Very helpful. I’ve had my torque wrench for years but never used it because 1. I never had the opportunity to. 2. I didn’t know how to use it. This video helped me understand how to use it now and I can’t wait to try it out. A+ tutorial! Thank you!
You are welcome. If you have a vice, you can clamp onto a bolt and give the wrench a few practice runs to get familiar with the feel/click. Try different settings on the tool.
I'm getting one due to the price. I've always had to just guesstimate how much force to use, based on the 'how-to' videos I watch before working on my truck. I've been lucky so far, but now I will be the Charlie Daniels of the torque wrench. Thanks, Earl
If you search "harbor freight torque wrench coupon", odds are good that you will find the a coupon. If not check the next week again. I think that they sell them at a loss to get you into the store. I've seen several different sources that have tested them for accuracy and they are stand up against other wrenches. My brother's test proves they will last a lifetime most people.
I bought my first torque wrench today from Harbor. I use them at work but never needed one at home so much. Now have an older Jeep..lol...I want to use this for polyurethane bushing calibration. Should be ok?
So if it ever breaks no matter how long I have it , Harbor Freight will give me a new one with the receipt? 😮. I just bought one today. The 1/2 one but I didn’t see a coupon as of today for it. 🤷🏻♂️. Also, my Scion Xb calls for 76 lbs of torque in the manual on the lugs. Set it to 76. Had a very nice satisfying “click”. Seems good for my first use.

You are right, Andrew. It's something I would have done, except I was staying out of the camera's view. Sometimes I have to do some really weird gymnastics so everyone can see. lol.
I bought one stuck a bolt in my vice and twisted in in half and it never clicked. I’ll try running it up and down then see if it works. Thanks for the video.
@@Know-How-Now to me what I've noticed is that the more the bolt fills the socket, the louder the click. The less it fills the deepness of socket the cick is shallow.
Just bought one recently can I use this to remove a stuck spark plug??? I put in 5 new plugs but the last one is tough. I've used my Standord ratchet wrench but no use. Hiw can I use this torque wrench to pull out that last plug also can I use my standard ratchet nuts on this or do I need different nuts??? Anyone help???
Torque wrench is to tighten only. You want to untighten, but if a ratchet would remove it, try using a piece of paper towel soaked with vinegar to get rid of metal on metal corrosion. You should also use some antiseize compound on the plug threads for removal in the future. Definitely use antiseize on alloy wheels if you rotate tires or swamp summer and winter tires. I’ve seen garage pound out wheels without regard to damaging the wheel in rotating tires; they’re fu cks and don’t care.
i just bought this, idk if im doing something wrong but i set the thing to 47lbs to tighten bolt on a new rear wheel hub and boy, i been squeezing and squeezing and pushing and pushing that bolt but no click sound. im really scared ima break something.. not sure if my torque wrench is broken
The lowest range for that size wrench is 5 lbs. My experience is that when setting to the lowest range for the wrench the click is very soft. That's why I mention practicing listening using it a bit to become accustomed to using it. Using a 1/4 inch wrench would be a better choice for 8 ft lbs. Also, if the wrench hasn't been used for a while, turn it to the top of the range and back to the lowest a few times to move the internal grease around. Old grease can get kind of sticky. Then set to a low setting & then operate at a low setting a couple of times. It's then ready for use. This procedure would apply to any brand click wrench, they all would have internal grease.
You are welcome. I have all three sizes, they are now more than $9.99, but I think they still run sales on them. I bought Harbor Freight dial calipers. My brother the machinist says they are pretty good quality. Good enough for my purposes, I've already used them a few times.
so it does slightly cover the bottom of the line, it's confusing, has anyone checked these things with a torque gauge. I notice sometimes it doesn't want to click and I have to go lower, make it click then come back up.
When set on the lower end of the scale the click can be quiet. I suggest putting a bolt in a vice and getting a feel for the wrench if you never have used one. I own all three sizes and try not to use the very low settings on a wrench. I hope this helps.
@Know-How-Now as a content creator myself i admire the content you put out. I'm just stating that he was trying to correct what you said in the video. He was in no way calling you a liar
my 3/8 seems to have a very very subtle click or no click at all! I missed the mark on an upper intake plenum twice, cracked two which means I have to salvage a third. the third I plan to just tighten by hand I DO NOT trust this junk it's going back to HF
If your setting was on the low side of the wrench's scale, the click is going to be subtle and maybe not accurate if you are using the lower 20% of the range. That would be about 15 on that wrench. You might try a smaller wrench.
The click can be hard to hear on the lower settings. Take it back to Harbor Freight, they will give you another one. My brother used one of these on a job at his machine shop on a job. It worked thousands of times before it broke. Harbor Freight gave him a new one.

How Do You Set The 1/4 Drive to 71 inches?
Excellent instruction, I have the exact same torque wrench, and will be using it and needed this guidance. Thank you.
You are welcome. I just used one of mine yesterday to change some spark plugs. Thank you for subscribing to Know How Now. Have a great day.
hi, im planning to use this on mountain bike that has a highest torque required of 30nm. will this be fine? thanks
I'm thinking you might want the 1/4 inch drive wrench.

@@Know-How-Now thanks for this info
Thank you so much for posting this.
You are welcome, Robert.
Good job explaining that 👏
Thanks! 😃
For maximum accuracy you should place the ball of your other hand against the wrench head to lessen side forces.

I bought one stuck a bolt in my vice and twisted in in half and it never clicked. I’ll try running it up and down then see if it works. Thanks for the video.
The click noise can be soft depending on the setting. If I remember correctly, the lower settings are a quieter click.
I ran it up and down a few times last night. I used it today & it worked great. Thanks again for the video!

I wouldn't recommend using the torque wrench past it's rated torque. Use a breaker bar.

🤣your not alone
I want to thank you so much!. Your comment saved me from snapping off a bolt.
I backed it off and tried again. It's a subtle click.
cracked TWO cast aluminum plenums, back to the salvage yard for a third! yeah buying a cheap torque wrench will save me money lmao
Awesome! Thank you!! 💙

Hold up, when I want 10, my 0 is like 1 mm under the line for 10, is that normal?
Thank you!

Mine doesn't click even on the lowest setting. I think I got a bad one.
Thumbs up!
I had a 3/8 set for 8 ftlbs and it never clicked. Went for the trusty, hand tight

Good idea to always put grease on new wrench some are dry
so it does slightly cover the bottom of the line, it's confusing, has anyone checked these things with a torque gauge. I notice sometimes it doesn't want to click and I have to go lower, make it click then come back up.
Mine must not work because it just caused me to break off an oil drain bolt, never clicked
When set on the lower end of the scale the click can be quiet. I suggest putting a bolt in a vice and getting a feel for the wrench if you never have used one. I own all three sizes and try not to use the very low settings on a wrench. I hope this helps.

MINE SOUNDS LIKE A MACHINE GUN And CLICKS TO ANYTHING U DO ...
Last I know they have a life time guarantee. Take it back to Harbor Freight and they will give you a new one.
The torque wrench is way off calibration... be careful peeps
People have done tests on them, they aren't so bad... ruclips.net/video/RZR92kNpoRQ/видео.html
Torque something at 10 lbs
I just bought one and it doesn’t click, waste of my time

Yeah, the price has gone up. I think they still have coupons/specials sometimes.
