This was about the most emotional swing in a tournament game I've ever attended. Back in the first round someone sitting next to us carried a 7-inch portable black & white TV into the arena so we could see live coverage of games from other sites. When Santa Clara downed Arizona out West, we watched and chanted, "Yes we can!" even though we had no allegiances in the game, we just wanted the upset. So when Cal took the huge lead on Duke in this one, we all were like, "YES WE CAN! YES WE CAN!" up in the Horizon top deck and rode the roller coaster through to the final buzzer.
This game brings back so many memories. I was 14 and I remember watching this game at home on tv. Growing up in Oakland I was fortunate enough to follow Jason Kidd's legendary high school career and then for him to stay home and go to Cal was a lot of fun. He was the consensus #1 player in the country coming out of high school and to see him beat Duke a year later as a freshman was not a surprise, he was a man amongst boys in high school. Bay Area legend.
This game is what makes this tournament the best post-season in sports. Even after 20 years, I still cry in seeing this game. It's my favorite tournament game of all-time and thank you for posting this.
I saw Jason play every Cal home game during his 2 years & have never seen a better college player in my life! I attended Cal games on a regular basis from 1966 - 2013 & he brought the Bears to a level they've never been - before or since. Was truly a man among boys!
Loved every second of this in Fresno as a Duke hater. The Fresno Bee's sports page had the headline, "Duke's 3-Peat Hopes KO'd by a Kidd". 20 years, I remember that plain as day.
@teddyboy3120Duke only won it in 91-92 at that time with the refs cheating like hell for them. Their NBA careers proved they were garbage then and now. 😆🏌️
This was a matchup between NBA Co-Rookie of the year in 1994-1995 vs. NBA Co-Rookie of the year in 1994-1995, Jason Kidd vs. Grant Hill. But, Jason Kidd, the freshman phenom ended Duke’s 2-year reign as NCAA National Champions.
This first half is a prime example of why u have to have watched to comprehend what actually happen. Someone who didnt see this game would look at a box score and see Hurley with 18 pts and Kidd with 5 in the 1st half and automatically believe Hurley outplayed kidd when we know Kidd was BY FAR the better and more impactful player in the half and it wasn't even close.
ONE OF MY FAV. basketball games in history LOVED THIS upset ;; i was at Jason kidds LAST high school game and his last COLLAGE game UPSET IN OGDEN UTAH by the GREEN BAY chesse heads in 1994 WHAT A PLAYER
Cbs still uses this musical theme (3rd vers past several years) and Kidd has been a coach recently in the nba. My the time that’s passed thru all these years.
The Kidd crossover on Hurley at 1:08 and the replay at 1:09 was unreal.Str8 service with phenomenal body control. The left handed finish. As a pro Kidd did a nasty crossover on my favorite player Clyde Drexler and blew by him for a left handed dunk.
My daughter was 1 watching this game with me... too young to understand what was going on but excited and shouting because I I was so into this game. The year before I had the chance to see Kidd play and it was always great to see home players perform like this in NCAA Tourney.
Kid was on the map in high school.A lot of people said he was so good in high school he should. go pro instead of going to college lots of scouts said he was a way better prospect then Bobby Hurly for pro basketball when he was in high school.
