Mo Ghile Mear - Irish Jacobite Song
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 4 июл 2021
- This was a poem written by Seán Clárach Mac Domhnaill in the aftermath of the disastrous Battle of Culloden.
It's sung by a woman who longs for her loved one. The woman in question is a representation of the island of Ireland herself, and her longing for Bonnie Prince Charlie.
Many of Séan's poems talked about Ireland's longing for a fair and just Catholic ruler that would reestablish the old order destroyed by the Revolution.
As a result of the Hanoverian victory, Ireland (as well as Scotland and the other places of the Kingdom to some extent) experienced the replacement of local nobility by English nobles, faithful to the Protestant crown.
This eventually helped greatly the downfall of native languages like Irish, Scottish Gaelic, Welsh and Scots all throughout the United Kingdom.
The meaning of this song is often forgotten and it's famously sung as a simple love ballad.
Indeed it is, but a different kind of love.
A quick rundown of the heroes mentioned in the song:
1. Aonghus Óg - Probably the son of Boann and the Dagda, a mythical hero of Ireland and Scotland. He was the embodiment of vigor, who could bring the dead back to life.
2. Lughaidh Mac Chéin - A fierce mythical warrior who could kill 9 men with a single blow of his club.
3. Cú Raoi - Cú Roí mac Dáire, a mythical hero who had superhuman abilities and was a master of disguise.
4. Conall Cearnach - Legendary Fianna from Ulaidh, said to be unbeatable in battle and friend of Cúchulainn.
5. Fearghas Mac Róigh - Legendary King of Ulser, whose might and size were comparable to no-one.
6. Conchubhar - Conchobar mac Nessa, mythical hero and king of Ulster and son-in-law of Fearghas
Lyrics in Irish:
Sé mo laoch, mo ghile mear,
'sé mo chaesar, gile mear,
suan ná séan ní bhfuaireas fhéin
ó chuaigh i gcéin mo ghile mear.
Bímse buan ar buairt gach ló,
ag caoi go cruaidh 's ag tuar na ndeór
mar scaoileadh uaim an buachaill beó
's ná ríomhtar tuairisc uaidh, mo bhrón.
Sé mo laoch, mo ghile mear,
'sé mo chaesar, gile mear,
suan ná séan ní bhfuaireas fhéin
ó chuaigh i gcéin mo ghile mear.
Ni haoibhinn cuach ba suairc ar ndeoin
Taid fiorchaoin uasal ar uaithne sport
Taid saoite suaite i mhuairt 's i mbron
Ó scaoileadh uainn an buachaill beo.
Sé mo laoch, mo ghile mear,
'sé mo chaesar, gile mear,
suan ná séan ní bhfuaireas fhéin
ó chuaigh i gcéin mo ghile mear.
Is cosúil é le hAonghus Óg,
Le Lughaidh Mac Chéin na mbéimeann mór,
Le Cú Raoi, ardmhac Dáire an óir,
Taoiseach Éireann tréan ar tóir.
Sé mo laoch, mo ghile mear,
'sé mo chaesar, gile mear,
suan ná séan ní bhfuaireas fhéin
ó chuaigh i gcéin mo ghile mear.
Le Conall Cearnach bhearnadh poirt,
Le Fearghas fiúntach fionn Mac Róigh
Le Conchubhair cáidhmhac Náis na nós,
Taoiseach aoibhinn Chraoibhe an cheoil.
Sé mo laoch, mo ghile mear,
'sé mo chaesar, gile mear,
suan ná séan ní bhfuaireas fhéin
ó chuaigh i gcéin mo ghile mear.
ó chuaigh i gcéin mo ghile mear.

Depends. Their government allow you to idol them, they forbid other religions.
Having said that, they allow "catholicism" as long is state-run "catholicism". It's a perversion of the true faith.

A Catholic Britain and Ireland
@@yesssyeppp3852 Maybe, maybe not; a regime of tolerance would have been achieved earlier. All the penal laws would have been done away with.
Ironically, Ireland might have remained a part of the United Kingdom. Lacking the persecution of Catholics to envenomate British-Irish relations & Irish supporters of the Jacobites victors having a prominent role in the new gov't, it would have been a very different situation. Ireland would have a far larger population & have a far larger economy.
Ideas of religious tolerance would have been more widely established early on & the Catholic Church would indeed have had a great chance to rebuild after the Protestant catastrophe.
Remember, until the American Revolution, most Protestant churches were sponsored by the state, only a few small sectarian movements were an exception.
We might have had a far more Catholic world today. That's assuming the bishops didn't find an exceptional way to waste THAT opportunity.
@@VictorLepanto true, still a much better U.K. and Ireland especially for me since I’m an English Catholic

Unlike other christian groups ex cathedra doesnt have racist bigots just proud people god bless
Catholics always believed anyone can be converted, so there's not much room for racism there. Even during the 16th and 17th century it was the Church that opposed slavery and mistreating Indians. Protestants, on the other hand, have a record of treating other races like trash due to predestinarian racial theories, seeing the white man as God's chosen and thus having full right to do stuff like American westward expansion.
That is what makes Catholicism beautiful. The ‘Christian groups’ you mentioned are most likely protestants, heretics who’ve strayed from the Church of Christ

To this day more than 850 years have passed since the Anglo-Norman invasions of Ireland during Henry II's reign, by comparison the Roman-Persian Wars, one of the longest and most futile conflicts in human history, lasted "only" 680 years.
