Surprisingly this never scared me as a kid but rather intrigued me. I remember enjoying the beautiful swirling colors and the flashing lights...I think I just took this video into stride when I watched Rupert Bear and Seaside Woman. I can appreciate this video so much more now that I'm older though!

That's exactly how I felt. I was weirded out as a child seeing this and I always wanted to turn off the video at the end of seaside woman, but if I didn't make it to the tv before this nightmare began, I would be stuck, mesmorized and compelled to watch it. I was too scared to go close enough to turn off the tv!

From deepest space, the Oriental Nightfish falls silently into the metropolis.
The Nightfish enters her room in a blaze of light, skimming the ceiling, spreading across walls and floor, displaying powers of metamorphosis that surpass earthly experience.
Encapsulated in a crystal bubble, she enters a shimmering liquid egg, whereupon her naked body is multiplied into infinity, creating visions that transcend the very limits of human imagination.
The Oriental Nightfish is everything we know, and all that we cannot comprehend.

The concept is about extraterrestrial forces entering and conquering the human character - it chills and mesmerizes like nothing else!
The animation is so ghostly - love the sounds on the titles, the Nightfish itself, and the various landscapes that it takes the woman through...its pure genius and you don't see that often nowadays!

Found a quote from the director, "I got pissed off whisky and put the music on as loud as it would go, and lay on my back in the living room and let it wash over me. The whisky did indeed help, and I came up with this weird idea where alien forces enter this building where someone who looks like Linda McCartney plays a Gothic Expressionistic Wurlitzer. This woman with blonde hair is penetrated, got naked and inhabited by the alien force, then she's replicated, before becoming a comet that explodes. The film was a bit weird, scary and a little bit sexual. Yet it was later put on Paul McCartney's Rupert The Bear video for children. The kids who watched it years ago are now in their 20s, and they've set up an internet site called The Oriental Nightfish Haunted My Childhood. I guess it freaked them out and opened their imagination"
