Nice work as always! Stainless is a pain to machine but it sure looks pretty when you're done. Thanks for breaking down your thought process with charging for your work. You are right, you have to charge enough to make it worth what you do. You do nice work, and you have a lot invested to be able to do it. There's no way that should be cheap. I understand doing work cheap sometimes to help somebody out or to get in with a new customer, but those things help get you more work in the long run.
My boss told me once the shop rate where I work, and I was surprised that it was barely $100 per hour. It's a pretty big shop with quite a bit of overhead, and I expected it to be higher. They are really weird about overtime too, they seem to always want people working 50-55 hours a week. They would take jobs they would barely break even on (usually ended up losing money on) just to keep people on overtime. I've worked several places, and I've never seen anyplace like this one. At least it's cheap entertainment.
Thanks for the update, hope you have a good Father's Day and hope you have a good week!

I don't think $1,000 is asking too much for these stainless steel shafts. They look like quality products, and I think any shop owner would agree that you have to spend money to make money. If you have a machine that's key to your bread and butter business, you can probably afford to buy a quality part to keep it up and running.

I ended up changing $600, and they gave my wife a free shopping trip for head bands, everyone's happy 😊

Don’t worry about what anybody says it’s none of their business. Chargers as much as you can.
