditative for me!
    I made two necklaces my first time in one go - and was ever able to set a jump ring! (with some torture - get it? lol) whatever - it is doable!
    AFTER SOLDERING FOR THE FIRST TIME HERE IS WHAT I HAVE LEARNED:
    use glasses (I got them, safety is priority)
    use better lead free wire, mine came w the iron and it was (well, shitty)
    flux paste gets all over the piece and is gooye and shoots fumes and speckles of lead at you - I would recommend using either. better quality or liquid flux
    invest in an iron - I used my cheap one for 3 times and I need a new one, the tip is all messed and it does not adhere solder to it
    i now use tip tinner - which I have learned helps to keep the tip conditioned, but I almost have no tip left - so I ll be using it once I get a better soldering iron
    use MASK - luckily (that's sounds bad) we have a lot of them laying around these days. So I was a good girl and used mask, cause, the worst your flux, solder and iron - the more fumes it will exhaust
    keep windows open
    relax and do not judge yourself - you are learning something new!
    Any way - looks like I ll be definitely making more videos or even tutorials about soldering (once I know what I am doing) and I will be sharing it with you!
    Hi :) if you want to check out my creations please visit my Etsy stores:)

    Let's do creative stuff together on this tiny piece of rock in the middle of nowhere ( I am talking about Earth).
    At the end of the day (which is also just a made up silly measure) - we have nothing to loose.
    Kisses!
    Go solder some cool stuff - I will see you later!
    Eugenia :)

    Loved your video, I’m gonna start soldering jewelry also, my bf and i together. But i read that a flat/chisel tip is much better. And having worked in electronics assembly, we used the pointed tip for much smaller projects, like teeny tiny.

    Please get some ventilation or filtration. Flux smoke is very bad stuff. If your solder is lead based you have lead fume as well. Protect yourself.

      Enjoying the video. I worked in electronics for years soldering & still have my tools. However it seems one has to use Silver solder on Silver etc, & use a torch soldered to gain higher temperatures, soi guess you are not using Silver?..

      Buy a fire extinguisher. Watch video on using one.
      Get a proper hanger for your torch. You can avoid a lot of issues by always putting the torch in the same 2 places.
      The hand and the holder.
      Pay attention to whats on the floor. Dont use a torch over say a carpet. If you drop the torch you dont want it to ruin the carpet by either catching fire or just an ugly melt mark.
      Go for it
      Cheers

    • @eugeniaedits
      @eugeniaedits  Год назад +1

      Hi Anne! Based on my experience it’s most likely the flux you are using. When I used a paste flux ( like in this video) it would always leave black spots. I switched to liquid and I don’t have any issues. I usually work at pretty high temperature cranking my iron all the way up and they don’t have any black or dark spots. I suggest switching to a liquid flux. ♥️ I hope this helps. Thank you so much for your comment. 😉✨🥰✨♥️♥️

      @madebylamodernique , thank you. I do use a liquid Flux, recommended to me by a stainglass teacher. It is called " C.A. fluid 801 the supreme soldering fluid" 30% zinc chloride 15% hydrochloric acid.?
      Some of the little black species wash of with water and dishwasher liquid, some don't?
      I will observe your starter video again today and try and see what I'm doing wrong. Thank you so much for your time, much love from Australia 💖✌️

      @eugeniaedits  Год назад +1

      Awww!! Australia! How awesome!! Sending so much love from California ♥️ I use zinc but I am not seeing what other ingredients it has. It’s water soluble. I def had that issue with paste flux. Hmmm here is the flux that I am using 8oz Liquid Zinc Flux for Stained Glass, Soldering Work, Glass Repair and more - Easy Clean Up - Made in USA a.co/d/0oDXPgy.
      Also another solution might be to lightly sand it with 1200 grid or higher sand paper and then polish with wool. This should remove any stubborn spot ♥️
      I use sanding paper to smooth spiky sharp parts that are being formed while soldering. So it does not scratch it if sand paper is very very fine🥰🥰

      Hi! Happy New Year! So there could be few things: the temperature might be a little too high, flux that you’re using might not be the right one. Also, I want to ask you if you are cleaning the tip of the Soldering Iron every time you apply solder? This might be happening because there is a build up. Also, you can try cleaning the burnt parts with alcohol. You might be able to remove dark spots.

      Hi Kim❤️ thank you so much for your comment:) this is a solder wire that feeds thru a special hole to keep solder along the side of the soldering iron. That way you have solder right there next to the tip. To be honest, I am not a fan of this design as it was difficult to feel a soldering wire thru.
      Oh, and the solder wire is released ( once you use it up) by pressing a trigger. Similar to a glue gun. I hope this helps 🙏🏻♥️☺️

I was wondering if YIHUA 926 upgrade version soldering iron would work well? I've tried a few amazon irons before and somehow the tips of it always melts off. I believe that it is the flux that I am using? Please give me your opinion, regarding this!

    • @eugeniaedits
      @eugeniaedits  Год назад +1

      Hi! Yes! So I have another video on my channel where I talk about the best iron I have found. It is pretty affordable - it costs around 53 dollars. It is AMAZING. It comes w temprature control knob and it has many tips. (the part that I think you are having issue with burning thru). So! you can have replacements should you burn thru them. So its very cost effective.
      BUT! To avoid burning thru tips you should coat your iron tip AFTER you are done soldering to prevent oxidizing. Coating is simply covering your iron tip with solder. So I suggest turning off iron once you are done and WHILE the iron is still hot (like after a min) go ahead and bring it to the soldering wire you are working it. It will melt and coat iron tip BUT since your iron is cooling off it will not drip off. So it will get stuck.
      This coating prevents oxidation that causes rust of the tip. Which eventually cause tip to have holes and not work properly.
      I hope this helps! Here is a link to the video I go in depth about the iron ruclips.net/video/-Mdg0FQ0X4I/видео.html
