Hi frank, I have been growing fig trees in Connecticut for twenty years. I water them every couple of days in July and August during extreme heat and I notice that they will wilt when they need water. Also, Make sure the trees roots haven’t outgrown the pot they’re in, as this will stress the fig tree out and there is the potential that the tree may discard the figs. Good luck!

You're mentioning how long in the season to fertilise, but what I'm still trying to understand is how often to fertilise - especially with salty fertilisers in pots...

Great Vid, I transplanted my negro fig tree into a larger pot, mayby too large, and its been looking so sad for about 2 weeks. Any suggestions? Should I downsize the pot or wait it out for warmer weather and hope it bounces back? Thank you

No, man! Don't worry! They will fill the space! In home gardens here (in Greater Syria, i.e. Bilad Ash-Sham) they can grow enormously! (The circumference of their stems can grow up to 3 yards, and the diameter of their canopy up to 10 - 15 yards! It's a miracle that they can withstand being imprisoned in pots!).

These look like Grow Bags. Fabric totes for plants. Look on Amazon, they have a huge selection. (Buy where you like, but Amazon is a product encyclopedia.)

I had an indoor fig but looks like it is getting too big for the pot I have it in. I have a bigger pot but it does not have drainage on the bottom. Is that ok or do they need to allow the water to come out of the bottom?

Have you tried sealing the top of your containers with plastic so that rain water can not enter?

I go with the 5 or 10g size. There's some solid ones I've had for at least 5 years now that come from Greenhousemegastore.

Wow you really like figs! 😂 I just bought a brown turkey fig, live in zone 7a and have been contemplating container growing or in ground. Are they typically light or vigorous producing fruit trees? I thought they grew to be rather large trees according to spacing requirements. How large can they grow?

10-15 feet is common, but through pruning you can control height and spread pretty aggressively.

@@RossRaddi Thanks ross for the reply. I have a fig tree which i have in a small container, but in the five or six years that i have had it, it has never had fruit. I put it in the garage every winter to keep it from dying. I am thinking of transplanting it to another bigger container. That's why the question.

10g size or bigger. That's roughly a 14x14 inch pot. As big as you can move!
