I believe the song was recorded in 1965, it was actually an award-winning song written by Paul McCartney, an excellent job on this, the b-flat7/#9, puts a suttle "french" flare to the song.

I've been playing Beatles since I was 13. Now I'm 69, and still playing. I'm a decent amateur player, yet I must not be ashamed to admit that I was not playing Michelle properly, before I met with your tutorial. I can now, at least, play a much more proper guitar backing when singing Michelle. Thanks a lot! Your Beatle guitar tutorials are almost perfect.

Hey thanks for this great lesson! I am a hospice musician and visited a 70 year old female patient on our service. I asked her if she had any favorite songs and she said “Michelle”. I had to tell her I didn’t know that Beatle’s song and I played a few others. I did tell her I would see if I could learn “Michelle” by my next visit. I checked out a few other instructional videos for the song here on RUclips and came across yours. Very direct and to the point and I am excited to say I’ll be able to play and sing this lady’s request at my next visit with her. Thanks again for your lesson!

You are the best teacher Ive seen. You get into the details while showing each, slowly and repeatedly. Lessons for beginners, not pros who just want to learn the song (although they, too, can get a lot from this). Thank you.

I had always thought of this song as a bit twee until I realised how cool and unusual the chords are that Paul used in it. Its actually a beautifully sculped song. Lovely work by Andy bringing it to life.

I gotta say, I look for your instructions first, now.
I almost gave up trying to learn anything new after playing for over 50 years (thought the really good guitarists must have more fingers or something).
Now, I'm able to entertain myself and not want to see if my guitar can fly! lol
    Keep on instructing!

that "B flat seven sharp nine" is found in the Mickey Baker Jazz Guitar Method which was a popular instruction book written in the 1950's. It was published internationally and was quite popular with aspiring jazz guitarists. I'm sure that was the chord shape that you're referring to. It's listed in the chord reference page as a D13 flat five, flat nine (moved up two frets to make it a E13 flat five, flat nine. Crazy how identical chord shapes can have different names!

Wow, I've been performing Michelle in the same key but capoed 2nd fret, and now I see that unusual cord that McCartney talked about in that new "doc" with the long haired bearded producer guy, It's like the Hendrix cord the "F" 2nd cord in the verse, there it is, amazing. BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY,, please do a video showing McCartney's song "Acoustic Phase" from Londontown I think you are the ONLY guitar teacher who can learn and show to us slightly advanced guitarists. PLEASE,,,,,,, I'll be waiting and watching

This is a really terrific lesson - thanks so much. I know that Bflat7#9 shape as the 'Mickey Baker' chord from his 'Jazz Guitar' book (although he used it as a 13th chord for a different root). Such a cool sound - you can understand why they couldn't resist it.
