When I was a teenager I got a cheap Sears metal detector for Christmas. I didn't know how to use the discriminator but I didn't care. I just liked digging for every signal. Found a lot of pull tabs but I also found silver coins, an 18k gold religious medal, a ww2 army of occupation medal, an 18k military ring, and so many modern coins.
I have been using the ace 150 for about 9 months now. I go metal detecting about twice a week with it. I love it. I have found civil war relics and tons of coins. YES> botttle caps etc..will show up as silver coin but will bounce back and forth to ring and give a different tone. I can tell in a second if it's a coin or a bottle cap or anything by how the detector beeps between silver coin and ring. It's an excellent detector and I have owned whites and many name brand detectors. Read several reviews about the ace 250 no really being much better then the 150....next by will be ace 350.
I subbed to you because of your magnet fishing videos but I've learned a lot about these from your videos like this. I like the way you do your testing. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and tests.
Thankyou for the thorough and honest review. I love my 150. Will be getting a bigger coil, but this is the model for beginners to start with for sure 👌
Thank you for the incredible review!I just ordered one of these (along with a pinpointer) to do some amateurish detecting in Canada. Glad to see what to expect!!
I konw. Hopefully will get some of them in the mix soon. Only Minelab I ever had was the Explorer XS and really liked it.

L.M.A.O! KILL THE MOLE!Great video Tim, thanks. I sent Whites metal detectors an email and told them to send you some products to test. Hope that they follow through. I would be interested to see how their detectors stacked up against the others you have listed, especially the treasure pro. The morel mushroom season stunk here in Dane County this year!
I should get a hold of whites. Good idea. I do miss the v3i. Almost bought one but just picked up a Makro racer 2. So far it isn't doing much if any better than the Fors Core I have. Sad to say the old Vaquero is still deeper if you run neg groudn bal.. Whether they send me anything or not I'll make sure to get a few here to try out. We ate 3 lbs this year with everyone looking in the family. Never found the Mother Load.
Straight up: did Garrett stop designing their moderately priced detectors with pinpointing so they could gouge out another couple hundred bucks from people for hand-held pinpointers? I had a great older Garrett with a built-in pinpoint targetter. Just bought an Ace 150 and noticed how a target could be anywhere within the footprint of the search coil whereas my older pinpointing model could narrow down the target quite nicely. Can anyone comment on this???
Garrett 150 isn't supp to go past 7 inch deep no deeper also will show other metals when on coins on screen no sound if keep scanning it will ping it's made to do that.
i have a same exact one, and it sounds every time i touch the ground , rock, or any surface object. even if i just rest it on the grass , is that normal, or my coil going bad?
Good grief. I'm thinking about buying a metal detector. Problem is, I live near a town called Ironton. It's called that because there are Iron ore deposits all over the place around here.
I'd like to see how my two copper wires bent to an L shape would rate on your scale. Put any size coin (copper, silver, gold) 3 feet underground, and I'd get the wires to cross exactly above the target...without any of the conjuring of spirits or other such mental or verbal mumbo jumbo. Cost of the two wires is virtually nothing...nor does it run on batteries or make sounds like an arcade game...no headphones to wear...and can easily hide them if a park official is approaching. My tinkering with dowsing rods was after I bought one of these Garrett Ace 150's....and have buyer's remorse for it. Only problem is, I really get tired of digging targets 3 feet down. It's possible to have a tool that's TOO sensitive. I should really stop digging after the first foot...as it makes a huge mess ! If you think dowsing is a joke, here's a quote of what Albert Einstein said on the matter : "I know very well that many scientists consider dowsing as they do astrology, as a type of ancient superstition. According to my conviction this is, however, unjustified. The dowsing rod is a simple instrument which shows the uncanny reaction of the human nervous system to certain factors which are unknown to us at this time."
hmm thinking of getting the garret ace 250 or the pricier option of the garret at pro! so i know the garret at pro is all terrain and the ace is not but what are the other differences?
There are a ton of differences. AT pro is a much better machine and has way more features. Best bet would to google at pro vs ace 250. Think the AT pro scored 5 more points than the ace 350 in my test bed. IF you are going to hunt a lot get the AT Pro if you want Garrett.
I doubt it, screen depth indicator says 6" deppest setting. But its all about the ground conditions, dry compared to damp soil will give different results. 8" is a bit much for an economy starter detector.
Pretty much the same other than pin point and relics mode. I have never owned a 250. Had bought one for a friend and tried it out. Seemed same other than the above.

