If using Zoom, if you do a local recording within Zoom, there is a setting (at least in a paid plan) to have each speaker be on a separate audio track. This is still lossy, but makes it easier to clean up each speaker.
Is there a way to do the same but with videos?

Great video starting up a podcast in next few weeks I just wondered if wearing headphones how can I record other person voice on a video
Would love to see the set up so I know I am recording on separate tracks and the process after to bring it to one file. What do you recommend for video also?
If no one has mentioned it, Squadcast now has video recording, and what's offered at the different levels has changed-- like entry level now is now 5 hours and pro is 12. However, video recording is expensive even at entry level...
I find Squadcast limiting with their support of devices/browsers. For a regular co-host scene this is not a problem but constantly changing guest it is a hurdle more than using Zoom.

I have spent hours today watching your tutorials (including the 8-part series). Thank you so much! I will be launching an interview podcast and have been paying particular attention to how to get the best audio quality for remote guests. I already have a paid version of Zoom so I'll run with that initially. One question I haven't heard answered yet: I am concerned that guests may not have a high-quality external mic and their audio quality will ultimately be poor. Do you have some suggestions to mitigate this risk?
If people don't have a microphone, we recommend using Airpods or earbuds with a microphone. They get surprisingly good audio quality.

@@Buzzsprout Great suggestion. If you're using Squadcast as your software, then how do Airpods or earbuds communicate with the software? Would it be similar to using Zoom? (ie: bluetooth connection to computer??)
@@Plan60Prods Yep, squadcast can hear any mic input that your computer can hear. Just like Zoom or other VOIP software.
Hi Karen, curious how your show turned out. In addition to the good advice below, I would also recommend asking the guest to record a backup recording locally on their computer (using Quicktime/Garage Band/Audacity) or on another device, such as their phone. Just have your guest put their phone as close to themselves as possible and hit record on a voice note app or other recording app. I've edited interviews where the zoom audio got lost, or was corrupted, and having a backup was a life saver. In fact, sometimes the "backup" recording was even better quality than the zoom audio.
I am re-recording a segment because I forgot to turn off the quiet air filter in the room. It’s so quiet I forget about it, but it showed up in the recording because I got such a sensitive mic for my hypnosis sessions.

I have a Blue Yeti, Shure SM 57, and a Audio Technical at2020 and live on a sailboat where there is always some level of noises around me. Which of those 3 mics would you suggest?
It depends on the vibe you're going for.
Recording your podcast on a sailboat gives your episodes a cool vibe that not many podcasters will be able to replicate. If you want the "ocean sounds" to be a character in your podcast then either the Blue Yeti or AT2020 will work wonderfully.
If, however, you want the microphone that will reduce the background noise the best, go with the SM57

When recording guests (non-co host) in other cities, how do I ensure good audio quality? Do I need to send the same equiment setup and have them set it up; is there a simplied version for guests?
Hi Jennifer! Great question! If your guest doesn't have the same equipment as you have but have a decent microphone and headphone, that'll work as long as they are in a quiet place. This will make editing easier.

What are the best alternatives for recording an audio only podcast where the guest is calling in remotely?
We have a guest coming on with low tech skills and we'd like to simple provide a call in phone number, without a meeting id and passcode as Zoom has.
We used Blog Talk Radio on a previous podcast and this feature was available, however Blog Talk Radio is very expensive.

How can you have your visual podcast interviews look like the one in this video? Do I have to crop manually in post-production to get them side-by-side? Or is there a streaming service that offers this in live interviews?

@@dadson8524 how do you live stream with OBS? I only know about Zoom, StreamYard, and Discord. Yet when I had live podcasts or meetings, they didn’t really look like the ones in this video.

Man, just published an audio podcast from a Zoom call, and sounded fine live, but output audio levels were not even - my gain was much higher. Wonder if it was the zoom settings, or that I have a Q9U and other party used an inferior mic...?

What's insane is SquadCast doesn't even have a free plan anymore and they increased their pricing by a lot. I'm talking $100 per months for 12 hours, which is what any serious show needs. Even if you go 5 hours (which is the lowest) it's $40 a month. That's insane pricing imo.
Does zoom give one the option to record audio while watching the video, but not recording the video?
Hi Magdalena, you can use a third party app, or if you have a recording privileges, record it locally or to cloud. In this way, you'll get a separate files of audio, video, transcript meeting and chat meeting.
What about the cameras? Are webcams viable?
If you're planning on having it uploaded on RUclips and other platforms, getting a clear camera, whether separated or attached to your laptop is helpful.
We mainly use the Canon M50 with the 22mm prime lens (that lens is brighter and better than the stock 15-45mm lens).

How would you record a Remote Podcast BACKUP recording (with the host and guest at different locations) on SEPARATE tracks, with only the host controlling the podcast recording? I've tried doing this in Audacity, but it only records the Interviewer in the studio, or records both the interviewer (and remote guest) on the SAME Track. (Btw, you guys always have given me great tips...kudos!)
Hey there! If you're recording your podcast remotely, it is best to use software like Zoom or Squadcast.
It provides a separate recording of both videos and audios, which you can eventually edit using your preferred editing tool like Audacity.
@@Buzzsprout YES, we know this, and we've used all of these platforms for over 2 years for our MAIN podcast recordings - BUT I am refering here to a BACKUP podcast REMOTE recording where ONLY the host can control the BACKUP recording of their own voice and their guest(s) on SEPARATE TRACKS (I'm not referring to relying on a "double-ender" by a platform like Squadcast...we want to do OUR OWN BACKUP RECORDING on SEPARATE TRACKS). Can we do it, and if so, HOW?
why is the atr-2100 a RIP? I have an atr-2100x. Is there something bad with it? I got it because of Buzzsrpout's recomendation.
He was referring to the original ATR2100. It regularly sold for about $69 (I paid $60 for mine). I think the new one is $100 or more? Nothing wrong with it, but no longer the great value that made the ATR2100 so popular. Samson has a knock off that seems to work well for a lot less.

Does Squadcast record video interviews? The FAQ on their website says conflicting information.

I was never able to get Zencastr to work. Just got nothing but errors and issues. Does it work better on Mac?

I have had trouble using a microphone with zoom when interviewing someone remotely. When my microphone is connected, it mutes the other person. Anyone else have that problem?
Are you recording with headphones? I realized with my co-host that when I wasn't wearing headphones it would oddly cut off the other person if they interjected or laughed. When using headphones, it doesn't seem to do that.
What about zencastr?
I'm using Zencastr for a while with good results.
@ its only downside I think is that you cannot see your guest from a video. I will ve using zoom as voip for that but I am not sure if that will have an effect on the sound

Hey there! Usually, Zoom saves files in M4A format for audio, MP4 format for video+audio, and a TXT file for the transcript. But, if you want to save the Zoom meeting without audio, try muting the audio on your device while recording.

Headphones will do but if they don't have headphones, a pair of earbuds will work; just encourage them to not rely on their computer's built-in microphone.
