Caught you guys driving on the Gurgaon Jaipur highway the other day. I was in the opposite lane and the car was so eye catchy, it deserved a second glance 👍
Volvo is a wonderful company. They just don't make great cars but also make eco-concious ones. I have a V40CC and looking forward to upgrade to the XC40 Recharge in 3 years down the line. Hopefully by that time, there would be better battery charging infra for long rides as well as much better mileage range of this car. Commendable work by Autocar team, as always. I always look for your reviews first.
Great Car. However, IMHO electric mobility should focus more on middle class preferred segment as well as commercial vehicles. Luxury cars are not that many on the road. So replacing them with electric will not result in meeting objectives of electric transportation of future
@@amaljoe367 also it's safe for manufacturer to experiment on rich customers for whom this car wont be the primary usage car. Strategy won't work on middle class who can afford only 1 car i feel
The two of you coordinated so well. The whole drive was so enjoyable & it all finished off like a breeze. Hope you guys at Autocar come out with more such reviews. Hormazd are you listening ?
Well, what a lovely EV SUV it is! I did hear from the dealers that this is going be priced around 55-60L mark so Gavin's guess is fairly accurate. While Volvo's move is appreciated, how I wish they bring some plug in hybrid vehicles that would make the most sense for our conditions giving us the best of both worlds - Petrol + EV, but I really doubt they would do that as they are globally shifting towards EVs. Nevertheless its a Volvo and I personally still have a good few years to fully extract my V40 CC before making any moves to EV and I hope EVs get even better for a solid consideration then.
They do have plug-in hybrid. I am driving an XC60 plug-in hybrid in USA, which is pretty solid. Not sure if they target india for plug-in hybrid. Full electric I get around 20 miles and normal hybrid around 24 miles per gallon.
Now this is a beast. 410 hp in around 50 lakhs. I am definitely buying it. Damn good price. Price as equivalent as in Dubai or US or Australia. 0-60 in 4.5 sec. Not even cops can catch you. No need of NOS!!!!!!!
And the 'luxury' part of this small compact SUV with a cramped rear is? It is a Rs.70L+ enthusiast's car at best. A gently used GLA AMG will cost 50-60% of that. The difference in running costs will take 2 lifetimes to account for the difference in depreciation. You'd get similar thrills minus the range anxiety.
@@adityanrvarier7406 StraightPipes is good too. Love the Yuri and Jakub combo and they delve into all sorts of details all the while making it casual for the audience.
interesting that such a large battery too gives only ~ 300 km range. There should a mode one motor switches off to give an extended range, for the most part most people would expect 500 km + range when shelling out 55-60 lakhs for an EV. I have driven the Nexon EV max and to be honest I felt 140-150 HP was good enough provided EVs have access to all power and torque from the start itself. This car - Great for enthusiasts, but not utilitarian I suppose!
The iX 40e (50e not coming to India) and the XC 40 Recharge are simply superb! My picks out of the lot. The Model X seems like history, even though it's a fantastic product. Waiting for another all elec SUV shootout with an iX40e, XC40E, E-Tron, EQC and the i-Pace! Beautiful inside out. Volvo as always! Safety is brilliant. I personally find Volvo cars very enigmatic and full of refinement! Kudos Volvo. 🇸🇪 P.S: Porsche is developing an electric Macan on a new chassis, set to hit the markets by '24.
Frankly speaking if the same version in petrol is costing 43L on road then this should be very well below 43L owing to the climate friendly car, govt. should intervene and generously put subsidy and keep the cost of this new EV very well below the cost of petrol version. if it can be below 40L then it will be a game changer move. Believe me that only cost of EV below its petrol or diesel version can bring success to this climate save movement. As there are still mny many issues related to EVs. few of them are :- 1) Range Anxiety 2) Not Much Charging Stations. 3) Too Much Charging Time. 4) Battery Life & Replacement Cost Rumored To Be Too High. It surely is too high tough. 5) Electrical Parts Failure and their cost. (Am talking about parts related to drive and control mechanism of electric motor and motor itself)
Should price it similar to regular cars for the shift in market to happen.. Pushing it higher would only make it a me too product.. That's exclusive for a select few...
usually if you win a lottery and buy a performance-luxury car you won't be able to afford fuel prices... but for electric cars all provide same efficiency 😂
Affordable SUV from premium brand means 50 lacs. I believe India has third largest billionaire in the world so now 50 lacs price is considered as affordable price :)
To really start the electric car revolution i think we need to standardize batteries used in upcoming cars for hassle free battery swapping as we do with AAA batteries in our remotes and keyboards
Nice review Renuka and Daryll! Pls do these kind of reviews more and more!! Now regarding this offering by the Swedish Mfr. can we have a more realistic desi roads based drive also please? Would the reduced ground clearance be a hindrance around potholes and self defeating as it calls itself an SUV? All said I'd be happy to shell 45-50L max for this, if I decide to.
ICEs pollute cities and cannot be controlled. There is scope of controlling pollution at source that is battery manfacturing plant with advancements in future. That is why it is being pushed and is an upgrade over ICE
If VOLVO really wants 80% sales from EV in India, they they need to price this XC40 RECHARGE under 50lakhs… currently only EV SCOOTERS are 100% practical in India if you see the overall pricing difference thanks to few state subsidies… EV cars are not practical yet considering the prices vs the segment of combustion cars within the same price… Why would someone not buy a large Fortuner or an entry level luxury SUV around the budget of 50-60 lakhs?? So EV makers needs to come up with aggressive pricing if they wanna deal in large numbers for a price n prestige sensitive market in India…!!
Not a great effort by Volvo. A lot not included and falling farther behind the competition: range!! range! decent second row seat room!! better technology options! Oh, did I mention range! and second row seat comfort …. Even the new Polestar 2 is rated better, and $10K less. Too bad, missed opportunity.
The problems with these cars r they r too expensive... Why r they expensive just becoz of luxury inner cabins? Thats a joke actually.. They don't even provide engine.. They r batteries packed cars.. And they have to be cheap for attracting buyers...
The problem is that its an ev from volvo... Wait for the time when regular budget focused brands like maruti, hyundai etc come to play.... Be it xc40 recharge, jag ipace, audi etron, etc all comes under luxury tagline... Actually mgzsev, upcomning hyundai kona, etc comes to more affordable evs in town....
Great to see you both reviewing the same car! Fantastic review.....

