For your final review, can you please test EOTF tracking in each mode with window sizes larger than 10%? TFTCentral showed all the QD-OLED monitors are dimmer on 25%-50% sized windows when you run them in Peak 1000 mode vs HDR400 TrueBlack modes. From your description it sounds like Asus might be the first to address this issue but would be nice to see it confirmed with full EOTF measurements. Also please test for HDR black crush as some of these monitors seem to crush everything between gray levels 65-80 or near black 2%.
I can confirm this issue is mostly solved. I was the first to bring up the Peak1000 problems and they are very easy to spot. ASUS’s 1000 mode is only around 10% dimmer in large windows.

I took a brand new microfiber cloth with distilled water to try and remove a fingerprint smudge and it resulted in some very very small micro scratches. Seems like this is a known common issue with glossy panels from Samsungs 3rd gen lineup of QD-OLEDS. I guess because of the coating. It’s not a dealbreaker by any means. Can only see the hairline scratches if you put your nose to the display and shine a flashlight on it, but still my OCD is annoyed by it lol
Currently, the only way to update the firmware is by running a windows program, apparently they had some people brick their units when they released the first beta update which could be applied via USB pendrive so that's probably why they scrapped that
Those who struggling about the best HDR settings: Windows HDR calibration: 0, 800, 260 Why 800 and not 1000 - it helps to mitigate clipping (over-brighten the details) Monitor: Console HD + boost Game: Lower in-game brightness (paper-white) settings. For example in Alan Wake I lower it from 200 nits to 140 nits OR Just use Gaming HDR, if you ok with raised blacks and greys. All depends on the game you play. If the game is mostly dark scenes Gaming HDR and Cinema HDR are not for me as it fills like some kind filter is enabled.
Just had my PG32UCDM for only 2 weeks and the HUD of Dead by Daylight already burned in. Also had it only on 30 brightness and moved around the HUD with the scaling for even wear. Only 40-45 hours playtime, other 60-70 hours in between varied content. Did not expect it to happen this early. Fortunately still can return it for a refund.
Still went with a 27inch 1440p OLED and holy shit its so good (fo27q3). 27inch is a perfect blend for competitive shooters, singleplayer games and watching movies. Its perfect
But they don't have DP 2.1 so you would be stuck with DSC even if you buy a 5090 or a 6090 in the future and stay with your monitor. Most people will not quickly swap their $1200 monitor so they will stick with their purchase begrudgingly.
If DP 1.4 with DSC is "visually lossless" (to the vast majority of ppl) what benefit would DP 2.1 provide? It seems you can game now at 4k 240hz with DP 1.4 and be happy, or you can wait for DP 2.1 and see no measurable difference in image quality...
Check out the new Gigabyte MO34WQC2. If its like the 32" with no surprises, then it bests the DWF by 75hz at 10 bit with no DSC (HDMI 2.1). You could also critique it with it not having HDR Console mode like in this Asus' latest firmware. What I personally like is no more need for a monitor arm, the stand provides several more inches of height.
I know some people swear by glossy screens, but it's true that if you're not playing in a dark room, it's really unplayable... By the way, this ASUS is currently up against the LG 480Hz, which is a W-OLED with virtually the same screen quality, and which has a matte screen.
I prefer the Gigabyte FO32U2P with 2.1 Displayportport feature giving me in future not several seconds alt+tab times due to DSC.. And I love that you can use higher than low APL Stabilize on the gigabyte model in SDR. That makes the color pop out in SDR content as well!
@@MrEmiroglu53 HDMI 2.1 cant do 4k 240hz, because it doesnt even support it. So DP2.1 vs HDMI 2.1 would be by the refreshrate alone very much yes an observable difference.
If you want to brighter monitor you're going to have to wait for LG's dual layer OLED😮 I think it's coming out the end of this year or the beginning of next😅
As someone that use to game on a Sony XBR 930e, I think Im good with the brightness of these monitors. Them blue and purple dots I saw floating in the air, after gaming on it was the devils work. lol
I just got this monitor to recomplete my full Asus ROG setup. I love it but my biggest complaint is that it doesn't have DP 2.1 for future proofing. DSC seems lossless but I can feel you lose some snappiness with it. The glossiness is perfect to me comparing to LG TVs. On LGs TVs the panel coating isn't completely flat/smooth. Looks like a wave effect. The PG32UCDM doesn't have that. On the other side , LG TVs have better blacks. Also you can use this monitor at 1080p and 240hz which is nice for competitive games.
How do you lose snapiness? DSC doesnt increase latency in significant way. And how would you even know if you dont have another same 4k240hz qd oled with dp 2.1 to compare against? You just convinced yourself that it is a problem when it is not. Only reason to want dp 2.1 is dldsr which really isnt needed at 4k.
