  • This was an interesting, no cooling call on a industrial air conditioner, after checking the vitals of the system I was able to determine the issue and address it.

    A few years back our apprentice took it upon himself to change the final filters on the hot deck/cold deck unit. Instead of shutting it down through the BAS he just used the disconnect to kill the power. The BAS thought the unit failed so the steam valve failed open. When he restarted it, the air was hot enough to melt all the fusible links on the fire dampers downstream. Made for a fun afternoon. Great video by the way, thanks for putting it up.

    Looks like big fun. Great work.
    I was working on a live 460v panel and making a list of what was needed. The plant engineer came by and started to reach into the panel to point out a burnt connection. I caught his hand a half inch from L1 on a motor contactor. Love those college educations.

    Great stuff . I started pulling all my three phase Baldor motors and replacing bearings and cleaning the windings , rotor and stator. I went with sealed instead of shielded as techs over the years have mixes greases and over greased the crap out of them. 3 phase motors are tanks but they need a little love

    Nice job, I have several of those old Trane Ahu’s that I service. Looks like the driven bearings were replaced before( noticed nuts on outside of bearing) usually at least one original spring nut has broken on the bearing plate. Nothing vice grips can’t cure, nice setup. You must have sweat off several lbs. 😓

    its really impressive how many systems you know how to work on. I have kind of an unrelated question though... how much time does your dispatch give you for a call like this? I'm in Resi (trying to get out) and we have to know whats wrong within a half hour, and I bet it could take that long just to get to one of these units in a big factory lol

    • @drewc7479
      @drewc7479 Год назад +2

      A mechanic like this generally doesn't get questioned on time because not everyone can walk up to this kind of stuff and work on it / troubleshoot it. The time takes what it takes. I always generally think in half hour- 1 hour you should at least know what's generally going on and what path you'll be taking . But ya getting to some equipment definitely takes time even getting into buildings

    Those old semi hermetics are bulletproof
    I have a carrier water source AC from 1990 that ran with a blown out suction Schrader for like 3 days.... it was smoking hot, tripping on thermal limit. Pulled a vacuum could smell it was COOKED but it ran when I bumped it🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️. So put a flare cap and leak lock on the service fitting pressure tested pulled vacuum and added Freon. Ran it 3-4 days until the old filter dryer plugged up then changed the filter dryer and it's still running 2 months later. Oil looks like an old diesel with 25k miles on it but it's still running 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ waiting on approval to abandon in place and run the ductwork to a package unit outside 🙈🙈
    It's a huge 15ton water source AC with electric heat, probably weighs 3000lbs 🤣
    Evap coil still not leaking, wonder why 🤔🤔🤔