Played AAU with Jay (I was 15 he was 14) and he led our team to tourney wins back then. The only thing that he didn't get to do as a pro player was play for the Lakers as he wanted to play for them. Funny thing, he recruited my brother to play with him at St. Joes and he called him the next Magic as he threw several no look passes to Jay who didn't see them coming... We celebrated as my team smoked Iowa in the Alamo Bowl and thought he had a national championship too... Dirk was suppose to play at Cal with Jay in which that would have been something else.
I have this on VHS too but CBS back then interrupted games and went to live look ins of all other games so a chunk of its missing. You must have lived in North Carolina or California to get the whole game uncut? I like that these days every game is show on CBS TNT TBS and TRU tv so if you wanted to record a game you get the whole game.
i remember when Jason Kidd came to my house in the 80's when he was in the 5th grade, looking for my sister his classmate at St Pascal in Oakland and my brother ran him off. LOL He was really fast LOL
This game was electric. Bobby Hurley was sick in this game. Was weird to see them go out so early being that they made the final four for four years straight.
Cal was criminally underseeded in this tournament. I think because they took some bad early season losses while they were trying to gell the young guys with the vets, by midseason Cal was really rolling. This should have been a sweet 16 match-up.
Is 1993 Cal vs. LSU in the first round available? That was quite an amazing game too, especially with the trash talk prior to the game from LSU's coach
I remember watching Kidd play at Pauley Pavilion and thinking he was a man among boys. He was the most mature player I’ve seen play in person on the college level. Always seemed to be in control and calm.
Gratitude Ps I saw J Kidd's last high school game, he is the best player I ever seen. Pps Magic is favorite all time and J Kidd is the second best point guard , ever. Ppps Its Cool that Hill and Kidd earned co rookie of the year in the NBA
I just don't see what the big deal about Jason Kidd is as a player? To me he's just a solid point guard that makes solid passes and plays solid defense with a solid floor-game: solid.
You sure they would have defeated Kansas. They couldn't stop Cal from hitting threes, what makes you think they would have stop Adonis Jordan and Rex Walters?
Cal ruined the best-laid plans by the NCAA that year - they set this region up with Indiana, Kansas, Duke and Louisville, who had combined to win 5 of the previous 7 national titles, seeded from 1 to 4. They figured they'd get Indiana/Louisville (they did) and Duke/Kansas in the Sweet 16, then hoped for another Coach K/Bob Knight matchup in the Elite Eight. But Jason Kidd had other ideas.
It's too bad they had to play Kansas next, it was such a bad matchup for Cal because Kansas had that dominant interior, and Cal's bigs were pretty good, but not that good.
Funny how they gave Bobby Hurley all of this hype in college but Jason Kidd went on to have an illustrious NBA carrer. Fluke Blue Devil's players are nothing but hype. They go pro and become flops within 2-3 year's.
Jerod Haase the traitor!!! After Cal loses to Kansas..him and ol Roy had a conversation after the game. Haase surprise transfers to Kansas at the end of the season. Now he's Stanfords coach (a huge fail too lol).
atrocious? he scored 32 points... game wouldn't have even been close without hurley. rest of the team just sleepwalking through this loss, don't know what happened.
@@tapiolawender-snickers5943 Hurley was a fantastic scorer, but he was their offense really, and occasionally Collins shooting 3s or Hill inside. It kind of made Duke 1 dimensional. Anyway, it was a really fun game to watch.

