Fun fact: this special trick sound is actually the secret tape sound in the original version, they just switched the sounds.

This sound makes doing a special trick sound more badass

Totally agree. After THPS1 they used the sound of secret tape here and put it to the special tricks in newer games. But I prefer this one.

@@OscarVargas no, edge of reality changed the sound on the n64 version, they always used that sound.

The best special trick sound they ever had, the other ones don’t even come close to sounding as good.

I'm guessing because of the limited space on the cartridge.

I much prefer these N64 sounds over the PS1 version, it makes special tricks feel much more satisfying/badass and it hits me right in the nostalgia. I grew up around the N64 version of this, exclusively. Never seen the PS1 version until some years ago, same with THPS2. Even more recently the Dreamcast version.
Just like how I've never seen the PS2 version of THPS3 until some years ago, but rather PS1.
The original (PS1) sound for collecting a secret tape just doesn't seem fitting for whatever reason.
The DC version has the original special trick sound, but:
-The original "tapes collected" screen is the sound for collecting the S-K-A-T-E letters.
-The secret tape sound is the original S-K-A-T-E letter sound.
-The timer beep is the "competition leaderboard" sound when it's calculating.
