She lived almost completely cut off of supermarkets and the likes, unless she went to the butcher or the fishmarket to buy local goods she couldn't grow or keep in her garden. Remember that the order of the 3 R's is important:
    Reduce
    Reuse
    Recycle
Do what you can to cut back. Really assess what you need to sustain (and be good mentally), and trim out the rest. Then, really maximize the things you've got. Reuse what you can or try to get it into the hands of those who could use them. Then, recycle what's left.

Thanks for addressing this very important topic! Many soil scientists, myself included, believe we turned the corner in 2020 - the year the mass of man-made structures outweighed the biomass on the planet. Large scale soil remediation has become critical to feeding future generations. IMO, what needs to be done is much too important to be left to politicians. Therefore it's up to you, me and everyone watching this vid. Keep up the great job and spreading of the word!

I would absolutely love to see that! I'm personally growing pineapples too. I've only had one fruit ever, but from one storebought pineapple I now have 4 healthy plants! I've shared some pictures of my first home-grown pineapple on Marks forum Self Sufficient Culture :D www.selfsufficientculture.com/

I had to make a significant change to my compost bin this year. For some time I would have used cardboard and paper and layered that as 'brown'. However I was getting lots of random plastic. Turned out, the glue from boxes / envelopes appears as rubbery string, some 'food' carboard boxes have a hidden inner plastic membrane and as for printed paper / newspaper / printing on cardboard etc, the print is essentially plastic (toner), so microplastics.
Only pure cardboard now goes in the compost, the rest of it goes off to the council's recycling.

A lot of paper is treated with some form of wet strengthening agent, in many cases also known as plastic, mixed directly into the material. This is why some coffee filters don't compost well. There are also a bunch of other chemicals used in paper for a wide variety of purposes like for example fire retardation. Sadly your "pure cardboard" might be less pure than you think.

I also had this issue in my worm farm - little squares of plastic! Turns out the shredded paper I was getting from the office had occasional glossy pages and labels. The worms would eat the paper part, leaving the clear plastic layer behind. I took solace in that at least the paper part was recycled 😅
