Sir, let me start by saying your channel/content is 2nd to none. Your thoroughness, pace & delivery (and lack of BS/fanfare) make you an amazing instructor/teacher. Thank you for that. As well, thank you for this series. I inherited my dads “96” JD 855 when he passed in 2022. It’s a “garage queen” and only has 400+ hours on it. It lives at my dads house which belongs to my son now. We are now responsible for all of the maintenance & repairs on it. We also own a “51” Ford 8N which I am intimately familiar with but not so much with the JD 855. Your series has really given me confidence to tackle they maintenance. I subscribed after your 1st 855 video and look forward to each and every episode. Thank you for being awesome! 🙏
Thank you very much for your kind words. I worked many years as a tradesman, and part of that is to pay it forward as I was trained. By these videos, as with my apprentices over the years, I try to do that by sharing what I learned. Thank you for watching!
Enjoy watching these old beasts being brought back to life. I did the same with a 955 that i found at an auction. Came with a loader and backhoe, but you could look right down thru the engine. Luckily, i found a complete engine out of a jd fairway mower that fit right in. Added a turbo setup just for fun. It appears factory because i used all jd/yanmar parts that are used on newer fairway mowers. The new sub compacts just cant hold up to what the 55 series will do. Thanks for taking us along on your journey!
Nothing like adding boost! Must of been a potent unit for sure. The 55 series tractors are definitely more substantial than what they offer today. Thank you for watching!
Great job on the 855, it would look good in my garage LOL. Looking forward to seeing some of the old pics of the bug from when you first got it and now have it in show shape.
I have done a little restoration to my 855 recently. I repaired a hydraulic leak under the seat, where an o-ring had failed on a hydraulic fitting. I also replaced many of the selector control valve linkage parts. I also replaced the front axle shifter seals. The floor under the tractor is much dryer now...not perfect, but much, much better. I have the parts to replace the leaking front axle seals, but have not pursued it as of yet. I am sure I will need a couple of tools to do the job, (a decent snap ring plier set) and probably more parts that I don't know that I need yet. I had the same situation with the parts availability, though I could usually have the parts in a week. My Deere dealership is not nearly as close as yours, about 1/2 hour one way. Keep up the good work! I will be back. Doug
Hey Doug, nice to see you're trying to keep that 855 leak free. These units are 30+ yrs old now, and those "O" rings get dry and fail. As for the front seals I'm suspecting I might have to replace the right front on mine. I'm keeping an eye on it. Thank you for watching!
Great progress! Good that it was only a bad connection to the fuel shut off solenoid and now it opens and closes properly. Also great that the hydraulics are working smoothly after a new filter and flush. I would like to replace my hydraulic pump with a larger GPM version that's on the 955. I replaced my loader lift and bucket dump/curl cylinders with slightly larger ones for more power, the only drawback was a little bit slower cycle times, the 955's pump would give me improved loader operation for sure.
You could try shimming the pressure relief valve spring up to 2400 psi. The hydraulics are a tad slow, yes. Thanks again for watching. How To Increase Hydraulic Pressure on John Deere 755 with Relief Valve Shim Pack - MORE LIFT POWER! g.co/kgs/rmztUkD
@@cedarstoneestate Thanks for the info, when I upgraded my cylinders I did add shims to the pressure relief, if I remember correctly it is now approximately 2400 psi. It definitely gave me more lift and curl power between the pressure increase and larger hydraulic cylinder bore, just a bit slower lift and dump/curl. The 855 hydraulic pump is 5.6 gpm and the 955 7.2 gpm, if I upgraded the pump, which are expensive, it would give me faster loader operation for sure.
Sorry for the delay in answering. The lift cylinders are 1.5 in. If you increased the cylinders by .25 in you increased the volume by 35%, which is a lot more power. The 955 pump will give you 28% capability, almost back to original speed. Be careful about over stressing the unit though. Thanks for sharing your modifications!
Great job, what a wiring nightmare, i know i did a better job than that on my first eight track :). I guess i'll have to change my hyd, fluid and filter next thanks for pointing that out i don't have any issues but why wait for trouble. Keep up the good work and videos thanks for all the intel.
The John Deere beyond power kit uses pre bent steel lines, when you use hoses there is some interference with the sheet metal. My 855 uses studs with lug nuts not bolts on the front wheels. Try Tractor supply for the front wheels.

@@cedarstoneestate Nice! That would be great to be back to roughly the original speed with the improved lifting power that I have.
Nice job - Looking forward to the finished product! I'll keep my eyes out for the next episode.
Thank you! I'm working on it!
Keep the videos coming. Love these old Deere,s
Will do! Thank you for watching!