@@matejnemec3022 Maybe it's not DSC but the overall bandwidth. On the 27 inch model from LG you had DP 1.4 and HDMI 2.1. HDMI felt snappier due to higher bandwidth I assume.
I could be off the mark, but it seems a bit pointless? What GPU can play games 4k 240hz? The tests I have seen for the 4090 cant get anywhere near 240hz. *The only example I can find is PUBG (7 years old), which you can play at 4k and get 220hz.
It was already the best gaming monitor of 2024 in my opinion as its SDR performance and versatility made it the best I’ve ever tested. Two sRGB modes targeting a flat 2.2 gamma in Racing-sRGB and sRGB Cal targeting sRGB gamma all while maintaining excellent color accuracy and the ability to change color temperature and gamma if desired in Racing-sRGB. If you leave uniform brightness off you can game using Racing-sRGB and contend with ABL but hit almost 300 nits in game which is immediately noticeable going between it and sRGB Cal which disables uniform brightness. Then you can simply switch to DCI-P3 or Wide Gamut from Racing mode and still get 6500K with increased color gamut coverage. Now with this HDR update it’s hands down the best money can buy in 2024.
@@andrewmorris3479 I’ve got an s89c so no fomo here. The 27gr95qe still looks great in low apl scenes. It’s only higher apl scenes it struggles with compared to my brighter displays, and the pg32ucdm would do worse in those scenes (only ~400 nits 10% window) so hard pass.
@@Keivz I’ve owned both and let me tell you the PG32UCDM is SO much brighter in SDR and HDR it’s not even close. It’s hitting close to 300 nits in SDR and HDR for an average APL for video games. @@andrewmorris3479 I am 100% hdr so I can’t speak to sdr stats. But the hdr numbers speak for themselves. It’s not a dealbreaker by any means. Can only see the hairline scratches if you put your nose to the display and shine a flashlight on it, but still my OCD is annoyed by it lol
One question, can you update the monitor on its own, without needing to connect it to the PC??
Currently, the only way to update the firmware is by running a windows program, apparently they had some people brick their units when they released the first beta update which could be applied via USB pendrive so that's probably why they scrapped that
@vermis but this monitor does not have wifi even for updates?? You're telling me that a monitor worth 1500€ has no wifi to update it, WTF!!
Gigabyte update when?
Samsung g80sd is not better?
Really want to get this one but it's 2400$ where I live, I'll have to stick to my non HDR IPS unfortunately, nice review as always !
What about the alienware? Here in UK its the cheapest out of all the 4k qd oleds.
@@MA-jz4yc not available, the only other 4k oled that's available here is the gigabyte one with dp2.1 and it's 2800$ lol
I have the alienware dwf ultrawide qd-oled monitor. it's amazing on the MB107 firmware update and it's like $777 too
Those who struggling about the best HDR settings:
Windows HDR calibration: 0, 800, 260
Why 800 and not 1000 - it helps to mitigate clipping (over-brighten the details)
Monitor: Console HD + boost
Game: Lower in-game brightness (paper-white) settings. For example in Alan Wake I lower it from 200 nits to 140 nits
OR
Just use Gaming HDR, if you ok with raised blacks and greys.
All depends on the game you play. If the game is mostly dark scenes Gaming HDR and Cinema HDR are not for me as it fills like some kind filter is enabled.
Got the Asus XG27AQDMG Monitor and trust me its the best Oled experience you can get with a native glossy panel!
Alienware is better and the warranty isn’t a chocolate fire guard!
I hope Dell does the same thing on the AW3225QF
I bought the LG 39 ultrawide
I just hooked up my PC to our new 4k lg c3 65 inch and OMG I now really want a 32 inch oled gaming monitor. :)
Then one on sale from woot? Just bought it, arrives the 15th of July
Its perfect
Whats the video playing at 1:06 ? @thedisplayguy
Just updated the FW.. tested with Netflix Bridgerton…Dolby Vision colour looks slightly less punchy than HDR10
i just want a glossy lg 45 with the 800r cruve and hihger pixel density oled
Best monitor I have ever used, hands down, though I hate the reflection coming off of this in my room, curtains closed as much as possible.
Is it glossy? Semi glossy or matte?
@@CK-hp2tv i would consider this glossy.
I pre ordered the a Gigabyte FO32U2P, hopefully that model improves with firmware updates as well!
Sadly the F032U2/P PQ tracking (HDR brightness accuracy) is very off. While now the PG32UCDM's PQ tracking in the latest firmware is almost perfect.
you'll never see difference from dp2.1 vs hdmi 2.1 gimmick
@@MrEmiroglu53 HDMI 2.1 cant do 4k 240hz, because it doesnt even support it.
So DP2.1 vs HDMI 2.1 would be by the refreshrate alone very much yes an observable difference.
@@De-M-oN no you cannot. dsc is perfectly does that... you don't need dp2.1. yes it doesn't need dsc but this isn't mean you have to worry about dsc.

