- This is an Alila Ventana Big Sur review. In this video I'll show you how I stayed at Hyatt's best all-inclusive resort for free using Hyatt Points. This is one of my best-ever hotel redemptions and I'll show you how to book it for a great deal, and I'll review the property, the food and the service.
The world of Hyatt is my favorite hotel chain, and you can use credit card points and miles in order to stay here through Hyatt's loyalty program. During this hotel review I'll also show you how to earn enough credit card points to stay here using chase ultimate rewards.

Wow! I love World of Hyatt. Thanks for this thorough review.
I do too. Hyatt’s always my top choice! Thanks for the kind words!
Great review! I would love to visit one day! I have 170k Hyatt points and I’m not sure where I want to go 😅 I transferred them over from chase to book a room in Paris when I was close by but due to scheduling I was unable to go and haven’t figured out what to do with them now/ where to go . I might check out this place since I live somewhat close by to it!
Thankfully booking with points makes it really easy to cancel when you need to! And 170k is great, you could visit quite a few nice places with that. Alila Ventana would probably take half your points for just 2 nights so you gotta consider that.
I enjoyed your video Ethan and found your comments extremely helpful. How did you get the room upgrade?
Thanks Grace! I have Hyatt Globalist status and one of the perks is automatic upgrades. I did a video on how I earned Hyatt Globalist!
Another tip is to also text the hotel a day or two ahead of time asking for an upgrade. This gives you a higher likelihood since you’re asking sooner. Also if it’s a special occasion there’s a higher chance you will get an upgrade.
Happy travels and thanks for commenting on my video!
What a nice video! Thanks for the advices! 👍🏼
What s your top 3 most luxurious hotels in the world that we can book with points and get the best value?
Thank you! Much appreciated.
There’s aren’t necessarily my favorites, but they’re definitely some of the most luxurious.
-Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana (Dominican Republic)
-Hyatt Secrets Impression Moxché (Mexico)
-Calala Island (Caribbean)
There’s also the Park Hyatt Maldives, Park Hyatt Tokyo and Park Hyatt Paris!
😎❗️
If you could, would you have extended your stay? What else did you do around the Big Sur area off property?
That’s a great question! I didn’t know much about Big Sur before I went, but after visiting I realized there’s a lot of beautiful hikes and a few nice beaches nearby. The property provides beach and hiking gear you can take off property and I probably would have tried to go to the beach at least once. I probably would have done some more of the activities on property as well.
Great video!!! We are booked in 2 weeks found a 2 nights for 45k each. How did you got the upgrade? Did you call or they just did it? Want to try to see if i can get un upgrade too. Thanks
Text the hotel a day or two before you arrive, and then ask about it again when you checkin. Both are important, but definitely ask at checkin!
Hope it’s a great trip for you!
Hi Ethan, thanks for the great video. I’d like to go using points too but I’ve only seen suites for 90k/night! And I’ve looked at different dates. How did you get Standard rooms for 45k?
Yes it’s a great property and you should go! You often have to book 1 year in advance or use an availability tool that shows you the whole calendar of availability!
Got it. Thanks for the tips! Do you mind sharing which calendar view tools you use?
I tried using Open Hotel Alert but they don’t even show the Standard rooms. :(
@@ttsrollI like maxmypoint! There’s a great free version. You’ll like it more than open hotel alert!
What is the tipping situation like here? There aren’t many all inclusive resorts in the US.
I remember them specifically saying tips are not necessary because It’s included in their rate. There’s really no need to exchange money basically the entire time you’re there.
It is a great review. Unfortunately, we have a baby whom we can't leave behind. 16 years to go, before we can visit it.
Yeah we had to get the grandparents to watch ours. I understand. It was hard leaving him behind but he did great! Thanks Dennis!
Was the food unlimited to order? Or do they have a limit for example dinner
For dinner at the restaurants I believe they had limits on entrees, deserts, etc. But you could order food to your room or poolside as well.
What other high quality resorts would you recommend in the US?
I like the Hyatt Regency Huntington beach! It’s definitely the nicest beach I’ve visited at a resort.
Carmel Valley Ranch also gets a lot of praise but I haven’t been. Same with Alila Napa Valley, but it’s not technically a resort.
If you count Puerto Rico since it’s a US territory, there’s Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve Puerto Rico which is a beautiful property. Not the most swimmable beach but everything there was great and it’s much more reasonably priced.
The Grand Hyatt Kauai in Hawaii is also a beautiful resort a lot of points and miles travelers like and I’m heading there soon for the first time.
@@EthanPatrick_CreditCards That's very helpful since I have been thinking about trips to the west coast and Hawaii! Do you have any Hilton recommendations?
Let's be clear... you didn't spend $0. You spent 45k points per night. If those were already Hyatt points, sure you don't options other than using them on Hyatt properties. But if they were Chase UR, you spent at least $450/night considering that would be the cashback value.
That’s a solid way of looking at it and I know a lot of people like to value their points that way. But personally It didn’t cost me anything to earn those points, which makes them free to me. Those points are bookmarked as travel for me, that’s why I earn them. I generally don’t use my points for cash back. So my cost to travel was $0 out of pocket and it cost me $0 to earn them.
My annual fees are low, and have easily paid for this already in credits and redemptions, so the marginal cost of this trip was nothing for me and I think that’s a completely fair way to put it.
It’s fine to argue the semantics of it, and we can do that, but the cost to earn was zero and the cost for my stay was the same because of it.
How did you book for 45K points? I have Hyatt points ready but I can't see any award nights for 45k points..currently it's available for 66k or 90k points. up till Nov 2024. Is there a trick to getting 45k points per night.
The 63k+ are suites so you need to find standard room availability and since it's so high demand I booked about a year out!
It still took a lot of trial and error and now that you bring that up I really should have mentioned that availability is one of the biggest challenges here. BUT since then I've found a tool that makes it SO much easier to find availability because it shows you the whole calendar for the property, and it's a free tool. Check out 'max my point'. You'll love it.
I have to search each day for mine until i see a 45k redemption on it and see if the next day is also 45k. got a couple of days and just worked my vacation around it. Its took a bit of work but worth it.
Is Hyatt worth it without having any status with them?
That’s a good question! Their points redemptions are the same great redemptions, with or without status. For that reason I would say yes. This property is still all inclusive if you don’t have status.
But if you visit resorts and other nicer properties the food and parking are costs you’ll probably pay for without status, so you probably want to plan around that.
If I’m fighting wasps for my food, it’s gonna be a 0/10. just like that plane ride, I took with the snakes.
Haha fair enough! It definitely wasn’t pleasant.
I went here and its way overhyped.
It definitely is hyped up in the credit card space and I partly went to see if it was worth all the hype. I actually enjoyed it! But it’s price is steep so I can see it both ways.
What were some of the reasons you thought it was overhyped?
