Superb! Euston is a cracking station and certainly during that period. Such variety compared to the crap we have to put up with these days. Cheers, Jeremy.
There's a fairly decent chance 9 year old me was watching these services thunder (and trundle) through Wembley Central. My Grandmother used to take train obsessed me to a carpark behind BHS where I'd spend hours watching, mesmerised. I distinctly remember clinging to a chain link fence as the 321's went through at speed approaching Euston. They almost felt on top of me. Terrifying and thrilling in equal measure! I've said it before, I'll say it again.... Marvellous stuff Soi!
Thank you....I'm pleased others enjoy the vids, i filmed them back then for my pleasure, never dreaming the way they could be seen worldwide like they are today.....
Even more weird ... the 87 on the rear of the train also had it’s pantograph raised! Possibly providing ETH for the train with the 81 just providing traction?
@@tomarse99 that happened eventually but there were still a lot of loco-hauled trains at this time. When some HSTs were displaced to the WCML from the ECML by the Class 91s, then it became less necessary for as many loco hauled trains.
Wow what a video, what a time! Spent so much time here getting all the locos. And seeing the 321s which I now work on with GA. They have a special place in my heart. Great footage 👍🏻
I'm pleased you enjoyed it. I too liked driving the 321s, a lovely train....and i could actually put my legs in front of me thanks to Inspector Roy Wood suggesting the cut out in the desk at a pre build staff look at the proposed new stock.....
I had a great weekend in York with blue 31s 08s 47s mail trains and 37s despite being wet. North Yard still busy that spring as electrification was finished up.
Part of the heyday of wcml and its electric locomotive era, even though the "classic" rail blue was gone - but it was different colour schemes nothing else
Thank you....i never imagined at the time many people would see my videos, my Dad perhaps, being an enthusiast and the odd crank friend but for them to be seen on the other side of the world (subscribers in Aus & NZ) is just amazing......
My! How antiquated everything seems. The railways were really at a low point at that time being run down for privatization perhaps? Nostalgic video though as I live in Birmingham at that time and used the WCML a lot
@@annescholey6546 think they dragged empty coaching stock through the washer so they got faded by the detergents. There is a video on here showing a 83 almost pale blue because of the wash!
0:25 - 1:03 As Class 86 Intercity Departs London Euston Station, His Big Brother: Class 87 Intercity, & Their Junior Worker: Class 313 Network Southeast Arrives
The DfT just wanted rid of responsibility of the railways although they never really let go, and now have more control than in BR days! The stock did need an upgrade and they took what they could get......
This was in the period when the DVTs were being introduced, it could well be that set was booked for the 81 to haul it to Euston and that it was unknown what coaching set was in use until the last minute. The 81 was still need to get back to Euston for its next booked move.....It made for great filming though......
Great footage! Used to love hopping round all the main london stations only buying platform tickets
Yes, i was doing the same this day, looking in at different terminal stations......
Superb! Euston is a cracking station and certainly during that period. Such variety compared to the crap we have to put up with these days. Cheers, Jeremy.
Thank you.....yes, the variety has diminished somewhat.......

Fantastic video, your channel is like a gold mine.
Thank you...... iwas very busy in the late 80s and 90s!
Bloody hell ive never seen a 81 dragging a DVT that is very rare, well played
Even more weird ... the 87 on the rear of the train also had it’s pantograph raised! Possibly providing ETH for the train with the 81 just providing traction?
@@ModelRailway maybe the TDM failed on the DVT so the 81 dragged it in to avoid having to run round the 87.
I thought the DVTs were the reason the 81/83s finally got sent to the scrapper as no need for empty coaching stock duties anymore

It could have been a move to get the 81 back to Euston, or maybe the driver hadn't yet been trained on the DVT's.......
Superb filming there. Thank you for sharing.
My pleasure.....just the evryday back then! I was pleased to get the 81 on film though, the only other time i filmed them was at Crewe in 1988.....
@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus I was surprised by an 81 that late on!

Yes, i ahve some good vid from York in the 1980s, still plenty of variety back then.....
Great railway video as always Soi Buakhao, enjoy the video of these old trains.
My pleasure.....lots more still to come.....

Big missed opportunity for me was to catch up with the 85s at Euston before they finished that summer.
I know how you feel, there were things i should have chased but missed out on......

Well, the trackside was a whole lot cleaner & clearer back then, that's for sure!
Lovely to see the 81, assume they took over from the 83s
Looking pretty worn out as well.

Yes, i remember the washed out 83, too many trips through the Wembley washer!
great video!

Yes, it's sad to think the 321s are being scrapped. They were nice trains to drive.....
Queens Park station there at the end?
Just a 20 second clip at the end of the vid to upload the end cards over......and yes, it's Queens Park in August 1985.....
Why oh why did they allow Richard Branson to replace quality rolling stock with high density Boeing 737s without wings?

It probably came from the downside shed, I believe the 81s were often used as the shed pilot
eee my favourite loco
Is that a mk3b BFO AT 2:58?
Yep, 1 of 3 of em!
They were introduced for the Manchester Pullman weren't they?
The good days before the dreadful smelly Pendolino.
Yes, much more variety back then....
British rails electricity bill is very high
Yes the charges are shocking (2 puns in 1)
