I gotta say 56 mph is a very respectable number for the trx6 and in my experience, the road to extreme speed gets exponentially more difficult with each mph gain so work hard with minimal expectations, and the positive results will slowly come into view. by the way, this is a crazy fun project
I think I now know what I'm going to do with my TRX6 AMG63! Thanks for the ideas Josh and Matt. Also Josh, I have a large format vinyl cutter if you haven't already lined up someone local. 🤙🏼
Looks like the tire choice has been made. Food for thought are the Arrma Infraction Hoon tires. Super lightweight but maybe a little short. I'm looking at them now compared to the stock merc tires
Man you have got some mad computer skills with those design programs. I love how you can just think up an idea and then literally materialize it just as you envisioned it. I too enjoy thinking up things like that but I've always been limited in my ability to get the idea out of my head and into reality. Usually I just take a chunk of plastic and hand carve/machine it into what I need. It never quite turns out how I visualized it but for the most part they are functional. One of these days I need to just make the effort to learn some basic cad skills. Don't want to get a 3d printer until I figure out how to design my own pieces. I know I could print things off predesigned files but like you I would enjoy it more taking it from my own head to final product. Can't wait to see how the rest of your aero work comes together. These Mayhem series are so fun to follow. 👍
i would try a small wing on the front edge of the bonnet because that Mercedes body is not the most aerodynamic and the lip on the front edge of the roof effectively catches the air coming along the bonnet
Nice work! The aerodynamic package is looking good, when you get the rear portion done we'll know it's significance. Have you considered CNC cutting delrin spur gears? I was also wondering if you could use a GPS speedometer to check the accuracy of the Traxxas telemetry? Great stuff 👍 and good luck!
Underside sticker: " Humble pie isn't terrible" Or "There are worse things than "Humble pie" I'm surprised by the minimal gain going from 3s to 4s . Seems odd. Keep it up , this is my favorite monthly mayhem so far. The restrictions make it such a close heated battle.
With the taller tires(lifted it up) and air-dam...maybe you created more of a "brick in the wind" effect. I'd rather have the belted tires. At least I could dial in the rig better with the consistency.
I think you guys need to do a monthly mayhem in which there is zero 3-D printing. We want to see you guys actually fabricate something. Rig is looking good though. Im feeling like for both of you, on your last hit, at the end of the series there happens to be a 6' fly ramp at the end.
The air dams ..... Well I will say a smoother brick? Not sure without smoke tests if they are worth extra drag. Haven’t seen any weight removal as is the first thing done in 1:1 for more speed
I remember with the x01 you had to sign a waiver to unlock the full potential on the app. It would limit it to 60mph. Maybe something like that is going on?
The OMG is looking Rad. So far you get the styling points for monthly Mayham . I was wondering if you can 3-D print custom spur gears to help in dialing in the gearing?
You might want to check and make sure all your remote settings are correct! It would suck to lose, then inapplicably have a litter robot show up at your house lol
If you guys are going to do more speed builds one of you should build a wind tunnel for the extra edge. Aero isn't really an area that guessing is your best friend. It's far easier to make things worse than better. Just dont ask the kid with the whale tail on his civic. He may think otherwise lol.
Wow surprised.. I thought Matt was sandbagging but we see you are ....ya need steel spurs gear 20 or 22 tooth pinion gear ...so what if you smoke the motor ya got to go for it....I got a 45 tooth steel spur gear if you need it ... drop me a line will send over night from AZ....
I'm blown away with where you are now. She's looking and preforming "super hot". This is VERY SELLABLE. I would REALLY like to see what you could do with the Arrma Felony.
I wonder if all four cells are working on that 4s battery, since the speed was basically the same as the 3s speed runs. Did you check the voltage or try a different 4s battery?
Are you using the traxxas gps or the onboard algorithms to determine speed? Try an onboard gps device to verify that the application isn't wrong. You may also want to consider opening the rear window. Parachuting may be occurring and that air may need somewhere to go. Cheers!
I may have missed the clarification. But are the new tires a overall smaller diameter? That’s is probably one of the easiest ways to alter the overall gearing for top speed.
Hey, can I buy that mount off you? Like shapeways or sth? I run a monster x and have the rpm mount for it, which works with that esc’s mounting points.
Might want to check to make sure you didnt accidentally hit that locker switch again. lol. There has to be some binding in the gear train somewhere. Maybe take a peak at your diffs and trans? Might be worth checking the motor RPM if that is possible to see if it is going up like it should with the 4s.
@@HarleyDesignsInc Matt hit 57 on 3s and I think he was on the same gearing. Makes me think it isnt a gearing issue. I suspect those unbelted tires are rubbing something. Either tire to tire on the rear or your bottom plate or aero skirts. flip it on its lid and gun it to see if anything is rubbing. I did see on a hi speed conversion elsewhere where the tires started rubbing the chassis plate on a buggy.
How does that app measure speed? I am assuming it is based off RPM since there is no GPS module. Your final drive ratio is probably way off from an XO-1 so you are most likely getting false speeds on that app.
Hmm. Not sure how the Traxxas app is determining top speed. It might be based on motor RPM, but not really taking into account total gearing? Maybe try an independent GPS based test???
This truck has adjustable gyro built in that is programmable in the app. However going straight is actually pretty easy with this truck so I have it turned off.
Josh, quit buying vinyl stickers, just get your wife a hobby cutter such as a Cricut. Works like a plotter with a blade. My wife has become very talented at making multicolor iron-on decals emblems for the masks 😷 she makes.
If your going up agaisnt a truck with belted tires and yours isn't belted you will lose i think. Its to hard to control a truck at high speeds without belted tires.
I think your aero work may be holding it back. Should have another test run on previous runs specs and see how it fairs. Only theory I can find too explain that larger diameter tires and more power didnt translate to more speed. Maybe restricted the airflow too much. And defo need flush screws on all the aero parts smooth is your friend all those screw heads proud of the surface cant be doing airflow any favours
Only thing that was different was the tires and the speed on 3s was exactly the same. Being that they are a heavier package, I think they could have been more detrimental than the aero so I don't expect that the aero caused any downsides. It is more likely that the aero is just a net zero effect as opposed to anything else. I'll be testing the lighter weight wheels and tires again and seeing if everything increases.
@@HarleyDesignsInc excellent really looking forward to see how it progresses! Top work so far matey! And can I say loved the current wheel/tire package looks wise suited the build perfectly! 😁👍
3S to 4S.... TWO MPH!!?? 😲😳 Too bad that App doesn't tell you Motor RPM. You got it, you're likely over geared. You can belt tires with duct tape, turn them inside out tape them, single stage foam will help mitigate foam expansion.
Very interested in seeing whet the lighter wheel setup does. I think does solid axles will reward you with even more confident handling too ;-)

are you POSITIVE the diffs are unlocked? *haha*
What's the song in the background???
Melted that spur lol. How was your gear mesh?
Speed running on a VXL8s is a struggle on any platform.
Do you think that disconnecting the second rear axl might give you more speed by reducing loss of hp from drag on the motor through the drivetrain??
that is against the rules that they have set
I may have missed the clarification. But are the new tires a overall smaller diameter? That’s is probably one of the easiest ways to alter the overall gearing for top speed.
Those tires were a slightly larger diameter than the drag tires.
