    For someone who never pulled a liner before, you fabricated the perfect tool! 😎👍

    You do a great job good videos, I was a Diesel mechanic for more than 30 years. I am familiar with the series 60 engine and I fabricated tools as well

    Great idea Mr Robertson ! I've been a motorcycle, auto mechanic and medium duty truck mechanic. And have been trucking 11 years now. I've got a 1996 W900 that's getting tired and I hate paying people to do what i can do myself, so I've been learning to fix my old truck. I've been tying to make a plan on rebuilding my old cat and come across you the other day. You have given me a lot of motivation and ideas to go ahead and do it. Thanks for taking the time and making these videos !

      Thanks for watching and commenting. You can find a lot of tips on fixing many things on trucks and small engines here but I don't have a Cat engine and don't want to get one so I don't know anything about them. You can look at the "adept ape channel" he does Cat engines. On my channel I just show whatever I need to fix be it truck, car boat, bike, chainsaw, house, or even cooking. I'm just a DIYer and I share my experiences right or wrong but I don't put up videos telling how to do something and I failed to get it done.

      Yeah I've learned a lot from his channel. It's nice seeing I'm not the only one who wants to do there own work. Most the guys i know think they have to spend $25,000 on a rebuild. I'm the same as you if i own it ill fix it. Seeing you do a in frame in the driveway confirms my idea of doing it myself. I figure I'm gonna spend the $20,000 i save on a barn i can put my truck in lol have a good day !

    Don't forget to put your new liners in the freezer over night before you try to fit them, and only take one liner out of the freezer at a time, while you are fitting one the others are still freezing,
    Good luck in this weather,
    I like your puller.

      Thanks John. I hope the warmer weather we are starting to get here makes it's way to your area later this week.

    great video proving you don't need a engineer degree to be one.

    I'm still going through the videos. But you did an awesome job!! Thank you so much for your labor and attention to the details. I learned a lot already. And it gives me more confidence to do it my self. I know I dont have a broken piston. But my engine need a service thats for sure.

      @@GordonRobertsonDIY so, few times trough out the videos you mention that the book says this.. or the book doesn't mention that..
      Are you referring to service manual that you can get from Detroit Manufacturer for each engine?

    Looks like you took a drafting class at least once in your life :) Nice fab work.

      Thanks William, no I didn't take classes for that other than shop class in school, but I was a welder for a few years and did some layout back then and also looking over plans for other projects over the years. I can't believe how tight those are, the other guy that wrote in the comments the other day who said he used a bottle jack and a piece of pipe would have been disappointed on this one.

      I did take a drafting class in high school and still cannot do it, there's a reason good removal tools cost so much as some come out easy and some don't. I can barely get my people to go outside when it's this cold and you are out pulling liners.

    • @GordonRobertsonDIY
      @GordonRobertsonDIY  8 лет назад +1

      I can't work in the cold, today is my 1st day doing anything outside in a week, we got up to 40 this afternoon and tomorrow around 60 for a couple days but with rain of course, I'm sure you'll get some of this in a couple days.

    nice puller I am in framing a Detroit 60 series at the moment to,, trick to getting the liners out is in the center where the liners are in the block spray lubricant in those holes in will go down to the o rings an they will come right out ,, round hole in the block center way of the liner

    I'm been learning a lot from your videos brother thank you i got the same truck mine is a 1994 and yes i have also had to miss church like you on Sundays due to truck repairs. I will be doing my front bushing also while watching your video this spring, can you please show a video of your garage layout we just bought a 7 acre farm in South Jersey and we are going to build a garage for truck

      Thank you for the compliment. I don't know about a video on my shop anytime soon, I built it for car repair about 25 years ago, I kind of eased out of car repair and got more into welding and truck driving, my truck won't fit inside my shop, I have to work on the truck outside.

    Great video, man. And great liner puller. The temperature shouldn't be that much of a problem, tho. 35 °F isn't that cold. Once it gets to -15, I wouldn't recommend doing mechanical work. Stuff starts breaking at that point and you kinda have to wear at least insulated fish gloves.

    • @GordonRobertsonDIY
      @GordonRobertsonDIY  6 лет назад +1

      The temperature is an issue for me, I can't work outside when below freezing for more than a few minutes at a time. I have a condition called raynauds the blood stops going to my hands in cold weather and they freeze up pretty quick.

    • @CIorox_BIeach
      @CIorox_BIeach 6 лет назад

      Gordon Robertson Ah, I see. I'd have to put my hands in my pockets fairly often. Nah, I was just thinkin' the weather probably wasn't causing all that much trouble with the liner. It might have even helped a tad 'cause steel will shrink in the cold more than cast iron. Probably wasn't very helpful with the seals tho. Most likely kind of a wash. :)

    Great job....I thought that the "ears" on your liner puller would shear off. You must have feel pretty good when that liner first popped out.

    • @GordonRobertsonDIY
      @GordonRobertsonDIY  8 лет назад

      Thanks Jeff, I wish it did "pop" out, it was long slow wrenching for about 10-15 minutes with 2 long wrenches about 2 ft. leverage with both of them hooked together, it started to get easier after it was up about 1/2 an inch.

    Gordon are you going to reuse the liners? I thought maybe a torch to heat them up? my old Volvo truck was a real rust bucket I tried PB Blaster nothing worked expect acetone and ATF fluid break through the rust to change the torque arms.

    • @GordonRobertsonDIY
      @GordonRobertsonDIY  8 лет назад

      No, I'm not going to reuse the liners, I thought about using a propane torch, but am afraid if the inside of the block lights up with all the oil in there it might damage something, I think I will try a salamander heater underneath.
