I like the idea of sitting Shai for stints throughout the season. They have a firm grasp on the 1st seed, so why not? Allow Dub to practice being the main ball handler and allow the team to figure out how to win without an MVP level player in Shai. It'll be good for the growth of the players. Mark can also use those games to fine-tune rotations and lineups.
Raccoon squad here! Great commentary! I agree with your point that this game doesn’t mean much in how the games will be when both teams are fully healthy. I love this rivalry and I hope we can meet in the playoffs again!
I think you just proved you’re not apart of the squad. That doesn’t sound like boasting. That sounds purely like taking a step back and looking at everything as a whole
19:27 Rylan last year PJ was a good defender and a streaky shooter but this year PJ has been a great defender, good rebounder, and a very consistent shooter. He’s been the mavs 3rd best player this season.
He has been really good! Also gotta give a hat tip to Nico I mean I can’t think of a single better complimentary role player to put next to Kyrie and Luka. He just works so damn well with Dallas
@ 100% Nico knocked it out of the park w that move…apparently pj put in a ton of work in over the summer w a shooting coach and they re-engineered his shot. It appears that it’s paid off. This is his best shooting percentage from 3 since his rookie season.
This game told alot about Jdub as a primary scorer and that hes just not there yet and thats fine "for now" but my main concern with him has been his inefficiency across the board this season, when theres games SGA isint dropping 30 or 40 a night or maybe a playoff series where Shai is struggling to score in, can Jdub be that primary number two option we need him to be to win a title?
I don't think so. It's a struggle to win at that level without SGA. Might even be a struggle with SGA in a seven game series in games where he might get bothered or keyed in on and shut down. He is a HUGE presence on the floor and tbh on a still young Thunder team no one has really emerged as a rock solid "number two" yet on the offensive end. Not Jdub, not Chet. As of right now the team needs to hope that even with SGA present their defense and role players are enough to support SGA. And they are in the regular season even if some losses are taken and storms weathered in his absence. But in a seven game series in certain match ups? Things could get rough without a guy SGA can look at and think "he's got my back." That said? I do think the Thunder have a better chance than most to get it done by committee. To really win a 'chip? In the playoffs that defense, high level role players, and different individual players stepping up on any given night to add a scoring punch be it Dort, Jdub, Chet, iHart, Joe, Wiggins...whatever and whoever...I think can get it done with solid coaching and leadership behind it. BUT...its yet to be seen. Ideally one or two players do emerge in the playoffs who can reliably be "that guy." But if not and the Thunder clearly exit on account? By committee and defense don't work? Decisions by Presti will need to be made. Hard but winning ones. Thunder have talent and draft capital to spare. No one player is not expendable for the right move imo except SGA and Chet. We'll no more when the postseason is done.
What you just said is why cam Johnson would be needed he would be that next guy to step up an yes thunder fans cam Johnson is a upgrade over Isaiah Joe don’t even try to say Joe is better cam Johnson is a three point shooter teams would fear an I dam sure no Dallas wouldn’t be able to stop us
It's difficult to score when everyone knows you are that night's number one option and you can't defer to a true big. Kyrie can make it work because he has elite handles to handle a double but JDub isn't there yet. JDub works better off the ball, just like Ant. KAT and Conley provided good open opportunities for Ant to fly under the radar every now and again for a swift attack. JDub is also off a back 2 back so we can't act like that's not going to slow them down against a fresh Mavs. They had a good performance because they made Mavs work for it and if I recall OKC was down 20 points at one time. So they did great to get it tied up and only lose by 8.
No Chet + No SGA + No IHart + No Mitchell + on a b2b after blowing out the best team in the east. To fly all the way to Dallas on tired legs, the boys fought. Not a bad lose🤷🏾♂️
I respect Luka and Kyrie for their skill at the game and Dallas is a fine competitive team but the Thunder are #1 the best. We will see you in OKC next week.

Do we need Cam Johnson? With all the rumors clapping about, the Nets may feel they have their golden chip and want too much for what Cam is worth. There's a reason no one else has tried to get him. We need to look all over the league for the best option. Plenty of teams would be willing to deal for draft picks and a few players. Lots of players would be willing to come to a well coached team that plays as a team and is headed for the playoffs.
Pj washington outplayed aaron wiggins on the last 2 games, when he was being guarded by jdub or kenrich he did not score a lot. I just don't know why mark keep putting wiggins to guard pj and kyrie
Carlson is a lot better player than I first thought. He has some potential. Flagler has got to go. In his garbage minutes, he was totally against the Thunder way by shooting every time he got the ball even though he had no shot. He literally brought down our stats by shooting 8 bad 3's and 9 bad FG in a few minutes. If he can't be traded, cut him.
Proved again that JDub is not the second option and I’m glad you didn’t sugar coat this because this is concerning. If this situation happens again, hopefully IHart will be back. Not so confident of Chet’s return but we will see. The refs sucked…period.
JDub is after Chet in the true pecking order. So he actually did his job as the 3rd option. If your 3rd option is thrusted to the main guy on a back to back it's going to be difficult to win because OKC doesn't have any consistent players after JDub. They have a great team but they don't have many iso players like Celtics. So all the Mavs have to do is lock in on JDub and try to wear him down. Plus there's no true big to clean up your shot. Credit to OKC for still rebounding well but how many more rebounds would have been had if IHart was there?? I remember a play where Dallas missed maybe 2-3 times and kept getting the rebounds which hurts the defense because they can see that their efforts are wasted.