Great memories…Kidd put Cal on the map that year & upsetting a former national champ squad w/Hill & Hurley was really an exciting game!✊🏾🤙🏾

I saw Jason Kidd play in the Capital Classic in Maryland after his senior year of high school. I have been a fan ever since.
This game is what makes this tournament the best post-season in sports. Even after 20 years, I still cry in seeing this game. It's my favorite tournament game of all-time and thank you for posting this.
Me too what a game.

Everyone was talking about this game at Cal the next day. It was a beautiful memory.
Loved every second of this in Fresno as a Duke hater. The Fresno Bee's sports page had the headline, "Duke's 3-Peat Hopes KO'd by a Kidd". 20 years, I remember that plain as day.

Thanks so much for uploading this!!! One of my favorite games from my childhood!
I believe unc vs cincy in the elite eight this year also an incredible game

The day the kidd became a Man💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿🏀🏀
Cbs still uses this musical theme (3rd vers past several years) and Kidd has been a coach recently in the nba. My the time that’s passed thru all these years.
Game that put Jason Kidd on the map nationally.
How ironic that Coach K talking to Jason Kidd after the game is over little to know he would coach Jason Kidd on TEAM USA in 2008 and 2012 lol.
The Kidd crossover on Hurley at 1:08 and the replay at 1:09 was unreal.Str8 service with phenomenal body control. The left handed finish. As a pro Kidd did a nasty crossover on my favorite player Clyde Drexler and blew by him for a left handed dunk.
JKidd. Best HS player I've ever seen play live, and I've seen a few.
Senior year of high school just hated Duke, watched it with my friends was a Saturday night. So many great memories.
My daughter was 1 watching this game with me... too young to understand what was going on but excited and shouting because I I was so into this game. The year before I had the chance to see Kidd play and it was always great to see home players perform like this in NCAA Tourney.
"They WON it, on the DUNK!" Best thing Billy Packer ever said.
I'm from Oakland. What a great time to be a Cal fan. Todd Bozeman took over as Coach . Great memories. We beat Duke 😎
I was a senior in high school when j kidd beat Grant Hill
my dreams have come true!!...thank you for up loading this game..hurley was a beast!
Kid was on the map in high school.A lot of people said he was so good in high school he should. go pro instead of going to college lots of scouts said he was a way better prospect then Bobby Hurly for pro basketball when he was in high school.
Apparently Jerry Tarkanian had a picture of high school Kidd in his office. Underneath he wrote: "The next Magic Johnson"
Played AAU with Jay (I was 15 he was 14) and he led our team to tourney wins back then. The only thing that he didn't get to do as a pro player was play for the Lakers as he wanted to play for them. I taped this game J Kidd's coming out party Bobby Hurley's last college game.
Kidd had better game (4-11, 11 points), but he had 14 assists. Lamont Murray was HUGE with 28 points.
i remember when Jason Kidd came to my house in the 80's when he was in the 5th grade, looking for my sister his classmate at St Pascal in Oakland and my brother ran him off. LOL He was really fast LOL

Crazy game of basketball. Awesome.
Kidd was on the Map from Game 1. everyone knew who he was.
Cal found out that when you play Duke your fan base increases exponentially.
1:23:42...when ya girl sends you "my roommates are gone...all night" in the text
Is 1993 Cal vs. LSU in the first round available? That was quite an amazing game too, especially with the trash talk prior to the game from LSU's coach
If my memory serves me right because I was 13 at the time, after Cal beat LSU, Dale Brown said Cal had no chance against Duke.
I remember watching Kidd play at Pauley Pavilion and thinking he was a man among boys. He was the most mature player I’ve seen play in person on the college level.
Always seemed to be in control and calm.
Gratitude

Ppps Its Cool that Hill and Kidd earned co rookie of the year in the NBA
Kidd versus Grant Hill two legends
Best CAL team since 1960. This was like a CHAMPIONSHIP to the Golden Bears.
1:24:12 even the cheerleaders couldn't hold it in LOL
I just don't see what the big deal about Jason Kidd is as a player? To me he's just a solid point guard that makes solid passes and plays solid defense with a solid floor-game: solid.
😱😱😱😱😱 OMG The Mendella effect is real. It didn't happen like this. Jason Kidd hit a buzzer beater against Duke this year, not LSU.
You sure they would have defeated Kansas. They couldn't stop Cal from hitting threes, what makes you think they would have stop Adonis Jordan and Rex Walters?
LMAO..Adonis Jordan and Rex Walters! HAHAHAHA!!! ADONIS JORDAN AND REX WALTERS!
hill + kidd played 4 multiple teams + pls tell me who u all feel was the most elite between the 88 mavs + 87 pistons
This was a great second round upset but not really Kidd versus Hurley it was the end of Dukes run it's hard to three peat
Damn near impossible in college sports like football and basketball.
Sorry I missed this game but I'm glad duke lost!
I remember watching this and thinking they could make a serious run don’t forget about Lamont Murray

Rosemont Horizon
I hated Duke so much that I didn't watch the game because I just assumed they would win. I was just happy Duke didn't win it that year.
With DUKE Losing to CALIFORNIA....THE DOORS WERE WIDE OPEN FOR KANSAS & NORTH CAROLINA TO RUN THE TABLES!
Jerod Haase the traitor!!! After Cal loses to Kansas..him and ol Roy had a conversation after the game. Haase surprise transfers to Kansas at the end of the season. Now he's Stanfords coach (a huge fail too lol).
These Clowns who think UCONN are going to repeat should watch this and they don't have Grant Hill and Bobby Hurley...
Loved Hurley’s game, but he was atrocious in this game.
atrocious? he scored 32 points... game wouldn't have even been close without hurley. rest of the team just sleepwalking through this loss, don't know what happened.

Hurley was a SCRAPPY SCHNAUZER.
The had to beat Duke and the refs that night
The annoyed aftermath mainly relax because postbox admittedly touch among a premium jeans. bashful, pricey downtown