If you want to brighter monitor you're going to have to wait for LG's dual layer OLED😮 I think it's coming out the end of this year or the beginning of next😅
Source?
@@tertozer3543I’m pretty sure he is talking about a dual layer OLED for laptops and mobiles only.
LG TV’s have better black levels ONLY with higher levels of ambient light. Both technology’s have a black level of 0 nits in a pitch dark room.
@@andrewmorris3479 Yes, I didn't state it correctly. Was referring to the coating when light shines on it.

I could be off the mark, but it seems a bit pointless? What GPU can play games 4k 240hz? The tests I have seen for the 4090 cant get anywhere near 240hz.
*The only example I can find is PUBG (7 years old), which you can play at 4k and get 220hz.
I still am going to get aw3225qf
This monitor has better 27 inch and 24 inch support then lg dual mode monitor but refresh rate stays the same across 27 inch and 24 inch mode.
Classic /u/Jetcat11 😂

@@vermis 😂
I just don't feel like the price premium is worth it in this case when the msi monitor is so much cheaper.
I’m still on my 27gr95qe. It gets 660 nits 10% window brightness-I feel validated 😂
You’re missing out. I had the 27GR95QE for a year and this monitor absolutely blows it out of the water!
That’s 100 nits brighter and that’s not counting lower APL games in SDR where you can hit north of 300 nits with various highlights.
@@andrewmorris3479 I am 100% hdr so I can’t speak to sdr stats. But the hdr numbers speak for themselves. Only in low apl content do these qd oleds have an advantage but 600-700 nits in low apl content looks great regardless. 400 nits 10% doesn’t cut it. Heck, 660 nits isn’t really enough either but it’s still better obviously (s89c does 1100+ nits in a 10% window).
@@Keivz Your 27GR95QE does 140 nits with a 100% window though in HDR so ABL is much more distracting. I’m telling you it’s night and day.

ASUS ROG is killing it this year 😍
Hoping this update comes to the Alienware 3225qf 🤞🤞. They really need to sort these qd-oleds out. If a razor thin 65 inch TV can reach 1k nits on a 10 percent window there is no reason why a 32 inch monitor a quarter of the size of the TV can't.. In fact they should be pushing the brightness even higher.
Look up TFTCentral’s article how to boost HDR brightness using a Dolby Vision hack for the AW3225QF.
Google the word energy density and what’s more difficult to cool, high density or low
