Thats not true. As a Christian, i can pray anytime of the day. The difference between Muslims and Christians is that Christians can pray anywhere anytime and anyhow. Average Christians pray before meals, before start learning, before talking with someone something deep and so on. We even fast too. We just shouldn't make it obvious to anyone that's why we are kept out of these discussions. Jesus tells us to go in privacy when we want to pray so we can ask for a room if possible but not required. The same is for other religious groups. My school in the 80s was multicultural by default cause was in Aston in Birmingham. I'm not aware that it took any particular pains on the school's part to get us all hanging out together. Kids naturally wish to be friends with each other
Unfortunately, Muslims generally do not want to mix with 'unbelievers'. The problem is that many Muslim children don't take it that seriously, but there is a real push these days from the more devout Muslims to make them toe the line. Hence why it is different now from the 1980s.
My 60/70s high school had one Muslim, Abdul, and one Jew, Ben. Great lads. They were excused the morning assembly which was Church of England based, with hymns, prayers, and a bible reading. I joined them as I declared I was Atheist, which caused some consternation. ( I bought two tickets off Ben for a concert because he couldn't go, which is how I managed to see Led Zeppelin in 1971 for the princely sum of £1 = $2 or so. Thanks, Ben! )

She is doing exactly the opposite of what you state. She is making everyone appear to be the same when they're not. That just means those kids see the others as different. Teaching involves understanding and empathy involvement and inclusion. She is doing the exact opposite of what she is saying. If you have a school with lots of different kids and cultures, you have them understand differences as well as similarities

There are times when it's fine to glory in your differences and there are times when you should simply go with the flow without constantly harping on your separateness and demanding special treatment. Integration/multiculturalism does not work if you ignore differences, instead you create 'groups' who don't mix or come together. She is in a position of power with a unique opportunity to teach kids about each others values and cultures. Instead she chooses to squash individuality and inclusion. If she had kids in the school bullying, that was a teaching moment! You don't ban things that never helps anything. I was surprised that Katharine was pro faith based schools. I'm a retired teacher with nearly 40 years experience and believe that, If we want great education in the UK we need great educational leaders like Katherine. I think it is absolutely wrong that we have faith based schools in this country in 2024. Schools should be not just for learning knowledge but also for social integration. Children who have immigrant parents who don't want their offspring to integrate can use faith schools as a means of isolating their children from the world - especially girls. Just for this one reason faith based schools should be banned and religion removed totally other than religious education teaching children what religion is and the differences - nothing more. We used to read Zuhr/Asr + Juma'ah in the science room because our Muslim teacher took full responsibility for the state of the room. We knew that and would make sure we left everything better than it was because we didn't want him to get into trouble. I have read Salah in college and university, but these threats fall flat when one is challenged to look in the eyes and repeat it. Make all the threats you want to us, but do not be like street dogs that take off the moment they are confronted.

I think she is targeting all groups, not just muslims. As for muslims, we can be pragmatic - kids can pray off school premises if they are allowed to leave, or during their lunch breaks. They can ask the teachers for premission or find a quiet room, again with permission. Kids can learn to carry water for ablution, etc. If praying in a group like Jummah is not premitted, then pray Zuhr. Things like that, as long as we don't take liberties or take a mile when they give an inch.

My 60/70s high school had one Muslim, Abdul, and one Jew, Ben. Great lads. They were excused the morning assembly which was Church of England based, with hymns, prayers, and a bible reading. I joined them as I declared I was Atheist, which caused some consternation.
( I bought two tickets off Ben for a concert because he couldn't go, which is how I managed to see Led Zeppelin in 1971 for the princely sum of £1 = $2 or so. Thanks, Ben! )

She is doing exactly the opposite of what you state. She is making everyone appear to be the same when they're not. That just means those kids see the others as different. Teaching involves understanding and empathy involvement and inclusion. She is doing the exact opposite of what she is saying. If you have a school with lots of different kids and cultures, you have them understand differences as well as similarities

This is a very good headmistress and wise in her dealing with a complex situation. Sounds like it is the Islamic folk who are threatening her and her staff.
I am disgusted that this sort of terrorism (death threats, etc) and attempted brainwashing is so often happening and not been prohibited by government legislation.
This Headteacher is a very successful one - she should be allowed to carry on running her school her way. If there are any parents of children at her school who do not like that then they have the choice to take their child away from that school and find one more suited to their needs. END OF STORY.
The families know the school's ethos and policies before signing on the dotted line, so to speak. The issue of a prayer room can be dealt with via dialogue.
I'm a retired teacher with nearly 40 years experience and believe that, If we want great education in the UK we need great educational leaders like Katherine. Her way isn't the only waylay any means, but it is her way and it works. parents get a choice. If they don't like it they can walk with their feet.

I think it is absolutely wrong that we have faith based schools in this country in 2024. Schools should be not just for learning knowledge but also for social integration. Children who have immigrant parents who don't want their offspring to integrate can use faith schools as a means of isolating their children from the world - especially girls. Just for this one reason faith based schools should be banned and religion removed totally other than religious education teaching children what religion is and the differences - nothing more. It really make me sick.

@bordedup546, the term "independent" is too broad. Should we prohibit "independent thoughts" that unicorns are real and Jewish people drink blood? Absolutely, 100%. This is why we established schools - to educate the younger generation about the fundamental principles of how the universe and society function. There's little room for "independence" when it comes to basic truths like 2 × 2 = 4. Always!

What an exceptional headteachr. I left the profession 8 years ago but she could get me back in the classroom. I'd work for her.

We used to read Zuhr/Asr + Juma'ah in the science room because our Muslim teacher took full responsibility for the state of the room. We knew that and would make sure we left everything better than it was because we didn't want him to get into trouble. I have read Salah in college and university, but these threats fall flat when one is challenged to look in the eyes and repeat it.
Make all the threats you want to us, but do not be like street dogs that take off the moment they are confronted.
@moizjatt, - Except for the threats Islamists have made, and perpetuated, since at least the early 2000s, in the UK (all reported on in the MSM, and posted on social media and You Tube, for Islam to rule us. Protest and demonstration, if peaceful, is one thing, but certain more, let's call them 'proactive', factions in any group will destroy and degrade the impetus of the movement. Can't be denied.
I don't agree with threats being made to anyone on any side, except if when a country is forced into open war, being made to any one, but there are limits. If we can't come to an accomodation, all there remains are threats, empty or otherwise, based on fear, doubt and ignorance, on both sides.
I am sorry they were made to the children, the school and Ms. Birbalsingh, but I can't believe that they came from only one section of society, as it stands. I don't need to be specific, but you should know the groups I am referring to. And, yes, many of them are loudmouth cowards. It's the more radicalised ones within those that need watching out for. I think she is targeting all groups, not just muslims. As for muslims, we can be pragmatic - kids can pray off school premises if they are allowed to leave, or during their lunch breaks. They can ask the teachers for premission or find a quiet room, again with permission. Kids can learn to carry water for ablution, etc. If praying in a group like Jummah is not premitted, then pray Zuhr. Things like that, as long as we don't take liberties or take a mile when they give an inch.
