Just for completition, the shield was meant to protect the crew from the blast of his own gun, so 5 mm was enough
I bet the crew would've removed the shield to use as a field frying pan/grill hybrid cuz they rather die from their own gun blast and not get sent home with the driver's jigsaw puzzle body stuck in their uniform.

@@genericpersonx333 by all means, it's performance far out weighs my own ability to reach a piece of metal when that block of steel is shooting about 150mms of solid shit straight in my face...
but the shit they mounted it on kinda demoralizes the effectiveness of such guns. like please, I'm pretty sure they would've been fine with a gun mounted straight onto the chasis with elevation control only just so they could add more armor to the gun shield from the weight they would've saved from the traverse system. heck, remove the ability to aim enitrely and rely on the driver's epic drifting skills to give a large enough window of time to time your shots in the perfect places as the whole thing rocks from all the turns and aceleration it's making.
traverse aiming is not accurate or precise enough. The S-tank had two engines iirc which allowed for finer turns but an extra engine is more weight than removing the gun traverse system

@@chudthug because on arcade the tanks have their location known almost all the time, that makes its flanking tactics worse. Not impossible but extremly harder. To add to this the enemy can spawn aircraft and as your crew doesnt have any protection from above it is very easy to kill.

The more I watch Phly's vids, the more I get the impression there is such a thing as too much Warthunder ...it can drive you insane! Even then, still way more healthy than one game of Fortnite...( i.m.o.)

Most, if not all RPG/Rocket launchers fired by hand are recoiless
@@ket451 they do because of the force of the thrust from the rocket it leaves when launched. It also depends on how well you're clamping down to it and the size and amount of thrust in the projectile. Soldiers are trained on how to handle these properly, like proper hold, checking back blast area, not firing in a compressed space, etc. like back in my day. Recoiless rifles however, are those that don't well...recoil

@@ket451 the recoil isn't that much of a gun since the properties of both are different in many ways. It's a rocket, it has its own thrust, unlike a bullet/shell that relies on another property like powder in order to project itself forward. im not sure if "recoil" is the right term for it so you're technically right.

Hanz ‘tos normal. There’s no hull to contain the hit sound on the gunners forehead. There fore u hear it as the gunner hears it, exactly how he hears it. It all makes sense.( I can’t bullshit anymore than this)

I mean the gunner lituraly onely turns the weight of the gun and the gunshield and it turns slower than some 3 man hand turned tank turrets.

Just got this tank recently and I've found that with its speed, weight, and recoil it is one of the best guns to have perched on an elevated peak. You can nearly mountain climb, and each shot recoils you back into safety. Very phun
Crew encased into a tight, metal coffin, penetrated by a shell? Nahhhh, maybe you'll get a commander, a loader...... Maybe. Or just a tiny scratch.
Big tank, with space enough to bring in the couch from the living room, a TV and maybe a tea table? Yeah, your driver is dead, your commander, your gunner, the gun is good-bye, forget that engine it's not working anymore and ohhh..... Your entire family from miles away? They're dead too from that shot!!!!

I've played the M56 a lot. You really have to work hard with it, often retreating and repositioning after each shot you take. But it can be rewarding. Don't expect to feel in control very often, as there's little you can do if aircraft start attacking you or if you find yourself being stalked by RU-251s, SPAA or similar.

I love hitting a T62 in the side at point blank with M56 HEATFS and going clean through hitting nothing
the reason the crew disappear is because once they die, they are thrown off the tank for better power to weight ratio, when you replenish a crew member, you get the closest farmer
You know the gun shields is a joke when the bullet proof glass the driver looks out of is thicker then the actual gun shield
Last Defence bullet proof glass is always thicker then metal armor
Does have a really good rock shield for those heavy traffic days on dirt roads.

I used to sit on an M56 Scorpion when I was a kid. Whenever Grandpa took me to the "Museum of Life and Science" I just had to sit in the M56 and climb on the F11F Tiger.
Yeah, that gun shield was thin. I think it was made to protect the crew from shrapnel. Or maybe just the muzzle blast of their own gun.

Hi PhlyDaily i don't know how long i play the game and maybe there where times where it was diffrent but crew members disappear then when they die and they are replaced by another crew member then the dead crew member disappers and the seat of the crew member that took the seat of the dead one is empty. If the crew member that died was not necessary for making the movement of the tank or the firing and reloding of the gun (such as the radio operator) then the "sleeping" body stays there and chills his "life".
I swear Gaijin listens to Phly... 12:55. 2 years later we can extinguish teammates :)
The Gunshield wasn't for Small arms protection - It's a muzzle blast deflector
The Barrel has a muzzle brake that brings a lot of gasses back to counter recoil, exposed crew wouldn't like