Gavin’s pricing estimate looks to be close enough. Lets see once its declared. 😊
Why the camera and video quality looks so good suddenly I thought I am in there with them.. 🔥
My two favorite car reviewers 😁
Good review Thank you both. In general electric cars are costly despite no metal engines. It's only batteries and motor cost you more?
Let's go head to head with ZS EV and XC40 Recharge
Sort of Apples to Oranges as they are from different segments and league altogether but hey a duel never hurts!

Great review as usual. Renuka mam's expression at 0.40 is just priceless. As if a new driver has just got her driving licence and is raring to go. 😄
Very good review #Autocar . Absolutely stunting looks. More than enough power. #VolvoXC40Recharge
I'm with Gavin...
Around 60 Lakh rupees.
Must given the option to turn off rear motor when we don't need will definitely increase range above 500 km
fantastic video as always
This 2 guys we expect to review cars all time 😍😍
Those who agree gv a like👍
If it's under 50 on road
It'll be amazing
You really live in a dreamworld. You cant expect a luxury vehicle below 50otr. The normal xc40 costs more . This will be a lot lot more
It shows 75lacs on road, so don't expect 50lac, which petrol costs ....
Where are you living? It’s an electric luxury car. It won’t be cheap.
Even fortuner costs 45 lakhs now.... 😑
Expect 65 lakhs on road
An electric luxury car needs a 1000 km range.
Like the Nio ET5 with its gargantuan but refined battery.
Loved this review!! You both make for a great review team for sure.
My favorite hosts! 😍🥰
Nice review.. Thanks for the very detailed video.my wild guess, the pricing should be around 55L.
good review, my guess is - it will be priced around 75 lakhs ex show room Delhi !

Expecting price to be around 60 - 70 lakhs ( It would be amazing if Volvo prices below 60L)
@autocar my idea would be to have 4 passengers, with luggage... that will give a real-time battery use.... considering if it'll be used by family..
Worth buying 👌🏾
Any Leads on the C Class W206 ?
When is it coming to india ?
Price is the main pulling back fact of these EVS. Looking forward to seeing TATA coming up soon with more affordable EVS
If Volvo launches this at 40 , I may buy one
Should price it similar to regular cars for the shift in market to happen..
Pushing it higher would only make it a me too product.. That's exclusive for a select few...
Does it really have wireless Apple car play? XC40 Recharge in Europe don’t have them yet, over the air update is awaited..
Seen you guys drive this car on NH48
Gr8. As usual
50 lacs...I will buy it definitely..
usually if you win a lottery and buy a performance-luxury car you won't be able to afford fuel prices... but for electric cars all provide same efficiency 😂
Is it available in India
Looks like Tata Nexon EV wants to chase volvo XC40 EV...at 4:07
You guys were near my house I couldn’t even meet you both 😭
How is the range mam..
Affordable SUV from premium brand means 50 lacs. I believe India has third largest billionaire in the world so now 50 lacs price is considered as affordable price :)
I would reckon Rs. 40 lakh to be the starting price, considering Volvo's intent to make this an affordable luxury SUV.
To really start the electric car revolution i think we need to standardize batteries used in upcoming cars for hassle free battery swapping as we do with AAA batteries in our remotes and keyboards
Will Volvo offer charging at their dealerships?
near about 50L
I heard that volvo is pricing it at 75 lakhs….is it correct???

Lol.. petrol costs 45
Nice ev !
All good but i believe next gen Tata Nexon will be a better choice, price, safety and many more.
Where is time stamp?
EV
True. The technology still has a long way to go
ICEs pollute cities and cannot be controlled. There is scope of controlling pollution at source that is battery manfacturing plant with advancements in future. That is why it is being pushed and is an upgrade over ICE
That transmission tunnel is a joke.
0-100 in 4.9 seconds is quick for that segment
Lovely
Try electric vehicle drive on with headlight on. And make a review basically in night 👍
LED lights don't consume electricity as much
Should be around 50L
2M 👍👍

Awesome car by Volvo! My guesstimate ₹55 lakhs.
It’s price would be less than 60L …around 55-58L
Byd atto 3 seems way better.

Its around 70 lakh
Price in lakhs and crores range is small,i drive 900 km without aa halt anything in my range,or i should wait for Lucid air

No Ventilated Seats.
75 lakh
Nice car but too pricy I also assume 60 lakhs+
Jeep is good enough for me
Don’t like the shape of the car. There is no radiator and still the impression. We must grow out of the regular car shapes.
Still doesn’t workout personally !!!
A guy like me who drives 800-1000 kms in a day it’s just not yet practical enough .
50l ...on road🤔
my guess is 65 lakh as the price
Between 70 to 80 lakhs on road
wow i didnt like the colour grill and seats, and all of them are being changed
My guess Rs.58.99 lakh 🤞🏻
40L
India right 65 to 70
