On Wednesday 17th March 2021 I crossed the George Washington Bridge. They did not accept any cash, so I had to use the Pay-per-plate option. When the moving van crew went a week earlier, from Texas to Maine, they had also problems with toll roads where cash was not an option.
I live in New York and travel these roads and bridges on a daily basis, N.Y. doesn't have the high crime rates like Chicago and is actually pretty safe for a such a large city, unlike Detroit their aren't any burned out or abandon areas. However is it an insanely expensive place to live and very crowded, the traffic is just brutal. Trust me though if you wanted to live in Harlem you probably couldn't afford it and that is not an exaggeration. The taxes are really criminal, every imaginable type of tax, state income tax, city income tax, sales tax and on and on.......
Born and raised, you know, family, friends, career etc. It is an awesome place to live, it is hard to describe it accurately in a youtube comment section but New York really offers its residents a lot, you wouldn't know it but we have great beaches, great fishing and boating. The professional sport franchises, the history, career oppourtunities, the culture, the sights, shopping and food. I have traveled to different parts of the country and you just can't match the quality and diversity of the food, I am not talking about gourmet 5 star cuisine, I am referring to some of the basics like Pizza, Chinese food, Bagels, ethnic foods like Italian and Greek, it is really special. Don't get me wrong N.Y. has more than its share of negatives but over all it is a pretty unique place to live, even with its insane cost of living and horrific traffic. This isn't a knock on any part of the country at all, it comes down to the individual.
Again, It comes down to that and how many people chase that very feeling they get from the city. That's why it's so expensive to live in, with such a great demand for apartments. Many people want that lifestyle. I could say the same about San Francisco or L.A at this point (in regards to the expense of living in a great city) Traffic is shit in all of the aforementioned cities. Only N.Y even compares as far as public transportation goes to being worthwhile.
j k I've never been to New York before but the way you described it sounds similar to how London appears to me. Lots of people seem to complain about the defects, and the way you wear describing New York sounded like you couldn't wait to get out of there.. but like you said you been to other cities, and they can't just match the qualities your city possess, and such reasons are why I wouldn't swap London for any city in the world.

I've never seen any US toll roads or bridges that take CC/Debit. Is that usual in other states? I know that there are 2 or 3 Easy Pass type of systems that are used across multiple states but I've never seen any of them accept a card at the booth. I'd be interested in hearing about states or interstate roads that do accept a card onsite.
Just drove though there this past weekend for the first time ever and , I meant to stay on 95 to go into New England but I was in the same lane 3:52 and didn’t see the 95 thru traffic sign until it was too late lol, too much traffic to quickly get over and gps didn’t tell me that. That was fun getting honked for going too slow reading the signs as a lost guy not from there 🙄 😬😓
Hey just an fyi when you head back home consider stopping in Ohio if you take the turnpike to pick up an EZ pass beacon. Im originally from metro Detroit and had to drive to Rhode Island for work often, you will save $$ and time with an EZ pass. Most states only offer EZ pass discounts if you are local but Ohio's turnpike offers a 50% discount to anyone who uses EZ pass. Ohio sells the beacons at each rest stop and they work any place that uses EZ pass(entire northeast and midwest). Just some advice, great videos btw. Im currently overseas for work and these vids, good and bad, make me miss the US. Especially Detroit. For all its' struggles I absolutely love Detroit and being away has just reinforced my love for it.

Detroit is a great town and just like NY it is coming back , getting better with every visit I take up there. Things may have gotten a little worse than they were in NY at it's nadir but a new generation has asked themselves why do I have to live in this boring suburb when I can move downtown and have some fun. From Motown and Greenfield Village all the way to now the rebuilding of the beautiful Central Station Detroit is world class !
