I'm one of those people who found her music first, and then the book.
    She's so multitalented!

What a story. Saw the bands name on a lineup for ACL several years back, and checked them out. But, didn't expect them to blow up with so much awesomeness. Also, what a writer! Happy for her success!

I'm sure this was a difficult time in her life, however, guilting yourself into taking care of your mother after years of abuse isn't healthy. I found this book to be disturbing and a poor example for other people to follow. IFS therapy might help.

You're not incorrect but that is the unfortunate reality for a lot of Asian children both in Asia as well as the West. I would even go so far as to say that the culture perpetuates narcissistic abuse but also expects you to be their caregivers in old age or sickness. There's little support available because it never gets acknowledged as a problem. I personally found her account very relatable. She is also not really trying to set some example in the book, she is simply telling her story. Just what memoirs do.
