    If james was alive and saw LMFAO do the shuffle he would tell them "Get up off that floor". Cause the shuffle is crap compared to what james could do.

    He was an ORIGINAL. I knew even as a kid of 10 or 11 that James Brown was special, so unique, so talented. I still get chills watching him dance in this video. There will never be another like him. He was one-of-a-kind and a true GENIUS!

    It's hard to believe that America thought Elvis was the king??? When you saw James Brown perform you knew who the king was. They tried to minimize him by calling him the godfather of soul, yeah he was that too.

  • @ETandAssociates
    @ETandAssociates 9 лет назад +14

    James Brown: He moved like a marionette. He motivates me to this day, both because of his physical agility and his courage. He must have gained his moves from his days as a young boy boxer who was among many Afro Americans bused into Augusta to entertain wealthy Georgia golfers who watched over bourbon and cigars. He fought bare fisted and ate only if he won.

    • @ETandAssociates
      @ETandAssociates 8 лет назад +1

      Max Bielinski That is an accepted fact - good point. I think that with or without substance use, he was a fighter and passionate about making music and entertaining people. Going back to his boxing days, the attention he got from the spectators around the smoky ring made him both angry and comfortable putting it out there in ways that would have been outrageous to other performers who were more conventional - the young Elvis being an exception!

    My fairly soon to be released smooth jazzCd will have a tune on it titled..JB ..including horns and some of the most internationally famous "sidemen" to the most famous stars ever playing my tunes. To me, James was so instrumental for helping keeping Black folk's music alive and well respected globally. Jazz would be nothing without the Funk, Blues and the African influenced propensity for the most metronomic timefeel to me which influenced other cultures as well.

    Too bad I can only give one thumb up for turkishpower08's comment. Instead of Chuck Berry though, I would've thrown in the names of Jimi Hendrix and Bob Marley instead. Thing is, I personally don't like Chuck Berry, however, I can't deny the kind of influence his music had on everyone. But to each his own, right? Tons of people like Clapton as a guitarist, and I don't. His album "Riding With The King" with B.B. shows how white of a blues guitarist he is... if you permit the expression. ;)

    be careful of what you say; not all rap is crap. It's a genre much like any music you listen to. not every song in the Soul genre is great.
    And when it was at it's height people were calling it crap too. Just give rap time to establish itself with more than wannabe gangstas.
    Also, if you've never gone to listen you should listen to Tupac, Biggie Smalls (Notorious B.I.G.), Andre 3000, K-RINO, even lil Wayne. These men have talent and brought the rap industry to the place it is today.

  • @lamontlewis

    James was already old by the time he made this song. Not old in years, but old from being on the road 365 days a year, traveling the infamous 'Chitlin' Circuit', sleeping in buses and lousy hotels, spending up to 72 hours in a single studio session, and everything else he needed to do to be successful before he received national recognition. And by that time, he was burned out, physically and mentally. Most of America never saw the real James Brown. Too bad, too.

    @AshleyMarkPomeroy TO BE FAIR, understand something: as we age, we are no longer physically able to perform at the same level as one might have in our younger years. Look at David Lee Roth from Van Halen. He USED to perform impressive split-kicks, jumping 5 ft into the air. See the "Jump" video, you will see what I mean. Guess what? He no longer does those. Many stage performers set a high bar for themselves while in their youth. Later, to their disappointment, they find they have to cut back.

    It has to be '74 or '75. Jimmy Nolan and his guitar layin' the funk down. Doesn't matter where they were, every gig they did was white hot. Right now I'm flashin' back to the Cabooze Bar, Mpls., the whole big band on a tiny stage, the roof's rockin' off, people hangin' off the rafters, white and black people havin' fun together gettin' off on The Godfathuh and his Funk Perfect band.

    @ranus69 What are you talking about? I asked you where Prince was in the video. What makes you think I'm offended you compared them? I don't care what you think, and to be honest I prefer Princes music over Jame's anyway. What I'm trying to say is WHERE IS PRINCE IN THIS VIDEO? I don't see how you could interpret that as me being offended.

  • @petitequinte

    Black ain't got shit to do with it. Miles Davis didn't care what color his players were - and all the players he discovered are legends. Some of his fans gave him shit for hiring Bill Evans (white), a piano revolutionary. But he didn't care. time after time history has shown that the best groups and best leaders don't have color lines.
    funky is funky - 'nuff said.

    @jairus With the best performers, most of the time. Seems like today people go to concerts looking for a live cut of the album, but live music is supposed to be better than the recording--not because the recording is inadequate, but because live is where the real magic of performance happens.
