Ryan this was my first year taking care of my own lawn, and I just wanted to say thank you. I've learned so much binge watching your videos over the last couple of months. You obviously put a lot of work into your channel and it shows!
Me too! Forever grateful for all your insight and my lawn looks insanely good. So much so that people have stopped to ask what I’ve done. I just say ‘watch Ryan Knorr on youtube and you’ll get it’
Same here. Because I have my lawn since last year and knew nothing about it, I did nothing but mowed every week. And this year it is hard to fix but at least I started fertilizer and other scheduled treatments. Even though there’s a lot to do next year like tenacity, it will be one of the best lawn in the future among my neighborhood.
I’ll send you the before after. It’ll literally all you. You deserve to see how amazing your advise is. And the quality of the videos is a great bonus.
Another amazing video. Thanks for posting. The information your provide and the quality of your videos is amazing. I came here for lawn care knowledge but I am blown away by the way you put it all together. Great job. 👍
Cheers for a good lawn year, my first of many I hope. This channel is what got the ball rolling, inevitably it rolled straight down the lawncare rabbit hole...🕳🐇
I was planning three weeks ago to put down my Winterizer. The weather wasn't cooperating. I had a window I planned to put down the fertilizer on a Tuesday. Mother Nature had other plans. She dumped 8" of heavy wet snow. WE did get a little warm weather it finally got melted down But, I had a thick layer of ice on the lawn. Plus.... another storm was coming in. So I did what I had to do. I raked the ice off the lawn. I got the Winterizer down. Got everything put away and it started to snow. There was another 4" of fresh snow now covering the lawn. It spose to warm up this week in the 40s. The melt down will be helpful. But I'll see what happens come spring. Nice to see all your project came out well.
Watching you look at your neighbors young KBB..has now tought me that what i thought was bermuda trying to come back is actually my new KBB...awesome man you saved my blood pressure
I started following your videos last year and they’ve helped me out tremendously. I started out with compacted clay soil so it’s been a challenge.I’ve been doing the pre and post emergents, regular mowing, irrigation, along with fert and aeration.Making good strides thanks to you and your advice.See you in the spring!
Ryan, I have two questions. I live in British Columbia and our temperatures are staying at around 5 degrees Celsius (41 degrees Fahrenheit). Is it too late in the season now to put down an application of fertilizer since the grass has almost completely slowed down? Second question: Is it too late in the season to overseed and expect new growth?
Soil temps are not favorable for any new growth. I’m in WA state and have the same conditions. You can do a dormant seeding but wouldn’t expect any growth till spring
Hi, I live in Southern Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦 My area temp has dropped quite bit. 32~46.4F. We are getting below 32F at night this Thurs & Fri, then temp will slightly go up next week. Some days we get highest at 50F until the end of next week, then from 2nd wk of Nov, temp will be consistently max 44.6F during the day, and 32F at night. I was wondering about the last fertilizing as well. Is it still safe to throw em down this week or next week???? I'm so new to lawn care. I have been following n learning from Ryan, LCN, JTLK, and some other cool season guys' youtube channels. Every time I go out throwing down my fertilizers, neighbors and dog walkers look at me like I'm a crazy person lol
Hard to believe it's that time of the year already. Great work on the project lawns. We don't get rain or snow lol, so if you get bored and miss the grass drop by for a visit.
Content idea for winter: Would be cool if you could travel down south and meet up with subscribers/other RUclipsrs who have warm season grasses and make content based on their stories with their lawns..I dunno just a thought..Keep up the great work man!
Thanks for all your helpful strategies on the renovation. It helped motivate me to get mine done this year. I started late after irrigation install, haven’t reached 3 inches on my new black beauty but we are having a hard freeze in two days, will I lose the lawn where it has not been mowed or fully matured? Just getting nervous 😬 some of it came in pink also? Jonathan Green has no idea why..😳
Excellent updates, season closure, content, and absolutely awesome cinematography! And you better have a bunch of B Roll for us cold snowy states to help is get through the winter.
The renovation results speak for themselves. You knocked it out of the park this year! Excellent work and you are the man with the plan. I have learned so much from you this year. Thank you.
Ryan love seeing the progress. This was my First year of trying my green thumb and i have had amazing results thanks to you. Can someone in jersey do a soil level in the spring with another overseeding?
The information about winterizing was very interesting and helpful. I have fertilizer that I had planned to drop in November, but I think I'll hold off and see what happens. I dropped about .6lbs/1k of Nitrogen on Oct 17th, so that should take me through.