I love the in-depth testing. Thank you so much. My dad just got me this model and I'm still going to use it. I need the exercise.
It's reviews like this that convince me of products. If you sold metal detectors, I would buy from you. Thank you for sharing.

I bought the ACE 150 as my first detector. It is rugged, it works, the quality convinced me to stay with Garrett.
How did that 150 hold up for you?
The Ace 150 sounds like my Toyota truck, when I open the door to exit and leave the key in the ignition.

Love to see a review between the Garrett 150 v 250... There's a £50 difference in price, live to know what I'm getting fir my extra 50 quid!
I also need to know am I paying just for the pinpoint button with the 250
Thankyou for the thorough and honest review. I love my 150. Will be getting a bigger coil, but this is the model for beginners to start with for sure 👌

How is going? Are you filthy rich yet or you till digging up pull tabs haha
Great videos Scannerguy as always, the Mole comment made my day LOLZ !
Good test, thank you for sharing I just Subscribed!
Great video I just ordered one of these
Excellent review! Very thorough!
Great video buddy. I would love to see some Minelabs and XP's on your bed. Massively popular makes in UK.
I konw. Hopefully will get some of them in the mix soon. Only Minelab I ever had was the Explorer XS and really liked it.

Very Helpful. Thanks for posting!
No problem. Thanks 4 watching
Your voice and accent sound like Jesse Ventura... ha ha I noticed I'm not the only one who thinks this..
He's a sexual tyrannosaurus!
little bit of macho man in there also.
I thought he sounded like a wrestler but could not put a name to the wrestler.
Me too, I'm British, thought I'd tuned into a character from the musical Guys & Dolls!
I've got this dector, it's found me many a rusty nails

good video thanks, very informative.
Great test my 150 wont pick up the new uk 10 pence in coin setting. Picks it up no problem in all metals tho.
Also hits coins at factory setting better than maxed out manuel even tells you don't max out for true readings

What is he saying at 7:10, canned slaw???
Will you be testing the quest Q20 ?
i have a same exact one, and it sounds every time i touch the ground , rock, or any surface object. even if i just rest it on the grass , is that normal, or my coil going bad?
They tend to beep a lot when touched from what I have found
Just brought one 👍
So what I take from this is that you’re better off just getting a mole than the detector... 👍😂
Lol. Not exactly
Good grief. I'm thinking about buying a metal detector. Problem is, I live near a town called Ironton. It's called that because there are Iron ore deposits all over the place around here.
How much are those iron deposits worth? Lol

Screw the flashlights.... Mori meteldetetors
I'm coming. Sorry. How about magnet fishing
Has anyone found shit with the 150? Aside from basic coins and bottle caps
Damn..i didnt know Jesse Ventura was in to detectors..
can you find a goldring 8 inch deep?
I doubt it, screen depth indicator says 6" deppest setting. But its all about the ground conditions, dry compared to damp soil will give different results. 8" is a bit much for an economy starter detector.
is it water proof??
Just the coil
I have the 250 Garrett any info on that one.
Pretty much the same other than pin point and relics mode. I have never owned a 250. Had bought one for a friend and tried it out. Seemed same other than the above.
what is the best bang for the buck? for a beginner?
not an ace
TheCleanist what do you recommend for gold nuggets. On a budget
Whites is by far the best
Perry Haen hi which is the best whites detector for gold nuggets and prospecting. I intend to use in Africa. Thanks
