  • For our project house we chose fiber-reinforced panels outperform regular gypsum board, resisting denting, breaking, and puncturing, even in high traffic areas. Fiberock™ panels come in ½”, and 5/8” thicknesses and 8’, 9’, 10’ and 12’ lengths. They also provide excellent fire resistance and offer an economical alternative to concrete block and plaster construction. All Fiberock™ panels are UL certified for noncombustibility (ASTM E-136) and surface-burning characteristics (ASTM E-84, Flame Spread 5, Smoke Developed 0). Fiberock™ can be installed and finished like regular gypsum wallboard, with no specialized tools or techniques required.
    Good Design Practices
    1. Fiberock™ panels are designed for interior use in walls and ceilings, in fire-rated and non-fire-rated applications.
    2. Fiberock™ panels can be attached to wood or steel-stud framing and furring channels.
    3. For abuse-resistant construction, 20-guage or heavier studs are recommended.
    4. Use only paper tape when taping the joints. Do not use fiberglass tape.
    5. Use only setting-type joint compound to embed the tape into the joint.
    6. Do not use in wet areas.
    7. Control joints should be spaced at 30 ft. on center in walls and above door jambs; 30 ft. on center in ceilings (50 ft. with perimeter relief) and at L-, T-, or U-intersections. Location of the control joints is the responsibility of the professional/architect.
    8. For very high impact resistance, specify Fiberock™ VHI wall panels.
    9. For veneer plaster applications, specify USG Plaster Bonder over the entire surface after joint treatment, before plaster application.
    SHEETROCK® SAG-RESISTANT CEILING PANELS
These new panels from United States Gypsum Company provide protection against sag, even under high humidity conditions and when treated with heavy texture finishes. The new ½-inch panels are also lighter and, therefore, easier to install than conventional 5/8-inch ceiling panels. A 4’X12’ Sheetrock® Sag-Resistant Ceiling Panel weighs just 73 lbs., about 30% less than a standard 5/8” ceiling board.
The superior performance of Sheetrock® Sag-Resistant Ceiling Panels results from a breakthrough in gypsum board manufacturing developed exclusively by U.S. Gypsum. The panels feature an additive that fortifies the gypsum board composite, making the board more sag-resistant than conventional gypsum panels.
Sheetrock® Sag-Resistant Ceiling Panels have a gypsum core that is noncombustible and has a Class A flame spread rating. Unlike other ½-inch ceiling panels, the technology USG uses to resist sagging does not make Sheetrock® Sag Resistant Ceiling Panels brittle or hard to work with.