Planning on dormant seeding at all?? I have a new lawn and plenty of bare spots, but i haven't found "the dormant seeding" video yet. just a bunch of semi-informational videos. I'd like to know what kind of seed for what zones (i'm in Idaho), what does the ground temp need to be, and do i need to put anything on top of it? Thanks for the help!
I always learn something from your channel. Thank you! I over seeded my lawn this fall with turf type tall fescue and want to thicken it up. What hight do you recommend cutting at? TIA
Ryan, question; my understanding is Ruegrass seed produces 1 blade per seed. Unlike KB it does not spread underground and grow new blades. That said, when over seeding with Rye , should u spread it thick? Thanks . ,
Watching with my 2 year old, she said, "Wow he's faaast" @2:30! LOL. One question though. Do you still recommend energizer at end of season? And is that safe for newly renovated KBG?
I think you're going to love the fescue lol In the midst of everything, thanks for 2020. I learned a lot from you in my rookie year and look forward to 2021. Be well!
So my question is what type of fertilizer would you recommend for this late in the season? What is a good slow release available at some of the big box stores? What numbers should I be looking for?
Awesome video as always. Great to see how all the projects are coming along as well. I've got to get back into the studio and get to editing on mine. Just haven't had the time.
Been either raining, foggy, or damp for 2 weeks now in North Jersey and had to cut wet grass on Saturday. Also staring at bald spots that just sprouted seed last week and not sure if they are going to make it. I feel your pain, The 6 cords of wood stacked on the side of the house are really depressing to look at
@@MM-rw8jv Oct 3rd, I put down about 3lbs. of GCI Cool Blue on a test area about 100sq/ft to see how it comes up. The TTTF is around 2" but no KBG yet since it's too cold. Hoping to get at least 1 cut on it before the winter but not sure if that's gonna happen. Might be overseeding over an acre with it next fall if I like the look
That tall lite green grass in the really large yard renovation looks like Orchard Grass. Hope I’m wrong. I had some excavation work done in my yard and ended up with some of it. I had to hand pull all of it. Took several hours.
Well we still have 3” on the turf up here in the Twin Cities. Looks like I should be able to get the rest of the leaves cleaned up this weekend. 2020 was a great year for my turf. Can’t wait to see how it responds next spring. Thanks for the education and entertainment!
Ryan, is that fescue you planted one of the GMO's that now have rhizomes? Through the camera with poor post stroke eyesight it doesn't look very dissimilar to KBG. Cheers.
Would like know this as well. I’m considering TTTF for my backyard but don’t like the real thick bladed, clumping stuff. I live just outside Portland, OR, do you know of any sod farms who sell it? Thanks!
Hey Ryan, I’m in south Florida and I thing I have St Augustine grass, however I will like to change it to have that look like you have on you yard. What do you recommend? I also have many weed that I’m getting a hard time getting rid off. Thank you for the advice ?
We got hit with snow last week that stuck, super early for where I’m at in MN. Will hopefully melt by this weekend given the warmer temps coming (back to 50’s by Saturday). Is it too late to do a final mow? I’m afraid of damaging the turf as I’m assuming it’s mostly checked out by now given the snow cover for so long. What’s the best practice as I missed my final mow...
Based on the new research you would advise against putting down a quick release dose of N/ winterizer? Thought I was staying ahead of the curve by watching last year's video for the winterizer suggestions 🤣🤣
Ryan what tall fescue did you plant? The tall fescue I had last year was really lime color and looked stupid with the other grass. Or was just bc it was young? It did amazing in the summer and took the heat better than anything
Up in the Puget Sound it's the same. I've got at least another 2-3 weeks, and maybe 4-5. I'm still getting 2 a week in right now, despite a weird cold snap the last 2 days. This lawn just doesn't want to give up for the winter.
Here in Europe for our coll season grasses we do not use nitrogen in our winter/autumn fertilizing strategies. Only phosphor and potassium. That has been the golden standard for decades now.
Cut grass to 2.75 inches for winter to discourage field mice and voles from making runs throughout lawn. Have less work in spring to fill in and reseed in spring. Interferes with preemergent timing when I have to reseed.

Great Video Ryan! What length should you be cutting the grass for winterizing?
I vote that you keep the tall fescue. In the spring I bet it'll stripe harder than the bluegrass you had back there. Stay warm this winter.
Holy moly! I would be happy as heck, if I was your neighbor! Good work, helping the neighbor out!
