    I particularly love the part at the beginning where the characters run in syncing up with the music, then the rest of the battle happens with that goddamn cube.

    Since i'm an old hardrock/metal fanboy, I actually enjoy Singa's works. They are not my most liked in the falcom OST, far from that for sure, but I don't see them as actually bad. They are just from another genre, and I don't think tracks like this one lose to works from other franchises that are of said genre.

      Gonna agree with you there, 'cause holy shit does it go *hard* at the start.

    • @Aewo
      @Aewo 2 года назад +11

      Yeah. This is just my personal assumption, but I imagine a lot of people dislike Singa's work, even the ones which I consider to be decently composed, because it's a much different style from people like Unisuga, Sonoda, Momiyama, and other people throughout Falcom's history whose songs are very melodic and have pretty traditional rhythms. A lot of Singa's battle songs have pretty erratic rhythms and a harsher guitar tone, which is a pretty big constrast compared to the heaps of other trails music and I can get that people don't like how much it sticks out. With respect to guitar, Unisuga and Jindo use much more "collected" guitar tones.
      With that said, I also agree that many of Singa's compositions and sound quality are not close to level of the other composers. Take Monstrum Spectrum, for example- It's certainly more chaotic than Unisuga's usual works, and people freaking love it. Sure, guitar is still less screechy, but imo (and probably others, too) the instrumentation and mastering is better than, say, this song or Boss Theme 4 from Kuro no Kiseki. And when it comes to sound quality and delivering large volumes of music, Singa tends to sacrifice quality over speed. It's not too rare for a town or event theme of his to just.... sound kinda compressed, aside from the mastering issues. The difference compared to others' works is noteworthy. Some of his themes are good in both composition and sound quality, definitely; but his inconsistency is a big hit to his reputation and his overall perceived quality. Compare this to Sonoda, who has historically been handed a lot of games' OST, especially when it was just him, Unisuga, and Jindo. Putting personal preference on composition and instrumentation aside for a moment, Sonoda consistently delivers high-quality sound, which puts his quality over Singa (again, personal opinion) (Also, I imagine one of the reasons they shove so much on him is because he's capable of handling such a massive workload)
      Singa definitely gets a lot of undeserved hate (and undeserved love too, yes? no?) but I can't really blame him for paying for his daughter's college tuition when Falcom has been making terrible decisions for the past few years and shattering their connections in the industry. People like to shit on him for kickboxing; I'm not gonna comment on that because I can think of that situation from lots of viewpoints, but the guy's said on his Twitter (can't find the exact tweets rn sorry) that's he's burnt out as hell, so yeah everybody needs a hobby when work isn't fun. It makes sense considering how much Falcom throws onto him.
      Singa's got skill. Sadly, he's under the shadow of many extremely beloved talents and isn't in an environment where he can put his heart and soul into his works.
      And well. I'd imagine it's easier to flat swing completely one direction on Singa rather than reflect on the history and current trends with Falcom's music. That, and, there are some very zealous Kiseki fans. So Singa gets unfathomed hate, and unfathomed devotion too.
      Anyway, I'm glad that I like hard rock. And that you do too.

      @@Aewo ngl, that one struck deep. But it goes without the saying, "If you get some like, always expect the same level of hate." There is never a light without an equal shadow to walk behind you. I see Singa in mainly a positive light cause i enjoy most of his music. While i also understand his flaws that others have been trying to slam their keyboards into other people's to realize, but its really just music in the end so the spectrum goes both ways. Not to go on a personal level or anything. o3o i honestly like this rheme greatly.

    All the critics on Singa by western and all non-Japanese fans here made me wondering ー what are the Japanese Falcom fans' opinion on Singa's tracks? Do a lot of them expressed displeasure for his tracks, if anyone knows? Why I'm wondering about this? I believe their voices are the closest to Falcom that if they made their complaints well-known Falcom will hear from them first and foremost.

    • @danielm.5078

      From what I've heard, it's a vocal critical minority on both sides (heard tell that they've review bombed OST releases-- granted even games like Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate were heavily review-bombed for things like perceived difficulty issues; Amazon JP review bombing is their equivalent of metacritic user score bombing in general).
      I think the fact his presence has only grown with time should tell people that he's sticking around; I personally think he ranges from meh to great and never had much issue with him.

    It's pretty solid overall, but man, some better lead guitar sound would do wonders for this track. It's really a shame that so many of Singa's tracks are brought down by that one aspect. I could also do without the usual EDM synth in the chorus, but that's more of a taste thing.

    The intro was good... It doesn't feel really cohesive after, it feels like it was stretched in order to reach the 2 minute mark. 7/10. If you guys see me rating, it's just a marker to know which tracks I like or dislike. Of course, you see the rating more often on the Singa ones but it's because I'm not the biggest fan of his music. Though you can see that I mostly put 7 or higher because I don't believe that his songs are complete garbage but still need a bit of polishing. I'd also like to add that you can like Singa more than I do and I won't judge, if you hate Singa's music then just say and don't be too toxic about it. I myself almost feel that by constantly saying things about Singa, I am myself feeling that I am becoming toxic. I hope that I don't feel too toxic and if you saw some of my previous comments please say if I'm too extra. Just don't confuse being toxic and expressing your opinion.

    I like this one, now who on earth is the composer?
    Can't be Sonoda, N, Jindo or Unisuga. A lot of the instrumentation feels like Singa, but at the same time I feel like something is a bit off to be him. I just don't see it for some reason. Personally, my guess (as far-fetched as it sounds) is that this is one of Koguchi's Ys IX rejects and Falcom just decided to use it here for some reason.
